Starz (Anchor Bay) Joins Blu-ray Exclusively

Starz Home Entertainment has announced that they will begin releasing titles exclusively for Blu-ray. Most people know Starz Home Entertainment by their former name, Anchor Bay, who own rights to over 600 movies and TV shows, including many horror classics like 'Evil Dead' and the 'Hellraiser' and 'Halloween' series.

If you've ever seen an older film on a Hi Def disc, it's not very impressive.
Hi Def movies are only as crisp as the original film, so don't expect much in the ways of increased video quality.
I recently watched the Blair Witch project, and I tried to stab myself in the heart when it began to play and I saw how average looking the video quality was.
You're better off just keeping the original DVD and letting your PS3 upscale it

About has much as the doom and gloom stories / posts about Sony being in "financial trouble", or the stories that Kuteragisan resigned recently, or the stories about....I think you get the idea.

Sony took a MASSIVE gamble with the PS3 and Blu-Ray. They knew it would cause some short-term problems, but were willing to risk almost everything.

The fact that Sony, as a gaming company, seems to have made the right choice and will be making money hand over fist for a long time because of it, makes it gaming news.

I know this is hard for you to accept, but you;re going to have to live with it.

I'd care except for the fact that most of those old (though brilliant) horror films were filmed in such poor quality film that they looked bad on VHS and the same on DVD so why do I want to watch them on Blu Ray and see all the artefacts and fuzz in high resolution.

Great films but HD will never enhance the experience of these films.

if you own an Xbox. After all the sales reports, lost exclusives, ect., if blu-ray had lost the format war as well, I would have started planning a funeral for my ps3. Don't get me wrong, R:FOM was fun the first few weeks. And I would give my left nut to start playing Lair, Warhawk, and MGS4 today. Xbox fans will down play this news because they're stuck with DVD (or HD-DVD lol) until Sony allows them the priviledge of even attaching an aesthetically displeasing add-on to their malconstructed device. I feel you... I would be pissed at Sony too if I owned an xbrick. So to everyone disregarding this as gaming news... for at least 3 million people, this is news is huge.

As many people here have said, Blu-ray is NOT owned by Sony. MS doesn't need permission to create a Blu-ray add on.

Further acceptance in blu-ray will justify sony's decision in implementing such a technology into the PS3...which in turn should justify a purchase...which in turn increases units sold...which in turn equates to more developer support...which equates to. Well you get the picture (no pun intended)

i'm growing tired of the numerous people that b*tch and moan about Blu Ray news that gets posted on this site.

THE PS3 HAS A BLU RAY PLAYER BUILT INTO THE MACHINE!!

as the owner of a PS3, and the owner of an HDTV, i am *ALWAYS curious about Blu Ray news.

before i got my TV, i could care less about purchasing movies in HD. that has changed significantly, of course.

anyone who bought the PS3 for just is game-playing functionality is

A.) doing a disservice to a feature-filled piece of technology.

and

B.) wasting their money. i mean, really, if all you wanted was a games console, get a 360 or a Wii. they both play games.

as for me, i'm a gamer, yes. always have been, and always will be, since i first picked up a controller back in 1985.

but i'm also a movie buff, and an adult, and in an big people world filled with things like, i dunno, car payments, bills, rent, a fiancee, how i manage my money is paramount.

I CAN'T AFFORD A $400 GAMING SYSTEM, AND A $1000 HD MOVIE PLAYER.

so, naturally, the convience that a $600 PS3, which plays games, and movies, and in high definition no less, is immeasurable.

by purchasing a PS3, i've saved myself, at the least $800.

i get to enjoy my *TWO loves(games and movies) for a fair price.

here's some interesting food for thought, about the PS3 and the oh so tired joke of "the PS3 has no games":

according to Metacritic, the PS3 has 45 games listed. out of that 45 games, 22 of them are rated 75 and up, and thus, probably worth your time, or, at the least, a rental.

by comparisson, the Wii has 63 games listed. out of that 63 games, 12 (yes *TWELVE) of them are rated 75 and up, and thus probably worth your time. 5 of those 12, are Nintendo games. god help you if you aren't a fan of Mario and Zelda. that leaves you with 7 games to choose from.

interesting, no?

(and to give full coverage, out of 200 X Box 360 games, 88 of them are rated 75 and up, and thus probably worth your time).

the PS3's problem is that the majority of it's games fall into the sports, racer, and shooter category, and not everyone loves those genres. but for those that do, there's enough there to tide you over until more titles hit this fall. not to mention the fact that the PS3 can do things like play HD movies, surf the net, stream data, and is backwards compatible with a healthy number of PS1 and PS2 games.

i bought my PS3 over the other consoles for reasons such as these.

don't hate on news items like this because you don't care for it. some of us actually *DO.
