Mass Effect 2 on PS3? Bioware says: "probably"

Watamaniuk mentioned during the presentation at this year's Poznan Game Arena (polish gaming expo), as much as 3 platform targets for Mass Effect 2. These were Xbox 360, PC, and "probably PS3". After a moment he understood what he said and retreated from earlier statements, saying he doesn't comment on rumors and speculation.

Mass Effect 1 was good, but i can see why maybe RPG fans would say it is a turd, because it was barely RPG, mainly a shooter. Still I enjoyed it on 360, so I'll probably get this on 360 as well (to carry over the character).

I liked Mass Effect 1. IMO it's one of the better games available on the 360/PC.

It might not be good to some people if you pay attention to the flaws, but overall it was a good experience. Calling it a "turd" is going a bit too far.

PS3 owners should be happy if ME2 does ever go to it.

If it doesn't, then oh well just move along. Buy a 360 if you really want to play it.

I was just playing Mass Effect 1 on 360 today (still need to finish it), and it's an amazing game. I would love to be able to play ME2 OR ME1 on PS3.

I also find it amusing that EA's trying so hard to crush the rumor while Bioware's practically confirming it. There's really no doubt anymore; ME2 is coming to PS3.

As far as me and the majority of ps3 owners are concerned, if it's not on the ps3 and it's on the 360 then its an exclusive. It doesn't matter if its on the PC aswell because most people don't have $300 consoles and high end gaming machines. This means that most of us can't run these pc games to there full potential. And on top of that MOST OF US DONT WANT TO. Why do you think people buy consoles? because they like to game in there living rooms, with a controller, an hdtv, and full surround sound. I agree with PorcelainGod, Mass Effect is indeed a turd that relied on the alien lesbian sex for hype. All the nerds rated this RPG-disguised-mediocre-TPS highly because of their excitement for that scene. The game was especially bad on PC because it had no game-pad support. I like the Mass Effect theme but the game itself is highly overrated. It's really very boring.

Still though, I have hope for ME2 just because I do like the theme of the game.

PS3 fanboys are giving the excuse that because EA owns Bioware Mass Effect will be ported to PS3. They have a valid point since it's held true for several other former PlayStation/PS2/PS3 exclusives like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto, and Devil May Cry.

If Bioware does have plans to make Mass Effect multiplatform then I support them. It's a great game and seriously it doesn't cause me any harm as a gamer to see it go to PS3.

I've said it before, Mass Effect is the only next gen game that I can identify this generation of gaming with. Its sheer ambition and presentation still remain as of yet unrivaled.

I don't know why any PS3 owners would be knocking this game.
I suppose it's because I've seen xbox fans turn their backs on some great titles that went to PS3 before like Bioshock, that I assumed it must be xbox guys downplaying the title.

It's critically acclaimed, and to be honest, very well done. (played a bit on PC, realized how bad I need a better video card).

Mass Effect would be a welcomed addition to the PS3 library, no doubt.

On a side note, Dragon Age looks fantastic so either way I'll be enjoying some Bioware goodness this winter.

Well I won't go so far as to say that Mass Effect was a complete turd but I will say that the game was waaaaaaaay overrated. Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game a lot but I still felt underwhelmed after I finished it. It was a buggy, glitchy mess for one thing and I thought the speech decision making was incredibly monotonous and redundant after about the first 3 hours. The cover system was horrible and I hated how you couldn't switch from a right over the shoulder to a left over the shoulder third person view. The loading screens? Oh god let's not even go there.

I own a 360, it's a great console. I love RPG's... but I thought Mass Effect was disappointing and a bit flat. I wouldn't quite call it a turd, but it wasn't far off. Awful driving sections. A large proportion of the game stuck in a lift. Wooden and glitchy graphics. Limited weapons / armour.

you must have not played it very much cause, when I played I was constantly picking up and switching out various types of armors/guns/bullet upgrades. In my opinion, the menu system was tedious and a pain after a while.

I will agree with the driving sections, but I found the gameplay/story to be pretty good especially with the creative dialogue and excellent voice acting.

If ME2 comes to the ps3, have fun ps3 owners.

You are nitpicking Jdoki. First of all their are TONS of armor and weapon selections including the bullets and ammo you use. The side missions were a lil repetitive and could of used more variety. Everything else you mention is just a minor complaint. How about the epic storytelling? Great characters. Easily the best sci fi story I have ever experienced in a game.

Well, IDK, but the one thing I would rule out now is that it's all "mistakes" and coincidences"-there's too much of it happening for this to be anyhing other than some kind of strategy in my book.

