Publishers do, most Devs aren't in the driver's seat in that regard.... Getting a one off payment for a subscription service can be ok if your game has been out for a while and you know what it's worth though, but putting your product on there on day one is a HUGE risk... Not to mention the NDA that prevents you from sharing any of your experiences with it, so other developers remain in the dark too
@darkzane Indie Devs don't take all that money though, their publisher takes between 20 and 50% and then sales tax and corporation tax are also deducted. Most indie games fail to sell above 1000 copies and Stardew Valley is a unicorn. Before it was released nobody would have had expectations of it being so popular.
Indie games that make over 1 million dollars for their developers are extremely rare, I would guess at less than 0.01%
I've worked on ...
Sadly if subscription services ever replace one off purchases then we'll see budgets for games drop drastically and gaming will become a homogenous borefest.
For indie Devs the problem is there's no transparency on what a good deal looks like for having your game on gamepass... If you worked 2 or 3 years making a game with a squirt small team would you accept 10k from MS?
How about 20k? How many sales will you lose (or possibly gain from three exposure)? What did similar devs with similar games get paid?
Nobody knows and therein lies the problem.
Are you a bot that's powered by down-votes?
After the last few years of MS conduct, I'm starting to think the Series S will be my last console from them and I've always owned all consoles
Having spent a year living in Japan working in the games industry I'm pretty sure Sega wouldn't entertain the thought for a second
... and that's ok
I have every intention of playing the game and I'm annoyed by the 30fps info. It's not RAGE but it's also not fake or exaggerated.
You're kinda just making stuff up
That's if Microsoft develop another console, with the S outselling the X and the push for gamepass it's possible they won't put out a traditional, state of the art games console.
Which would suck.
How can someone accidentally typing jelly beans get downvoted? More jellybeans!
Control is fantastic
While playing games
When someone defiantly states "This is the right choice" you know the opposite is true
That's an unnecessarily mean thing to say
Making me think I misjudged the demo
95%? I don't think so
I'm looking forward to Starfield but I'd be surprised if there's even 10 planets that are interesting so I'm not buying this 90% quote, although there could be quite a lot of recycled, randomly generated filler side quests I suppose
Blockbuster didn't buy those games at retail price though and you only got to keep the game for a week so you'd probably go and buy it if you liked it. Win win
