Im just going to lean back and watch how all this is going to unfold.

Those who are expecting the PS3 to outsell the 360 by 2:1 are completely delusional.

At the very best the PS3 will outsell the 360 by the same margin the 360 has been outselling the PS3 in 2009 or a bit more.

And its going to be like dat till the end of this gen: that is 1 year the 360's on top then, the next year the PS3 and so on and so on.

I think its simply the excitement that is making you guys see "skew".

I really cant wait to see the August and October sales for the PS3 and 360 so that you can come down to earth a bit when you'll see that the PS3 outsold the 360 by the same margin the 360 is doing right now.

Price was the only barrier that didnt allow sony to sell tons of PS3s to its consumers. Now that the Price Dropped to Sub-$300, its not a barrier anymore.

BTW, what year are we in with the PS3's Lifecycle? 6? no. more like 2 3/4 years into its lifecyle.

You said the truth there. People buy what they want based on the perceived entertainment value they are looking for. Casuals wont be buying the ps3. They flock to the wii. Casuals buying the ps3 would be for the blu but wait...they did that at first. Now there are cheaper blu players. Casuals dont buy the ps3 for the free online because they are to casual. sony sees the casual market as something they need to go after now..a little late if I do say.

At least ms has been making strides to cater to the casuals while not totally turning their backs on the core. The consumer will buy the wii then the 360 and finally the ps3. It is sort of the evolution of the casual to core. You start off small and then evolve to more flashy hd gaming and finally the whole hd package with movies/games.

Everyone I know plans on getting one now that the PS3 is $300, some of them plan on getting one or more as gifts for others. The PS3 is now at a price where most people can afford to get one with just the money they have from one paycheck, which is the perfect price point for this economy. So from now to Jan first, expect PS3s to be first come first served as they are going to sell like hotcakes.

Don't be surprised when PS3 jumps past Xbox360 and starts breathing down Wii's neck by this time next year... provided they can manufacture them fast enough.

As I start checking around the web, reading game site articles, forums, & blogs, one thing starts to become apparant to me...

People spend way too much time these days analyzing & arguing over the ups & downs of these little boxes we play games on, instead of just enjoying playing games. There are lots of cool games on the horizon for both 360 & PS3. It is going to be all good for both 360 & PS3 owners this fall & winter. Sweet.

Yeah I don't get the wars...I have 2 of the 3 consoles this generation (if you count the Wii as a console...) and always said that I would get the third when the time was right - when it was worth it FOR ME.

Why take sides when you can play both sides of the field? This winter, when there's 3 feet of snow on the ground, I will be playing LittleBigHaloGearSolidFantasy XIII, and when I get tired of that I will be playing ForzaTurismo III/V.

Hah, now I can get Final Fantasy Versus and play that right along side Gods of Gears of War III.

Except a larger userbase and gamers with existing libraries that won't be repurchased on the other side. I won't be playing Rock Band on PS3...why? I have over 150 tracks downloaded, all the instruments and such - why would I? Even if it's a better game on PS3 (I don't know if it is or not) I won't switch due to the cost involved. I'm sure others are in the same situation. That said, from this point forward, perhaps multiplat games will be on a more equal footing, as they have been slanted against Sony for a while now.

This whole casual-game shovelware business needs to stop. I personally don't like it when people are attracted to a console for games such as "Super Barbie Babyz" and "Milo and his Virtual Poodle" and no gamer should be excited that a console draws this type of attention. I mean, the 8bit NES was great mainly because of the huge library of games. The Wii, on the other hand, has a huge library too, but not like the old NES. 95% of Wii games are gimmicky kid stuff. What happened to the value of the gold Nintendo seal? Metroids, Zeldas, Resident Evils, sure those are games - but not CARNIVAL BALOON POPS! and such. I hope, as a gamer, that these new motion controls don't bring the shovelware loads of junk to PS3 and 360. Problem is, these loads of garbage game bring the companies some serious bank...Nintendo cashes in on the pile of garbage games, and to be honest, both MS and Sony are missing out. While I hate it, I can see why they want to cash in on the fad as well. Let's just hope the entire industry doesn't get sucked into the black hole of trash along with it.

On a final note - why do customers defend a company as if it were their family member? Me? I'm fickle. I'll change sides because I want what serves ME best. I don't care a dang about company loyalty - who offers me the best service for the best price, etc? If this big PS3 surge works out and games start flowing, and the console becomes even remotely near as legendary as my PS2 was, oh heck yeah I'm on board too. I'll be prepared to support whoever is better, because in the end (and this is the sad truth) both systems are great, and neither is as dysfunctional as the other side would have you believe. Many pros and cons for both angles, both "teams" if you will. If they're different enough, and have enough different exclusives, they both warrant attention.

TL;DR version: OnLive = garbage that won't live up to its own hype.