This leaves us with Nioware going down one of two roads.1 MER2 IS going to be coming out on PS3 as well and EA want to announce it somewher for a big splash while B/W, for whatever reasons of their own, would rather have it out there now. Or, 2, Bioware aren't yet making it for the PS3 vut would like to force EA into making it possible with sorting out funds and contracts and this cuilds up momentum from PS3 gamers who want the game on their system.

There's, howver, another way that's possible right now and that's Bioware like publicity(and this is largely good-having PS3 fans clamour for your game and 360 fans wanting to keep it exclusive)and this keep the game on peoples lips and screens which is great for watever releases they decide on making.

But whatever's going on I can't think Bioware are just this useless and that it's all mistaken outbursts.

They talk sales, and they know ME2 sales will be based mainly on people that know what the hell ME is...and for that base to be consolidated on the PS3, they'd only win (in sales and instal base) by releasing ME1 beforehand, or WITH ME2...

With a game that is as story driven and a sequel that is so dependent on the first ones story, why would anyone want to just buy the second one and play it? Makes no sense.

Besides, I really dont know why they are wasting their time. The PS3 version will be at least 6 months to a year late to the party, and an inferior version (Bioware has no experience on the PS3), therefore just like all the sloppy seconds before on the PS3 (The Orange Box, Bioshock, etc.), it wont sell worth a crap.

All that's been said is that Mass Effect will probably come to PS3. Nothing else, no explaination of how it will tell the story to new players. For all we know they could do a mass effect 1 & 2 bundle.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 has just come out on PS3, over a year since NG2 came out on 360. I never played 2, I only played NG, Black and Sigma so I don't miss the lack of OTT blood. Even so, I really don't feel I have sloppy seconds, and I don't care it's taken this long for me to get to play it. I'm really enjoying playing the game.

The important thing to me, as a gamer is the fact I will get to play it.

Well they have a few options...

1. Port the 360 version of ME1 to PS3 and launch it as a separate game while the 360 owners enjoy their 6-12 months exclusivity of Mass Effect 2. Batman Arkham Asylum has shown that the PS3 can handle unreal engine games well enough now.

2. Add a 'previously on Mass Effect...' video or storyline that could be either integrated in to the game (unlikely) or watched before hand.

3. Add a port of the game on the the Mass Effect 2 Blu-Ray.

FF13 - Before the announcement of it going multi-platform, PS3 fanboys praised this game like there was no tomorrow. Once it went multiplat, PS3 fanboys could care less about it. They downgraded SE and ripped on any new news about the game. Suddenly to droids, Versus is the better game, just because it was still exclusive.

MGS franchise- PS3 fanboys considered this their holy grail after FF13 went multiplat. MGS:IV was a great game, and 360 fanboys knew it. You didn't see the kind of bashing Forza, Gears, or Halo gets. Maybe a few xbots dissed the length of the cutscenes, but that doesn't relate to the quality of the game. Once MGS: Rising was announced for 360 and PS3, droids claimed it didn't matter because 360 fanboys don't get MGS:IV and that technically MGS was never exclusive to the PS brand. News flash, do you fanboys remember saying MGS will NEVER come to 360 because of Kojima's loyalty to Sony. I sure do, and in fact, I remember many droids saying this. Now that MGS is on 360, fanboys claim Kojima sucks and takes checks from Microsoft. WTF is wrong with you guys? Kojima is a genius, whether he makes games for Playstation or Xbox. Droids just can't stay on one side of the argument.

NG2 - When this was first considered a 360 exclusive, most PS3 fanboys ripped on the Ninja Gaiden franchise. There were a few who said they "might" get a 360 for it, but the majority ignored it and passed it off as irrelevant and a crappy ninja game. Well now that it's on PS3, it instantly becomes relevant and apparently NG2 was just a "beta" test. The game was released more than a year ago, of course there are going to be improvements. They already had the game made. Essentially they just took that year to make improvements to the game, like I would expect ANY game that released on another console a year after being first introduced. To me, I would have rather played the game when it was released and got the core game experience FIRST.

Mass Effect 2 - This is one of my favorites, and corresponds to the article. When Mass Effect was only on 360 and PC, PS3 fanboys once again dissed it and said it was irrelevant. This game was very good, but not in PS3 fanboy eyes. Now that there are rumors about the possibility of it coming to PS3, amazingly enough all these same fanboys are praising the game now and hoping every night that these rumors are true.

I provided two examples of franchises that were once only on one console. Anyone see the pattern? This is why I refuse to let myself become a PS3 fanboy. I don't want to become filth in the gaming industry.

Now just for fun, I'm going to show how closed-minded you guys actually are. Before the Slim, sales meant NOTHING to droids. NOTHING! Now that the PS3 is actually selling great, automatically sales is a great point to PS3 fanboy arguments. So which is it, guys? Do sales matter? When they're in your favor they do, and that my friends, is pathetic.

