PS3 takes top spot in T3 magazine's Hot 100, Apple's iPhone at No. 2 and Nintendo's Wii at No. 8. The Hot 100 represents the "must have kit every man should own."

T3 describe the PS3 as "Sony's super-console which towers above all other gadgets." They were impressed with its high definition graphics for games and its media features which would put you in "total control of your digital life."

On the iPhone they said that it was "set to do for mobiles what the iPod did for MP3 players" and on the Wii they liked the Wiimote, Wii Sports and the ability to design your own Mii characters.

-A dream of TVs-with-GPUs has been worked upon by Sony and nVIDIA and PS3 is the dream machine to hold up that idea for it is the machine with a stand alone, fixed and non-generic communicating processor(Cell). Now it is so safe and plug and play oriented that even when you have the first TV or a mobile phone having a Cell in your house...all these machines could be connected with PS3, empowering it, lending it threads of processed data.

-A much anticipated new EyeToy is approaching which will have an all new look at gaming(as speculated).

I was at my friend Chris's dorm, fooling around with the PS3 when he showed me Remote Play with the PSP. Alright, now this is one of those features that I was pretty skeptical about, but I quickly took that all back. While his roommates were doing Wii Golf on the TV I was watching Casino Royale and 300 (stored on the PS3 HDD) on his PSP. I could do Everything! Hell, even checked up on the videos he was downloading from the Playstation Store (which is quite easy to navigate I might add).

The only bummer though is that you can't play games through Remote Play, and I think the real reason is that Wi-Fi still isn't fast enough. It was responsive, but I could still see like 1/2 a second of lag. Hopefully with Playstation 4 (and PSP 2) they'll let us play our console games remotely with beefed up Wi-Fi technology.

I have to admit DJ mate, that's actually a pretty good idea!

Imagine being able to play your PS3 (or PS2/PS1) games using your PSP anywhere in the house. The PS3 could do all the processing, it would just take the final rendered screen, compress the image and send it to the PSP. The PSP could just be like a terminal "plugged in" to the PS3 "server".

If the Remote Play is already fast enough to allow you to stream movies then this shouldn't be a problem and would mean you could play ANY PlayStation game on your PSP! Of course, Sony like any other commercial company, need to make money so they'd rather us pay for and download our games sepcifically for the PSP no doubt.

yeah, it's called remote play. you can watch movies and listen to music on your psp that is streamed from your hdd. the ps3 has to be on though. so when they set it up so we can access the ps3 from anywhere, you have to put the ps3 in remote play mode before you leave your house. it still pretty cool though and i can't wait to use it in the office.

Since the TV...um....hell no. Think of the many home entertainment items that are currently in just about every household since the TV. Like the VCR, the DVD player. It this statement were true the sells figure would be comparable to those of the wii in units sold. I almost forgot, what about PONG, you know the video game console of all consoles. The machine that kicked it all off. The PS3 is NOT a new invention thus it can't be compared with the invention of the TV. Or did they mean since the invention of the Sony Brava?

I'm sorry to burst your bubble guys, but T3 have got every reason to declare the PS3 as being the best thing since sliced bread. Future Publishing, (the company behind T3) have just entered into partnership with Sony as printer of the Official PlayStation Magazine, and developer of the Blu-ray demo discs that will be on the front cover of every issue.

So to say that T3 now has a vested interest in promoting Sony's products is something of an understatement at best! Btw...the first playable Blu-ray disc comes with issue 7 of Official PlayStation Magazine, on sale in June.

This is SO true. Considering what you're getting, the PS3 is an unbelievable bargain, hell you can get stand alone, Blu-Ray players for nearly as much.

Put one PS3 under your TV and you can watch High Def movies at 1080p with High Def 7.1 surround, view your pictures, listen to your music, surf the web, play online games for free, have access to a 3D virtual online world, use Linux and of course play not only cutting edge games but thousands of PS1 and PS2 titles as well playing them using 7 controllers on one system!

Not only that, but it looks so sleek and expensive, it deserves to be under your brand new expensive TV. The 360 looks like cheap plastic and has a massive power supply following it around and sounds like a jumbo jet!

360 owners get a smaller hard disk, so much so that Micro$oft had to launch an "Elite" model just to please them. Hey Xbots, do you lot even get Wi-Fi as standard? Even the DS can afford to put it in.

