More PS3 FW 2.60 Details Emerge

There are some more details emerging about tomorrows PS3 Firmware Update.

According to our source, on top of the already announced Photo Gallery feature, and Divx 3.11 support, here are some more of the expected feaures of FW 2.60:

* Safe Mode
* Blu-Ray Disc Theme Support
* HDD Data can be accessed and deleted in-game
* 3-D Secure Support
* Improved System Stability

We are not exactly sure what these features offer, especially the Blu-Ray Disc Theme Support, and the Safe Mode, but we are looking forward to finding out.

I suppose this is if there is an error. Already we can load the PS3 up while pressing power button on the front while switching it on the back. This recovery mode is rather nice if the HDD or firmware is corrupted.

I'm still new to my PS3, but I haven't found a way to private chat a person on my friends list during a game. I wish they would include that simple feature when they do these updates to the PS3. I know I know, "go play your 360 then", but it's really a pain when I'm playing my PS3 to have my 360 on too so I can talk to friends easier.

Usually if I plan to play a PS3 game with a friend we have to boot up our 360's first to talk until we can get together in a lobby/party, etc.

The day they add this then I can finally keep my 360 off and dusty. ;)

when do they take forever? When you're trying to see your friends avatar or when trying to change your avatar in account mgmt? Either way I don't give your statement much credence. I don't have the fastest connection but I tend to leave my PS3 on. That said, I usually get to see everyone's avatar when I want to see a bud. I think it would be great to have more than Sony's current selection and it maybe taking longer to load is not persuasive at all.

Oh yeah, if we're not going to allow avatars because of possible T&A then why not get rid of blu-tooth mics as well? Gotta prevent the possibility of foul language, right? If you don't like someone's avatar you see it for all of one second in only a few games and if one of your buds has a foul avatar then delete them. Fear of stuff like this is why Home is still lame. I can't hang up my own pictures or play my own media (which is what I was most hyped about) because someone might hear or see something deemed offensive.

PS Home and PS3 video games have an ESRB rating. Blu-ray has standard movie ratings. You can't regulate avatars as it's too close to the XMB. Think about it

Playstation Home will soon sort that out, kinda

Meet up in Home, talk away and then setup and launch a game. The full functionality of it is not there just yet but it'll get there. It won't enable cross game chat but you can at least send a PSN text asking if they wanna play and to meet you in Home, then talk it out.

Such features would be nice without the need for Home, it'd be more convenient actually as there would be no need to quit your game if you don't want to load it up (Home) but you know Sony, they have their own way of doing things.

Hopefully they fully implement both ways to do it at some point, would be cool.

Cellius the team that was created from the Sony and Namco Bandai merger have been quite for a long time but it seems there on there way to delivering 3 titles for the ps3. Brave Arms, Chain Limit, and Second Season 01 are the name of the three titles. Here is what is pretty much known

* Brave Arms - What appears to be a third-person action game in the vein of Ninja Gaiden. One man takes on an oppressive regime in revolt.
* Chain Limit - A James Bond/Jack Bauer style, spy adventure type of game.
* Second Season 01 - A first person, drama/sci-fi action title.

Apparently, these three games represent different narrative genres - one is action, the other survival, the other is investigative. All of them are QTE (Quick Time Event) fests wherein all its gameplay will involve selecting the available targets on screen and pressing buttons to do different actions to change how the scenes play out.

BRAVE ARMS
Brave Arms is a 3rd person adventure in which you seemingly have no ranged weapons, so you attack by getting in close and fighting at ultra-close range with context-sensitive attacks. You can see a "guide line" of your enemies' attacks that tells you what they're about to do and if you react with proper timing you can counter it by pressing the Juggle Button at the instant it would hit you. So it's about getting in close, then it becomes a context-sensitive fighter. It sounds quite similar to Cipher Complex, actually.

CHAIN LIM!T
CHAIN LIM!T uses the Target Link system, which is SORT of similar to QTE, but far more advanced. It looks like you use the two sticks; the left stick chooses areas you can interact with in the environment while the right chooses your action. In the middle shot of the first page, the guy is choosing "Bite" and the tape on his girl's pants. But he could choose to throw some other object or combine two other objects or whatever. Not exactly a linear QTE sort of thing. In the airplane engine thing, we're seeing three scenarios. One where it looks like he dodges a falling box that hits the guy holding his legs, one where he messes up and dies, and one where he selects "remove" while targeting his own belt to drop his pants along with the guy holding them. So theoretically, you can choose any option at any target point, giving you 20+ possible actions. So instead of simple QTE multiple choice, you can combine your options in creative ways.

SECOND
Second is an investigation/adventure game with multiple game modes. One is exploration, one is shooting, and one is selecting voice responses in realtime, which is very similar to Indigo Prophecy. The modes can happen on top of each other, so you can have gun shooting while choosing voice responses. So in the shooting scene they show, you can either blow the target away with your gun (by physically doing it, not selecting it as an option), or try and negotiate with him by selecting your dialogue. You can always change the camera with the right stick, and the options/voice commands change based on what you're facing.

maybe the blu ray theme support is similar to a ps3 game. You know before you enter the disc the background turns to a predetermined background the developers choose.

maybe the same can happen with blu ray films.

and if so, i would like a ps1 game to receive a standard PS1 background and PS2 games the same (not of the individual game that would be impossible but just a background saying PS2 etc)

came with an exclusive PS3 theme, but we didn't need any updates to use it. You simply had to put in your Pineapple Express blu ray disc and find it in your games section on the XMB. Click on the PE icon and it will automatically download the theme. I'm actually using it right now, but it's not the greatest theme in the world.

I really want EXT3/4 capability for internal or external HDD.
formerly, I captured and then encoded to MP4 my many many old VHS sources.
some sources could within 4GB, some sources couldn't, but I don't want to more lower bitrate for my own permissible quality.

on some LBP last night for a while, then we switched to wanting to clown around on HOME. She hadn't been on HOME for a lil while so she had to re-download all the areas again after the latest HOME update!. After that we tried going to Central Plaza, the HDD icon would spin in the upper right of the screen, the Central Plaza bar at the bottom would fully load, screen would blur out like usual till it puts you else where. But then it froze up?. Used the guide button to quit and exit out. Rebooted HOME and started up in her Harbor Studio. The Mall worked, but the Red Bull, Uncharted, and Far Cry areas ALL froze. I then got on my 60 gig, in our game room (her 80 gig is in the bed room). My system worked with HOME flawlessly!.

I don't know what is up or anything, is anyone else on here possibly having this problem? maybe we played LBP so long her system was getting hot?... I don't know!

IF Burnout Paradise can do it in a patch i see no reason a firmware can't and would let the devs spend more time on the game itself then coding to scale.
