Because sales did drop, but the problem is that instead of following with what was already build up and make it better, they went and rebooted the franchise in a way that angered the already small fanbase. Even worse, when looking at the audience reaction they decided to be stubborn and ignore the fans, so then how do you expect to have good sales when you are giving your customers the middle finger?

I think we all should start thinking outside the box and realize that "Next Gen" gaming is not just gonna be about graphics, but mostly about WHAT CAN THE GAME DO. This means mechanics, processing speeds, more realistic or more complex situations that can be represented with far better results. Everyone seems to forget that, although PS3 and x360 had the best graphics and equipment, Nintendo still owned the market for a long time, and even if we try to say that it doesn't matter because the quality is low or whatever, for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo the most important thing is how much you sell, because if you don't sell then your product sucks no matter how good your graphics are or whatever. It does mean however that out of the 3 console companies, Nintendo has been the most successful one as a business by a large margin. We may not like it, but the truth is that Nintendo has managed to be the oldest and most successful videogame company of all times. That's also why both Sony and Microsoft worked so hard to get into the motion market, to follow Nintendo's strategy.

I think they brought this upon themselves. Making a sequel to that game after the first one selling so poorly, and having such a bad reputation, was a huge mistake. And from the results we can see that no matter how much money Activision poured on marketing for this game, it's bad reputation preceded it. Maybe they should have worked on something better with a new name, that could have saved them from this sad outcome.
I played it for like an hour or so and it sucked so bad that I could not bear playing it anymore. I'm not gonna waste more of my time playing a game that utterly fails to engage me. So to me I definitely didn't lose anything, but instead gained when switched to a game I actually enjoyed (Infamous) instead of forcing myself into playing that Prototype junk
