Pachter: Borderlands Sent to Die

Sorry to hear about your loss of job. I just got a new one so I'll pick this game up and play it for the both of us :) As for the article itself, once again, Patcher has diarrhea of the mouth. So what if Dragons Age and COD do better then Borderlands? They're expected to because they've been hyped more. Borderlands was not put on a pedestal and declared a game that would change the face of gaming forever. Borderlands is getting good scores thus far from reviewers and I've seen some awesome gameplay so I'm picking it up as well as many other people. I know it's been said a billion times but, here goes a billion and 1, Patcher, STFU!

Pachter is right .I have no doubt that borderlands will do well but there is no denying the fact that if it had come out around june or july, it whould have been a financial gold nine.

Most people will be picking this game later within the year bcz of games like MW2 ,AC2,U2.

As for me it is the only must buy game this month everything else i rented.

I just spent like 120 getting Demons Souls and Uncharted 2. This game

I don't know if it is on death row, but it is certainly not in a good release window. My gaming budget for October is tied up in Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, and Ratchet & Clank. My November budget is going to Dragon Age: Origins, Modern Warfare 2, and Assassin's Creed 2. The God of War Collection and The Saboteur each have a spot in December's budget, but that does leave room for another game. That will probably be either Borderlands or Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.

His predictions are either eerily accurate, or horribly WRONG. I'm personally hoping that this time he is wrong because Borderlands, with its growing list of solid reviews and unique combination of RPG Sandbox and FPS styles, is worth action gamers attention everywhere.

As a side note, I'm probably not even going to pick up MW2. With the pricing issues, lack of servers on PC, and the fact that it is just an improved version of COD4, the appeal isn't that high. That and I would rather give my money to a smaller, independent, more original company like Gearbox.

Looks like my holiday list will be Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank for PS3, Boderlands and Brutal Legend on 360, and Dragon Age: Origins on PC. Left for Dead II is a Maybe.

Whether I buy it or rent it, I will play this game. I think what the devs are trying to do with this game, and I love loot. I supported Brutal Legend and now I will support Borderlands.

I personally dont think Patcher has anything to worry about with Borderlands. the game is already receiving decent reviews. Is it a filler between AAA titles....yes, but the game will stand on its own. I cant wait for the game personally. Its been a long time coming and looks promising.

I never thought I would say this, but I think he is right here. This game can not compete with MW2, UC2, ACII. From all the videos I have seen, this game looks cheesy compared to the amazing releases that are coming out now and in the immediate future. I agree, this guy is a joke, but I think he is right on this instance. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and again.

@5.1 maybe because he can play online for free? He is confident his PS3 will make it through the whole game and not so positive his other console would? Anyways, this game looks like one of those "solid-but-not-great" ; games. The reviews so far have been a bit "meh". Being the uber-refined game snob that I am my guess it "meh" will be my response as well.

Like others, my time is all wrapped up with Demon's Souls and Uncharted 2, and with MW2 coming along, Borderlands will be relegated to my "sorta-interesting-games- that-I-just-didn't-care-enough- about-pit-of-despair". Whilst there, it can hob-knob with Brutal Legend.

I personally want this game, Patcher is right in a way saying that Borderlands is facing up against some nasty competition but saying that its a dead man walking is a crock. I think that people want to try Borderlands not just because its good but it breathes new life into the FPS genre. It has a cool art style and a unique way of of gameplay (I know of Deus Ex btw...but Borderlands makes differences to it) and lets face it, in the season of holiday games people want to buy games to entertain them through the holidays...I want this game and I want it to succeed.

When should this game release? Beginning of 2010 is going to be more crowded then holiday '09. Do they really want to hold off until summer, nearly a year away? By then the game will have sat too long and lost some of its appeal. I say release it now and see how it does. MW2 is still a month away and Dragon Age is nothing like this game, so I wouldn't be too concerned.

Dude, it's not like Call of Duty 2 or 3 were very different from the original. Hell, Modern Warfare just added the perk system. Other than that and the replacement of the WW2 theme with a contemporary one, the gameplay is virtually identical to the original entry in the series. It's remained largely the same because it works.

any FPS fan should pick up Borderlands first, then decide whether to get MW2 later.

I always hear people talking about how important innovation is, but at the end of the day the same sh*t always happens - people queuing up to buy the latest 'BIG NAME' run-of-the-mill fps.

i should be picking this up sometime before Christmas(i hope). When it comes to online, I like to concentrate on 1 game at a time, and right now UC2 is taking up all my gaming hours :)

I wish I can call Borderlands good filler between the gap of AAA games coming out, but there are just so many that Borderlands will eventually just fade away. It will be one of those games where after Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain, GT5, MW2, AC2, GOW3, and all the others are released, people will glance over at their dust ridden copies of Borderlands and think "Why the hell did I buy this?"

Fun co-op will not be enough to have people coming back, in-turn giving them no incentive to hold on to it. Everyone will just sell it.

I got flashpoint and have taken it back for a full credit. that money will go towards this game.

I do hope it sells well enough to be encouraging and spur other dev's to try new stuff with fps.

This game looks retarded to me. Just my personal opinion. It just seems that there other games out there that offer a similar experience and do a better job.