Gaming should be about what people enjoy. Millions of people enjoy Halo, millions enjoy Gears, millions enjoy the Xbox 360, and millions enjoy the PS3 and their exclusive games. Just accept that. This isn't a war, this is a made up delusion some 30 something idiot named Elpresador started. If you guys want to be filth, and bash anything Microsoft, go ahead. Sony isn't innocent, and neither is Microsoft. But you know what? They make amazing games, and amazing consoles. End of story.

PS3 exclusives are better in every way, that's a fact. Look at Uncharted 2 (97) KZ2 (91) LBP (95). the PS3 has proven time and time again that it can deliver far greater games in terms of quality. That's why PS3 owners don't care about multiplats. We don't brag about them like bots do because we have IMMENSELY superior exclusives. When FFXIII went multiplat, all of it's potential was lost due to the VERY inferior 360 hardware and DVD. You know that, you're just in denial. NGS2 is FAR superior than NG2. That's why PS3 owners praise it. Whether you like it or not, PS3 has the highest rated exclusives and all of the high rated multiplats. 360 has nothing except XBL fees.

And we brag about ME2 and SCC becuase even though we don't care since they're multiplat, it's good to rub it in you bots' faces. Same thing with sales, it's just great to take YOUR excuses and turn em against you. I don't give a sh1t about sales, but I'm tired of stupid bots making stuff up and spreading FUD.

See, that's exactly what I'm taking about. You're delusional. The reason PS3 exclusives are better is because of the engines. Yeah, Blu-ray helps but it's mostly the engines.

The 360 has recycled engines that were created and worked with during and after that one year head start. It doesn't mean the games are terrible, but developers prefer to use a known engine, instead of creating a new one for 360 exclusives.

What happens when you take an engine, example: Unreal, and put it on the PS3? It has problems. I'm sure a lot of developers for Sony would rather make a new engine to make an exclusive game and get the most out of the PS3 instead of messing with Unreal. Multiplats are different, and many developers will use Unreal because it's easier. But when you only work on PS3 exclusives, unreal isn't going to be a great choice.

I'm not a bot, I just see how overran this site is with one-sided idiots. I appreciate the PS3, and I always have(except when I first bought mine, but it grew on me, and now it's a great console). Just because I prefer the way the 360's online plays out, doesn't mean I'm a bot. I just PREFER using the 360 over the PS3 for multiplats. I love playing both side's exclusives and laughing at idiots like you who devote their damn life to nonsense. Grow up.

Saaking, sales matter whether you think so or not. It determines the possibility of sequels, how much money the developers get back, and also shows how popular a game is. It doesn't relate to quality, no, that's what review scores are for. It relates to how many people actually enjoy it, whether it's AAA or not. When you have both sales AND great review scores like Halo and Gears get, sales isn't the only argument there. Suddenly if a 360 exclusive gets scored well, and sells well, reviewers MUST be getting paid by Microsoft. That's what you guys do. If one thing doesn't work, you bring up the other. Xbots are the same way, but take a look at this site and you tell me which side is worse. -_-;

Microsoft does need to step it up with graphics, but in terms of gameplay they don't need to. The current engines allow them an easier, cost efficient way to put out great games. Just because the graphics aren't better, doesn't mean the games are worthless. These same games with older engines STILL score very well.

In the case of the PS3, newer engines will benefit the PS3 more. It gives it more appeal over the Xbox. Like I said, the 360 has engines that work great and deliver great games. The PS3 is hard to develop for, and trying to use the engines that were made for the 360 and PC is probably a pain in the ass. ND knows this, so they took it upon themselves to make a game from the ground up, with their own style.

What I'm trying to say, is the PS3 needs newer engines more than the 360 does. Things that have worked for the 360 and PC since the beginning don't benefit the PS3 like brand new engines built just for the PS3.

NONE of it is fine. My points are about this site in general. I love the way N4G is setup and it provides the latest speculation and news in the industry almost as soon as it happens. I used to love coming in and seeing what people had to say about games in the gamer zone, but nowadays it seems there are no lines between gamer and open. A lot of the same 360 fanboys all the PS3 fanboys claim to have ripped on them in the past have grown up, and realized it doesn't pay to troll. Now, PS3 fanboys use it as an excuse to troll when in reality the PS fanboys started it first with the original Xbox. It doesn't matter who started what, but this site lost all my respect. I mean, I own Unreal Tournament 3 and that game not only plays fine (even though I don't personally care for it), but it was also rated higher than the XBOX 360 version.

And then there's that "little" Batman game.