With Linux turning it into a computer giving you the immense power of the Cell processor, and online radio stations recently announced for it, what else apart from a TV do you really need in the house?

Gears, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, Halo 3, Mass Effect, hell there's so many exclusive and multi-platform games out and coming out soon, I can't help but smile just thinking about them.

You can pay extra for your "multimedia" experience, with great deals and discounts on the 360 at the moment we're sitting here playing High Def games for less and have been doing so for longer with the advantage of a FAR more polished online gaming system.

If I want home entertainment I buy proper home cinema components, everyone knows how crap the DVD player was on the PS2. If I wanna surf the net, I'll use a computer thank you very much. How many of you PS3 owners are actually viewing this site from your console, huh?

I can understand what you're both saying and you "both" make valid points. I see it as this though, if you've got a High Definition TV then the PS3 is extremely good value for money.

As then you get the full benefit of having a Blu-Ray drive and from the reviews I've read it holds its own against stand alone players.

All the other extra features on the PS3 are great as well. But at the end of the day they are "bonus" features, it's the games that really matter as that's what most of us N4G readers would no doubt be using our consoles for.

Of course the PS3 is still in its early stages so it's a bit unfair to compare it directly to the 360 for example. The 360's been around for a year and it's had it's "second wave" of excellent games. When the years gone for the PS3 then we'll be able to see whether it stands up as a great games machine AND home entertainment device.

I have both consoles so I've already put my money where my mouth is and I'm sure/hope they'll BOTH do well. :)

Then I would have to say the ps3 definately in the top 100 must have products for men. But, with that said..... The price needs to come down a couple hundred for me to reccommend it as a "Gaming" platform. You can't call yourself a next gen gaming system and cost 200 more than the competition....yet not match the competition in regards to "Games".

Sony knew it was banking the fact that the ps3 couples as a Blu ray player. We will know if it pays off for them over the next few years. Right now, thats what I use my ps3 for. Watching blu ray movies. I play next gen games on my xbox 360. I also own the hd dvd add on with an extensive amount of hd dvd movies. I realize one of the formats will loose in the end....I just don't want to miss out in the meanwhile. I can afford to do so. I'm not banking on either one. It doesn't matter to me. I just want Great games and I want to watch all my movies in 1080p high definition.

The simple fact is, while the TV was something which revolutionized the world, the PS3 is just a next-gen console, (AT THE MOMENT) looking slightly unsuperior to the 360 (Although this will change once the big games start getting pushed - MGS4, Killzone 2, Heavenly Sword, etc).

My apologies, but there is no comparison between the how revolutionry the TV was, and how revolutionry the PS3 is. Just no comparison.

I HAVE played the Wii - it does not appeal to me in any way what-so-ever.
I am a sure hardcore gamer - I do not wish to feel like ive been dragging half ton dumb-bells for the whole day after a 2 hour session, GOD FORBID what I will feel after a marathon 8 hour session.

I would rather focus on the game im playing, not on the input type.
This is why I dislike the motion-sensing features on the SIXAXIS - I dont like to wave my hands about like a maniac; its off-putting. Im the type of player whose hands are stationary when he plays.
This is why, playing on the 360 controller or SIXAXIS (Minus the motion-sensing, which thankfully, is easily disabled in most games) is second nature to me.

Waving a stick at a screen, and seeing visual feedback on your TV is nothing revolutionry - this has been around for years (Not with a stick though).
And, mark my words, more and more Wii buyers will slowly discover this.

This does not mean the PS3 is better...merely important.

The basic TV will always be number one as it provides the essential visuals and audio - with quality always improving with both esp HDTV. However TV's entertainment value is limited by the various external inputs (broadcasting freqs, video recorders/players, cable, media centres, game consoles, PCs). It is reliant on these external inputs.

T3 is merely recognizing that the PS3 is essentially an All-in-One unit that provides most, if not all, of the required inputs. There's no need to buy a separate PC AND game console AND media center AND various software for each. It's all in one complete package. The pure gaming console is dead - the PC Console is the future.

Eventually TVs will have the All-in-One built into them(powerful CPU, Ram, HDD etc) so you won't have to buy separate units(eg, console, PC). But until then, the PS3 is one of the most important ENTERTAINMENT devices since the TV. It's now the new benchmark for PC Consoles.

Beware PC. This is the beginning of the rise of the PC Console(gaming, media centre, internet, productivity).
