That's a lot of business in terms of rentals. Think about 3 out of 10 top renting titles are Paramount (a number pulled from my ars), thats a 30% decrease in sales (HD sales) just because they dont rent a format.

it's a nice thought, but it's like saying that all car companies will one day become one, or all TV companies will eventually come down to one. It's not how any market works, including Video Games. You wouldn't want this happening, the technology limits would never be pushed, games wouldn't have to compete in terms of content and graphics. Sure it works fine in a perfect world, but whens the last time the burger you ordered at McDonalds looks like what you saw on TV.
this is horse $hit. There is no way, and if there was a possible way that only one console would be released, it would be horrible for games. As a gamer, I like choice. In games, AND in consoles.

there is a large number of gamers who don't access the Internet. Plenty of moms enjoy picking one up for her kid, and the kid is content. It may not be the most up to date news, but it serves it's purpose in plenty of eyes.
it's sad, but also more evidence of lack of management. They obviously had a foot in the door in terms of gaming news, but instead evolving with the industry, they chose the easier, less risky route. And in return? More to come...
