Actually Sony's own financial report states the last PS3 price cut as the primary reason for these losses. Sony isn't making a penny on the PS3 hardware - they continue to lose money on each one sold as they are still desperately buying market share at the point in the cycle that they're supposed to be flush with software royalties and modest hardware profits.
