Killzone 2 Hits 2 Million Sold

Killzone 2, one of the PS3's best exclusive titles has finally hit 2 million copies sold since it's release in late February this year.

Frankly the game deserves more sales cause it was really one of the best FPS I have played this gen.

Everything from graphics to 32 player polished multi-player was truly something that pushed boundaries. But there was really so much negative media as if people wanted it to fail or something. They took the new weighty controls as something bad and really ripped the thing to the point where even GG had to send in a high precision patch to suffice the outcry.... Seems floaty COD and Halo controls have spoilt a lot of people.

Anyways, it's good numbers for any game... Hopefully will sell more than 2.5-3 million in it's lifetime like Uncharted 1 did...

There is not a single game that feel like it does. The sense of weight is amazing, and I really feel like every other shooter should implement this. This whole jumping 15 feet in the air stuff needs to stop.

All Killzone 3 needs is better story telling, because Killzone 2 had a great story, but they didn't pend any time telling it or developing the characters.

Even with 140 million PS2 user base, it's rare to find a game sell over 4 or 5 million. Even some of their biggest franchises like GOW didn't reach 4 million for either game, I believe

Playstation users are just more diverse.

So it's a pretty cool accomplishment for GG with a substantially lower userbase

I can be critically as well as love it. My ony REAL complaint would be the lack of open air maps. Most maps were very close quarters, but I did love them, it just needs more variety.

Also, I feel like when your scoped you should have more Aim-Assist then when you are firing at the hip. I think this single issue is what confused alot of people. I don't think the "mainstream" could adapt and to a point I agree. If i'm scoped it should always be easy to hit a target. This will force people to scope and take shots rather then use the additional window of view you get from firing at the hip.

besides those 2 things, I thouroughly enjoyed it. Hell if they release any new patches or changes i'll be sucked back in. I've kinda been holding off playing it, because everytime i pick it up i'm on it for hours. lol. (Which i'm doing with Demon's Souls anyway lol)

Well, ND said that they hoped that U2 will sell 2.5 million. I guess 2.5 million copies would have made U2 pretty profitable. Now, I know KZ2 was made in 5 years and they did a fantastic job with this title. Hands down the BEST shooter this gen but I think they would have desired even better results. Anyway, I hope that the next killzone will be easier to make since now they have the infrastructure to improve even more (if that's possible as KZ2 will simply outstanding).

Maybe a year from now, they'd hit 2.5 - 3 million? I hope they do because again, GG did an amazing job with KZ2 and it is a shame that negative journalism and naive COD4 addict gamers were not ready to accept something different even though it was the BEST FPS made this gen! Ads are usually based on your web viewing. The website doesn't specifically choose what it wants to advertise, they just sign a contract with a advertiser, who provides all the ads. I think the only input you get is if you want SFW or NSFW advertisements (not 100% sure though).

Never comes up with an ODST advertisement for me, it's always LOTR online and I don't even play MMOs. Must be done by country or something.

40 hours just in single player.. I played about 2 hours a day , killing helghast is really satisfying because the AI is INCREDIBLY real.

Agree with you 100%, even with the title. The gunplay in KZ2 is really intense, the AI is spectacular and unparalleled. Other FPS can be fun or have imaginative puzzles, levels but I doubt there is one that beat KZ2 gunplay.

KZ2 sets the standard for both graphics and intensity in FPS, and the AI really makes the campaign shine. I've played through the SP campaign no less than 11 times and i still find it fun :D

Halo ODST sold 2 million, but none of those Halo games will ever be as good as killzone 2. It could be the worst halo game ever and it will still sell a lot. WHY? because of it's fan base. We all saw the commercial once or twice, but Sony could have done better, and they still could advertise now if they want to. Mass Effect came out when there were far fewer 360s sold than there were PS3s sold when KZ2 came out. Also, FPSs sell much better than RPGs. And Mass Effect was not hyped to be the greatest game of all time, greatest graphics of all time, Halo-killer that had a huge budget and a 5 year development cycle like KZ2 was. THAT is why KZ2 flopped so massively. It would be like a Halo game not selling millions in one day.

Okay, Halo lacks everything you mentioned but there's a reason it is so popular and sold well. Because the game delivers the enjoyable game experience wanted by millions of GAMERS.

The same can be said of Warhawk(MP only) but we don't have the same number of GAMERS willing to buy/play it on the Ps3.

So many Ps3 owners hate Halo but should be given credit for what it delivers overall - an enjoyable gaming experience.

Killzone did good and is the best shooter out there.Yes it may be too hardcore for alot of players but thats ok because there is always Halo and COD for those people. KZ2 is by no mean a slouch. It is good game as well. Good number...hopefully it is enough to get back some profit so they could make another one.