Onlive is trash. No trophies, no achievements, no friend list, etc. 720p at best, and regardless of what the company claims, there will have to be latency involved, as it's not just a command based data stream being sent back and forth - your whole video and sound stream are also being sent over the net as well.

If everyone in the world had 60MB/sec fiber lines, then great - it might work! Verizon's FIOS and AT&T's U-verse stream 1080i/1080p video through their service, over similar speed fiber lines. I have U-verse, and guess what - signal loss happens. Onlive can't suggest that they can do something similar over a 5MB/sec connection, or whatever the average user has. The fastest in my area is 12MB/sec (for cable/DLS/Fiber) and I think OnLive would lag on that, at least occasionally.

How is a Slim model and a price drop to late for a console scheduled for a 10-14 year life cycle? This is almost it's third full year on the market. The PS2 got a slim on it's 4-5th year and is still going 5 years later.

its never to late for anything, to me the big factor will be Japan, sony is at around 23.7mill right? and MS is about 28-30? with this price cut and games like FF13 and even FF14 I think these games and other big titles down the line will allow sony to gain ground on MS, MS may have US right now but US doesnt account for the rest of the world, and just cause you have the lead in the US doesnt mean you have won already. we dont know who is coming out of the gate first, but i can tell you this m$ is already coming out with a new system called natal. which if doesn't fair well, you will never see a xbox 720.

next lets talk about sony making money vrs xbox losing money. which this author got totally wrong. If you want to do a test for yourselves and see that sony is going to catch, and possibly even surpass the xbox within a year go into your local gamestop stand next to the ps3 section and watch for moms to come in with their kids. all you hear is i want a ps3 for x-mas.
i was in my local gamestop for 15 mins and i must have heard this a hundred times. things are a changing and people can't ignore that the ps3 is way more for your buck.

before it felt like you were paying too much for what the ps3 brought now it seems like you are paying too little. In a economy that is troubled like this one perception is key.
the reason M$ is struggling right now is because of this reason( one good quarter for them doesn't mean sh1t everyone was surprised that the ps3 was doing so good when all you hear is bad stuff from last quarter)
M$ perception is that the 360 has faulty hardware not only that people are starting to see that you have to pay a lot more for the xbox.

lots of people love their 360 but the 360 has had to reinvent itself more than ps3 has had too. their has been how many 360 sku's? and now their is going to be another one xbla has had how many refreshes? you can say the ps3 has had firmware updates but not until 3.0 will we see any differences and thats just font. xmb has won how many awards?
what kills me and i'm sure alot of you see it. M$ get so much praise while the ps3 get the bad end of the stick. but this is sony fault also. sony needs to have a commercial that just shows every feature of the ps3 or something is best buy that teaches people how to use it.also show that you can shat with friends for free.

i got friends who just found out they can use my games on their system and vice versa. you know how many psn games i have now.

another thing about last quarter is everyone knew if your not a idiot that the ps3 was dropping in price so sales slowed. Then their was a lot of people who were just waiting on a price drop. so since this has already sold out on ebay and best buy and wal-mart and target and gamestop i wonder how are 360 fans like the one who wrote this article are going to justify that the 360 is better than the ps3.

also devlopers get off your fat arse's and make us real games not these ps2 high def games. show us that we are in the next gen and not last. i dont want mutiple disk, i dont want dlc i want full games that are worth 60 bucks and that ill play over and over again. hell if you guys start using full 50 gb blu ray's ill pay 75 dollars a game.
well not that much. not saying all these games are not worth 60 but how can xbox justify forza 3 being 2 disk and now day and night system. come on this isnt the ps1 days where im trying to play japanese disk.

finaly thought if 08 was a great years for the ps3 in terms of games and so far 09 has been all ps3 and 2010 well from what you can see is already ps3 what will 2011 and 2012 look like. games are in the works and havent even been announced yet. wait till ps3 get sequels like killzone 3, resistance 3 , new socom, infamous 2, warhawk 2 . damn its looking really good. heavy rain 2?

Well it's definitely to late to catch up to the overall sales of the 360. This will help create a surge in sales but like most times settle down after the hype dwindles. It's unimaginable to think that people here believe the ps3 can catch up to the lead of the 360. Just do the math and you can see it's nearly impossible.

the only reason the 360 is out selling the PS3 is the simple fact that the 360's keep RROD or other reasons and they buy a new one hoping it wont happen again. simple truth that MS wont talk about and just keeps saying we sold over 30 mill but how many of the 30 mill don't work is the # I would love to see. the slim gives lots of people the reason to buy one at a low price of $299.

I believe we're being ripped-off again in Australia... says in the U.S., PS3 slim would retail for about US$299 = AU$360 but have seen a big print-out on of the papers here that reads ( "bargain new PS3 slim AU$498 ) = *US$414!
