Well, it looks like I'll be getting a second PS3. I've never owned a Slimmed down version of a Playstation console (I've only owned the Original versions) so I'm pretty excited about it.

If Microsoft is still going to sell the Elite 360 for $299, they need to throw in the overpriced Wifi adapter for free or something, because I'm pretty sure that all PS3 Slim models will have it standard.

Considering everything you get out of the box with a PS3, $299 is a STEAL. All I want now is some specs and more photos of it.

"Copy Data" its not so easy. Locked saves can't be copied (KZ2 among those). Swapping HDD doesn't work either. Those saves are locked to the machine. Also, swapping a HDD might make you reinstall/reformat the HDD. I took my 320G from my 60G PS3 and put it into a brand new 80G (both same FW version). I had to re-initialze the HDD and reinstall the FW update on the 80G (I had a backup made first - Got "incompatible FW" error on the 80). I am pretty sure, this same applies to the Slim (complete new HW revision). So, be careful what you do if you swap the HDD or copy the saves.

You MUST backup your PS3s HDD to an external device. Even those copy protected games saves can be copied now.

Trophy collections are saved to your online profile, not the HDD so you won't loose them no matter what.

Use the PS3s backup utility and an external HDD or a large memory device if you can. You choose which things you're backing up.

My only gripe with this new PS3 Slim and its new price point is the fact that something has to be missing from the original PS3 for it to be at that new price point. It's very hard for me to believe that it has the same exact specs and gadgets of the first one with a different price point. Sony obviously had to take away some of the more expensive features like the Touch Sensitive Eject and Reset Button; Of course it's going to be cheaper if they decide to do something like that, however things like that come with a price:

* Sony will lose billions again due to the giant pricing imbalance, allowing the PlayStation 3 to fail even more and lag behind the Xbox 360 and Wii.

* Have a smaller and uglier PlayStation 3 console which is steps back from the orginal. Ask yourself, Who is going to want that?

In conclusion the Xbox 360 has had two price drops recently, obtained amazing arcade and full game exclusives and Project Natal which may be coming this Christmas; thus why more people are leaning towards the Xbox 360 more than the Playstation 3. Sony's going to lose and they know it, what they have just done a desperation move and it's just a matter of time before Sony Computer Entertainment falls. You've been nice Playstation and you were one of the best but it's time for the Xbox 360 to take the crown.

Well then let me explain this to you.

1) The only reason there is an 8 million unit gap is because M$ had a 353 day (or 11 days short of 1 year) headstart.If Sony had a 1 year head start you would probably see a BIGGER GAP then just 8 million units because of the PS2 FAN BASE!

2) Besides the few ps3ers who plan on buying a second ps3 (or a ps3 slim), and the few xbox fans who will jump ship and buy a ps3 slim. The next logical conclusion would be the millions of ps2 fans (who haven't upgraded yet for what ever reason) buying the PS3 slim.

3)For the $299 new price point of the 120gb ps3 slim ,Sony offers more VALUE for the MONEY then M$ can.

I'm truely sorry that the previous gen xbox has a 0 fan base to build on , and that the ps2 fan base is still there just waiting for the right time to upgrade.

I like what I see from sony, and wonder what microsoft will do. There are a few things I can think of that they should do. If they do what I want then I will be very happy with my 360 and very happy with my PS3 slim that im gona get soon. Looks like games con is pretty exciting, better than E3.

What about nintendo? Are they doing anything? I have a felling the wii sales will continue to decline. Even though they still have massive sales it seems sony and micro are making pretty big strides. Its pretty clear that nintendo abandoned most of the people who played on their old systems when they released the gamecube, but I think they could be doing more with their Wii. Im guessing they will drop the price sometime next year as they probably want one more holiday season with max profits. Who knows maybe there will still be wii shortages?

Great news for sony and gamers! I think on an economical stand point, the PS3 original and the slim at the same price point is going to kill the PS3 original. You're right about one thing , ps3 fans may be getting ahead of themselves but when you say that the ps3 is behind you are wrong and here is why.

The xbox 360 had a 353 day head start on sony which eqauls about 7 or 8 million units sold on average.If the 360 could out sell the ps3's yearly sales (which they do not ) then you may have an arguement.

With the slim and a price cut the 1 year gap of 7 million units will most likely disappear.By this time next year I highly doubt that the 360 will be 7 million units ahead of sony.

As for the Wii, I will not try to undermind that console but it's marketed towards the casual gamer and more towards kids.

I must say, if I didn't already own both a 360 and a PS3, there's no way I'd get a 360 over a PS3 now. The library of games is basically equal across both platforms (you've got enough exclusives on each console to cover all the important genres plus most of the most popular games are multiplatform), so that shouldn't be a game-changer for either console. I mean, you'll always have people who want Halo, so they want a 360, or people who want Gran Turismo so they'll want a PS3, but for the most part, the PS3 is at least as appealing as the 360 in terms of software.

So it all comes down to the other stuff, and really it's tough to beat the PS3 right now in terms of value. For the exact same 300 dollars, you get blu-ray and wi-fi in your console, in addition to free online gaming. That's significant stuff, right there.

Sony had it right with the 60GB PS3. It was perfect. It had B/C, all the media slots you could ask for, HDMI, decent enough HDD space at the time and yet it launched at the laughably high price of $599. But it still to this day is the be-all-end-all of PS3s. It should have been $299 for the 20GB and $399 for the 60GB. That is all Sony had to do, and they wouldn't be in the situation they're in now.

This just seems like a desperation, last ditch kinda move for Sony. Usually these "slims" come out once the Playstation of the time had run its course (PSone, PStwo). Is it already the same for PS3?

Unfortunately I don't see the ps3 selling at a major point even with the ps3 slim/price cut announced...the 360 will continue on outselling the ps3 for atleast another year 1/2. (Not a fanboy)360 is highly adored by the market, and with sony's failure attempts of marketing, the slim can be overlooked. Everyone will still buy 360's over the ps3, 300$ to us is great, but the average consumer that doesn't go on forums won't even realize what kind of deal is breaking off with sony. 300$ is a miraculous price, but it still is a huge chunk out of your pocket.

I'm just saying, Yes i favor ps3, but for the most part i know how sony is doing nowadays, and the marketing is terrible. In most people eyes 200$ is a deal compaired to 300$(duh!)and if a gamer wants games fast, he probably would most likely look towards 360...So what i'm basically saying is that ps3 needs to be at least 250$..hell i think ps3 still deserves to sell for 600$, but the fact is no one is going to buy it. Firstly, it's great to see the Console wars hotting up a little. It's good for competition, will hopefully make for better games for all systems as they hope to outdo one another and snare a greater share of the market.

Great price point for Sony and perhaps it will mean a turn around in the amount of ports that don't use the system's hardware and finally multi-format developers will start trying to best the technology as they did with the PS2.

As a gamer who's been enthralled through a world of systems since the Commodore 64 - and seen most iterations of fanboyism since C64 Vs Spectrum, I really couldn't give a stuff who wins company wise. It's all about the games for me.

I think my first game would be Uncharted, looks fab.