I hate to see good developers closed down because of sell.....like MAJESCO (Psychonaunt, Advent Rising, and best game of all time for me Phantom Dust......i'm still playing that game. SO addictive).

With all the sweet ass games PS3 has been pumping out its good to see KZ2 sell 2 mill. in less than a year. KZ2 was an awesome game and the way it ended makes it look like we are going back to Vecta to defend a major Helghan invasion . . . .

As for people playing sales. Go play a good game already. Or are you on PS3 KZ2 threads running your fanboy mouth because you have only had one exclusive (ODST) to play this year. The ignorance is flowing....they probly wish they were playing UC2, Demons Souls, R&C ACIT this fall. You talk about others game selling 2 mill. Left For Dead, Mass Effect etc. didn't have the budget or the hype that this game had. Don't pretend like 2 million is good for this game. What fails is that people are still comparing these games like they're on the same system, or at least multiplat'. MILLIONS difference in install base and rabid (judging by some of you) fanbase. Real even playing field there.

PS3 games have NEVER sold like Halo and Gears, even though critically they have performed better on Metacritic with higher rated exclusives. Check out the multiplat' sales for modern day classics like BioShock. PS3 sales (even with exclusive content not on the 360) were far less, only half a mil'. Darn thing was 360 GOTY at one point, yet KZ2 sold 4 TIMES AS MUCH as BioShock on PS3. Where are the articles on BioShock failing and KZ2 outselling a former 360 GOTY like 4-1? Perspective. Even COD4 numbers are double on the 360. Did Infinity Ward fail too?

For how much MORE the PS3 cost at the time KZ2 came out, what the install base was and what usually sells on the system, it sold good. Guys like Father Murder X will never get it. I swear, some of you have never played games before this gen'. You somehow get these ideas in your head that anything less than 10 million sales is a flop, yet don't question why the money made from those sales isn't even going into making the games better. Unless you like paying for the same maps twice (ODST)? THAT, to me, is a fail, no matter how good the sales are.

Don't fool yourselve. 2 Mllion copies for a FPS are very good.

There is no single FPS in this console-generation that sold OVER 3 Million copies except when it's called COD or Halo !

Even multiplattform games struggle to break the 3 million limmit.

Why Halo all the time? Why not look at every other FPS out there and their console sales? Why not Gamespot's best hero of all time, Gordon Freeman?

If sales equalled quality, then KZ2 is TWICE as good as Half Life 2 episode 1, episode 2, Portal and Team Fortress combined. Ie, The Orange Box.

Orange Box didn't even crack one million in sales on the 360. Not even a quarter mil' on PS3. Where are the "Half Life failed" posts? How can a sales failure like Gordon Freeman be winning competitions? HAZE, yes HAZE, outsold Orange Box on PS3 and almost matched Orange Box's sales on the 360. That's how little Half Life sells, yet it's still considered FPS gold. Don't tell me there's not a double standard going on here, especially the way some of you talk like you want Freeman's baby!

It took 8 months, but it finally sold 2 million. Maybe next time GG will stop trying to be different and make the controls more intuitive. The graphics were fantastic and the story was average, but the gameplay was awful. The hit detection in MP is horrendous and the class system w/ the symbols is retarded. Graphically, many games cannot come close. I hope GG listens to the fan base and makes improvements for the 3rd installment. I will be in line for that if they straighten up the control scheme. It's a system seller along with Uncharted 2.

TOO ALL PS3 FANBOYS:

Anyone that wants to compare these numbers to Mass Effect is a douche bag looking for justification on a poor selling game that cost 21 million to make in 5 years of development. Mass Effect was new IP and sold 2 million in 2 years, how well did Uncharted sell as new IP? Look at the numbers for UC2 compared to the first. This is KILLZONE 2 not 1. You want a fair assessment, try comparing Mass Effect 2 numbers and see who reaches 2 million first.

Talking about perspective, and since this business isn't a two game race, let's take Halo (and by default Halo3 MLG Pro, lol) out of the equation for a moment. Suddenly the word 'fail' for an FPS takes on a whole new meaning.

After a little research, it appears that Killzone 2, after being out less than a year, has ALREADY outsold almost every FPS on the 360, PS3 and Wii bar a handful. And the ones it hasn't yet (like BioShock, Left 4 Dead and Rainbow Six Vegas 2), it's within striking distance.

With alot of crappy and sugar coated DLC's out on the market these days , KZ2 has some of the best map add on's . If your a fan of the game I would advise picking up atleast the "southern hills" pack, if your on a budget . If not, pick them all up.
KZ2 is mostly for the hardcore shooter players so I can see why alot of casual players has shy'd away from the gameplay mechanics. As of sales being a disappointment ? KZ2 has sold well considering the amount of PS3 games/content(PStore) pumped out by Sony in the past 2yrs.
