Free computer! :D Sad that it took a month to get a new one.

Huh, I never really thought anyone wouldn't like the motion controls, but hey, there you go. I learned something new today. For people that don't like the motion controls, Project Cafe might be a shift back in the "right" direction :D a bit away from motion control, that is.
Nice article. I agree with most of what you say, but I disagree with your final point. The Wii's motion controls are what make it so special, and I hope Nintendo continues to expand upon them, although I agree that Nintendo must stay away from gimmicks.
I also don't think Nintendo will innovate when it comes to graphics. I think they want to sell Project Cafe at a profit like they did with the Wii.
I really doubt Nintendo will push the graphics envelope much. Nintendo was very content to let Sony and Microsoft do that for the current generation, so why not the next? Nintendo made money on every Wii while Microsoft and Sony bled just to move their consoles. I think Nintendo will try to replicate that feat.
The Wii, while underpowered, could have been much better had Nintendo opened the platform up a bit and made indie games more of a priority. "Fluidity", for example, is one of my favorite games of all time. You're right, though, that the lack of horsepower (and other constraints) made many devs shy away from the Wii. I'm very interested to see what changes are made with the launch of the eShop.

The iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad are portable computers. Is that a bad thing? Do you discount PC gaming as well? I often find my PC to be much better than any console for gaming.
I agree that Apple is not a mover and shaker in the game industry. Apple is a disruptive innovator, and they cater to developers, not gamers. They let the developers cater to the gamers. If Nintendo allowed developers to publish Wii games for only $99 and also allowed th...
I find it interesting that Apple already has a dual-core machine in the Apple TV and that the iPad 2 can stream 1080p video while showing other content on its own screen. While I agree that Apple itself is not a game company, they sure have built some interesting hardware that can be used for not-too-shabby gaming, and developers have responded.
In my article, I do note that Apple does not own any properties like Mario or Metroid and as such is at a disadvantage to Nintendo. ...

The eShop can't come soon enough, and even then, Nintendo will probably screw it up. I sure hope they don't! C'mon, Nintendo! You can do it!
Demo reviews are not your niche. Buying "Total War: SHOGUN 2" is not mine. Playing and reviewing the demo is my niche, and I fully recognize that it is a (probably small) niche that not everyone fits into. But I thank those that approved this story.
Also thanks for your comments on the game. I highly recommend the demo, and consequently the full game, to any strategy game enthusiast. It looks like I'm not alone.
I do write the occasional review ...
I'm not a full-time gamer like I used to be, so I tend to be a little behind the curve. Got to put food on the table before playing/writing reviews. Besides, opinions don't have an expiration date. Even yours :-) Have you played the demo or the full game? If so, did you like it?
Chris,
Just because you did not enjoy the games does not make them overrated. You really should give your list a new title. Metroid Prime is a great game (IMO) and Halo, while not fantastic, was certainly fun. I really can't speak to the others.
While we now know what games you didn't like, perhaps a list of games you do like is in order?
You make some valid points, and I hope movements was being hyperbolic when saying "It's all truth all the time". IMO, the answer must lie somewhere in the middle. Usually does.
This sounds to me like a smart rule in general, but there are surely exceptions, as well.
Sure, I think that's a fair statement in general. That doesn't mean that reviews and reviewers working for large sites are necessarily bad, you just have to deal with the motives at work there. Then again, there are motives that can negatively affect the quality of content at small sites, as well. On the one hand, you have big-time reviewers that haven't paid for content or hardware and want to keep it that way, and then you have the smaller sites that desperately want traffic. <...
While the Wii is definitely on the decline, it had an epic run that was huge for Nintendo and for "casual" gaming. That being said, with the introduction of Kinect and Move, Nintendo needs to bring out something new to become relevant again, and I don't think the 3DS is going to cut it. Maybe we'll see something important at E3 (I hope!).
I haven't used HP in awhile, but I've been hearing that Dell has gotten worse and worse lately when it comes to quality. I'm very hesitant to use NVIDIA in the future, that's for sure.