Anyways, until the XBOX 360 comes out with a game that is on par with Killzone 2 or Uncharted 2, it's going to be assumed that the XBOX 360 is incapable. There comes a time when "the proof is in the pudding" factor just takes hold, and regarding the XBOX 360's question of "capabilities", I mean,

You're pretty much saying that gameplay means nothing to you. If you deny the 360 has great games, you deny yourself as a gamer. The proof is in the reviews. This year 360 had Halo Wars which was AA, not great, but still good. Halo ODST was a great game. XBLA releases included Splosion Man, Shadow Complex, South Park, etc. The new GTA episode is coming out as well. Forza 3, needs no defense. L4D2, Alan Wake, Halo Reach, Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell(the PS3 version isn't confirmed guys, don't start, it's currently 360 exclusive), Natal, and who knows what else coming in the future. I'm certain that Microsoft has something up their sleeve. Don't you love their surprises?

I thought ND had a lot of tweaks to add to the engine. Look at their amazing cover system. Havok is also a still a new engine. 2008 I think?

Anyway, if Mass Effect 2 comes to PS3, then awesome. That means more people get to play it. I liked the first Mass Effect, it's not for everyone, but it's unique enough to be a great title. 9/10 in my book. Mass Effect 2 will probably be even better so like I said, it's great that more people get to play it.

This generation has been filled with the notion that graphics make games. Gameplay is also important and the 360 still offers that. There has been a drought this year, but if you remember back, the first AAA PS3 exclusive above 9/10 was MGS4. How many years did it take for that? I'm not bashing Uncharted(should have been AAA) or other AA titles just stating that droughts happen. I think next year will be a truly amazing year for both companies, and Microsoft will HAVE to step it up to stay in gear.

But here we have the PS3 fanboys bashing every single game Microsoft releases as an exclusive on their console to a degree that shouldn't even be intellectually possible given their age. Resorting to trolling every few hours to try and discourage people from buying any 360 exclusives is rediculous. I liked the old days when there were the same amount of posts on both sides. At least 360 fanboys could defend theirselves. But the PC version doesn't support he bloody 360 controller. I have to try it out on a 360 but my initial impressions were not exactly positive. I doubt many PS3 fans are ecstatic about Mass Effect or it's franchises knowing that we have Demon's souls, Uncharted 2 and the like to nourish their gaming souls. If it were true, then that would be like admitting the 360 exclusives are way better than the PS3, which in turn would not be accepted now that the console war is at it's "hottest".

I only use Joy2Key for Dreamcast emulators. It was a nightmare trying to configure the keys for the 360 controller. IN FACT, there are just too many keyboard keys to be inputted on the controller. The 360 version has a different interface and I WOULD'VE PREFERED that one.

Mass Effect 1 was pretty shoddy. I love RPG's, but ME1 had me laughing the whole way through. The dialogue, and how it's ALL set up the same, place a head on the 1/3rd line, put a blurry out of focus face in the foreground, then alternate based on who's talking- repeat repeat repeat for like 40 hours. The environments were needlessly HUGE, like, to the point where I wish I had a scooter to get around because the amount of needless walking made me want to scream. The combat was simply stiff with an added shaking camera, (like Socom, but with a better camera). the action was often interrupted by that god-awful combat menu, and the pop-ins were something else...

I think a lot of people who played it did not play many really good RPG's, or were just salivating for something new at the time. I know I was. The replaying with your characters was a nice feature though. The whole thing sounded nice on paper, but it really didn't do it for me.

I made a comment like this once, and it was removed. It's OK though. I'll voice my opinion on one of my most overhyped and sadly disappointing games this generation.

But yeah. Bioware, good developer, nothing against them. Baldur's gate is an all-time favorite. ME1 felt like the Too Human equivalent of a Bioware game.

I'm laughing. The lore in Mass Effect is what sucks you in. How Bioware makes everything feel "believable" is just incredible. Game is very story driven, just would not make sense to me for them to release the 2nd, before the first. Kind of like starting Star wars on Empire strikes back... you would be lost. Not saying I would be angry, but these release date is 3 months away... and NO ONE has seen a ME 1 or 2 PS3 build. Think about it. If it does get ported it won't be done by Bioware... think Orange Box. From what I see They have a lot on there plate... from Dragon Age, Mass Effect trilogy, and Swotor now. I hope PS3 owners do get it, as everyone should dive into the Mass Effect universe.

So we finally see the effects of the EA buyout. I knew that EA wasn't going to allow ME to be a third party exclusive considering EA loves to port every game it makes to every possible console. This is good news if you love ME. This just means that more people get to experience how great it is.

On a side note, I think third party exclusives are a dying breed. Both MS and Sony have lost numerous third party exclusives. Developers seem more concerned with maximizing profit rather than brand loyalty.
