DirectX12 was finally unveiled at GDC this year and it definitely seems promising, especially after the Forza 5 demo. Of course, the PC will get all of the benefits from the new API, but some features are also on the way to the Xbox One. It releases in late 2015.
Obviously, this means that the Xbox One will be able to run more graphically intensive games while maintaining it's average resolution and frame-rates, to my knowledge at least. However, these sorts of software updates aren't necessarily- rare.
I'm in no way trying to downplay the Xbox One here, but some people need to keep their expectations in check. This isn't the second coming of teh cloud. This is a common practice for consoles.
As for how this will affect the performance gap between the PS4 and Xbox One... well, nothing will change really.
The PS4 will get it's own new API, probably a successor to Open GL 4.0. The features that it will contain are still to be seen, but it's a given that the PS4's performance will improve over time. I mean, DX12 is releasing in late 2015. You really expect Sony to be twiddling their thumbs on this for the next year and a half?
In terms of cold hard specs, it's already obvious that the PS4 is superior in terms of specifications. So performance boosts for both consoles won't really close the gap, create parity and it sure as hell won't allow the XBO to push ahead.
Not only will you have the new API's to look forward to, but you have your driver updates to think about. It's not a matter of secret sauce. Neither of these consoles have reached their full potentials and if you thought they have, you obviously weren't paying attention to the last 7 years. It's all about efficiency and tools. It's easy to max out hardware when using brute force.
Again, not downplaying, just stating the facts.
As some of you can probably imagine, Misterxmedia is on his way to having a field year with this information. Go check out his blog for a good chuckle.
Thanks for reading guys. If I left anything out, please let me know in the comments or through a PM.
Sony has kicked off the PlayStation Store "Days of Play" sale today, and this includes quite a number of AAA titles. Here's the full list.
Sony aims to release live service PlayStation games day & date on PC and PS5, but single-player games will have more "strategic approach."
How? I’m sorry but how when they literally port their games to the PC now after not even 2 years, it’s rumored GoW Ragnarok is next.
The best thing they could have done is focus on the generation before with PS3 / PS4 titles and when it got to the PS6 then start porting PS5 games so people will want to get the sequel on the new console
Now PC gamers just wait it out because they know it’s coming
"While Helldivers 2 was released day and date on both PS5 and PC, don’t expect single-player narrative-driven games to be released in the same boat by Sony anytime soon. - This was confirmed by PlayStation’s soon-to-be co-CEO Hermen Hulst in Sony’s business segment presentation"
There you have it. Won't be 'day and date' single player games on PC anytime soon or for the forseeable future. They understand single player games are Playstation's backbone.
I was told that Playstation was doing so bad on here and on X that Helldivers 2 was going to release on Xbox and Sony was going to start releasing all games on pc day and date with playstation. Why do people constantly lie on the internet!!!!!
That's a smart move because at the end of the day playstation is a hardware business and need to sell hardware folks
Sales numbers for game and consoles sales in the US for April 2024 are now available from Circana executive director and analyst Mat Piscatella, which again shows the PlayStation 5 sitting at the top of console sales charts, this time both in revenue and units sold.
Not bad. It's impressive that Xbox can beat Switch considering they have the most units out there. I believe Xbox led most months in revenue over PlayStation as well.
I think this is a sign of Xbox needing a major console update and solidification of the brand and it's goals. The recent news has killed them and it's showing.
The Switch is finally dying. I expect the PS5 to come out on top every month unless Nintendo has a huge release.
