People need to stop comparing it to God of War, which isn't even out yet. It's stupid for Edge to even mention Kratos in there.
I wanted FF7 kind of RPG, where they had lots of towns and stuff.
The summary was pretty good imo.
It they had more space, then they could have put towns.
It's going to be 4 discs anyways but to avoid having more discs, they decided to cut out the towns part.
I am not sure if linearity was implemented so people won't have to constantly switch out discs, but I don't think that's a big issue as much as not having lots of towns and stuff.
That's what made FF7 so good, and it's epic proportion maps.

The story did seem enticing. Plus the demo also had some magic in there, so it felt complete.
It's just useless to judge God of War because it was pretty old version and didn't show off magic.
What God of War does exceed at is level design, and showing off its beautiful environments. They just need to tighten up the gameplay.
It runs better because obviously you don't own a ps3.

Like weapons, characters, and other things.
Almost all games incorporate some version of it, and I tend to think of leveling up, unlocking new stuff as a RPG element.
So yes, it makes a good game.

I would turn my backs on them if they somehow mess up the ps3 version by downsizing it.

They didn't dumb down anything, like I thought they would, so all the more better.
