If I'm correct, this week Japan only has numbers for LBP for 3 days. 30k now if they can have for all 3 days maybe they can reach 90k. Maybe this can become one of those games that get better in sales as weeks go by instead worse. Hope for the best I guess. LBP was never suppose to save the PS3 in Japan. The only european game that will bring the PS3 to Wii/DS/PSP type sales is Gran Turismo 5. Also PS3 only sold 3,000 last week and this week it sold 30,000 units which is a 10x increase. The 360 had to have 3 exclusive games just to hit that mark. The PS3 only with one exclusive game and twice the price.

This is really going to be a word of mouth game here. The ads here in Japan make no sense whatsoever. The Japanese voice overs in the game are just as brilliant as the English ones.

They should just use the intros in the game and it would sell a hell of a lot better.

It will take some time. Just look at Grand Theft Auto and the sales. I remember when the first one released in Japan on the PS2 and nobody knew anything about it. But, word of mouth spread quickly and the following ones did pretty good.

Im also afraid that this is how its going to be worldwide, except for hard core gamers. Word will get around though.

Every time a game for 360 came out in japan, the Ps3 fanboys kept downplaying the numbers, saying they were pitiful and if the game released on Ps3, it would have sold a ton more. And kept promising that LBP would sell like 300,000-500,000 on it's first day available! (I must point out, that I tried to tell them that the game might not appeal to everyone, in masses like they were expecting)

I will admit that I am shocked, because I was expecting LBP to sell 200,000 easily on the first day!

I hope this is a wake up call to fanboys, that nothing is guaranteed! So you should lower your flags, and not expect things to work the way you want them to in times like these. The good thing though... at least we know Resistance 2 will have high sales!

Wait wait, it says it Excludes PS3 80GB Hardware Bundle.. there were 2 main LBP bundles, which each had 3 variants.
So, technically, it is more then 30000 on the first day.

Also, this seems about right for LBP in Japan.. it was one of those touch-and-go titles for them.. it was either going to work or not. And its done better then not working. It could also sell on the long run through word-of-mouth (which I expect) but when you're launching with GTA4 (which itself has proved more popular then I thought) then its the choice between a title which seems Sony like (GTA), and one which doesn't (LBP).

Though great news on the Sony front. Hardware sales should be up this week (at least past the Xbox360) and GTA selling more then 100% on he PS3 over its 360 counterpart is definitely good news.

Hopefully LBP does have long feet, Sony might be able to keep a goodish number of hardware sales till the big release of WKC.

is was the game held back over there as well. I say this because People have been releasing this game allover the USA on different days like for instance toys r us just got there yesterday and I saw 3 families buying this w/ a ps3. But game stop had it a day earlier and I saw it at target last weekend and Walmart sold it last week completely. This game is not even traditionally my kind of game but I have become an addict after only 8 hours of using the create function. This game deserves to be played, owned, admired. I cant say enough great things about it. To me it brings back memories of what gaming felt like 20 years ago with graphics from 20 years in the future. At least rent it and see for yourself. I am building a wicked skate park level, Sackboy Pro Skater, complete with burning log ramp jumps, AAAAAAAAAAH so much fun I cant concentrate on work.

ToV is a JRPG. Very big difference and not comparable to LBP.

JRPG games have always been very successful for the 360 in Japan, even going back to Blue Dragon.

LBp is considered a success in it's own right because of its uniqueness.

These sales are quite good. 30k in only a day. Other games outside of JRPG's don't sell 30k in a day. Given the type of game LBP is, I expect it to have very strong legs, and to top out 60- 85k once the week is through.

I've introduced 11 people to the game since I've had it and all of them are wanting to come over and play some more. Im having a LBP party tonight as well. It really is that good. I'd just give this game time to pick up steam. I don't feel the commercials do this game justice as many of my friends (before playing it on my PS3) were like... wtf is up with that game? whats the concept?. Sony should shoot to prove the concept of the game in their commercials than just showing gameplay, prove to them what the game does and get them aware. Purchased the game yesterday, took it home -had to shave and smoke a quick bowl, then ran out to meet a friend at the park. Gave the new game to one of my roomies, Lee. ( I have 5-- 2 of which are PS3 owners, 3 of them are 360 owners, 1 of those 3 360's are currently RROD)Lee listens to Slayer, is playing Dead Space and COD4, and was excited to get to play it. I come home 2 hours later, he has 4 other friends, 1 of which is playing with him, and they are ALL smiling and laughing, it was like a little Christmas or something. Then, through out the night more people came into my room to play and or watch. I have 3 friends at work that do not own PS3's and have already said they want to come over and play the game. Not to mention my other friends, they all have expressed interest, believe it or not.

Numbers in Japan don't mean SHI-- if you are actually fortunate enough to play this game and understand it ---controls are not that difficult- I will have to play more to see if it's that bothersome- but considering I have played older games on the Atari and NES that had not so great controls....well I am a little more understanding maybe.

PS: This is my second favorite game right now, after Fallout 3.

GTA and LBP were in 1st and 2nd place, respectively (I'm not separating the PS3 and 360 version there yet, and there's ANOTHER story there altogether when you DO I'll get to in a minute). The next one down the list did 15k, according to this. This means that someone was spinning THIS when submitting it to begin with. Also, this wasn't VGChartz per-se, but some fan of the site who posted this onto their forums. The original source is some kanji-filled Japanese site, so it could've been translated however it was.

Also, taking these into account, looking at the GTA4 things, the real story on this is the figures between the two versions:

PS3] Grand Theft Auto IV (Capcom) - 77k
[360] Grand Theft Auto IV (Capcom) - 27k

Besides that they got the publisher wrong (unless I'm missing something), is that the PS3 version just KILLED the 360 version, which should say something to Rockstar. The PS3 version more than tripled the 360 version's figures according to this. THAT'S the REAL story here.

And LBP is in second place behind something that murdered EVERYTHING! So stop complaining and stop spinning this to make it look good for the 360 here.

And stop bringing TOV into this since no one SAID that would flop to begin with.

now, they may be right, but when they've consistently been off on PS3 numbers by at LEAST 100,000 or so every month, i don't take anything they say seriously.

the GTA series is one of the few non-Japanese series that has a strong following in Japan. it's kind of a no-brainer that the sales would be high there. look at the JP sales of the previous entries in the series.

i guess the 360 fanboys have to try and find victories in even the smallest things, considering that this year has really been a banner year for PS3, and the quality of it's games:

MGS4 - amazing game
Pixel Junk Eden and Monsters - amazing PSN titles
Wipeout HD - amazing PSN title
SOCOM: Confrontation - really good game, but server issues are holding it back
Motorstorm 2 - still one of the best offroad racing games around, and a major improvement over the original
Little Big Planet - one of the best games this generation, and this year
Resistance 2 - bigger, better, and more badass than the first in EVERY way

i mean, what did the 360 have this year that even COMPARED to the titles it got LAST year (ie, Halo 3, Eternal Sonata, Bioshock, Mass Effect, it was a banner year for the 360 last year, this year has been so-so)?

Too Human - had potential, ultimately disappointing
Fable 2 - i own it, and i enjoy it, but i haven't touched it since i bought Fallout 3 on my PS3
Gears of War 2 - will no doubt be excellent.
Banjo Kazooie: NAB - looks neat, i'll most certainly check it out. hopefully this will put RARE back on form.

Gears 2 is the only sure bet in terms of quality, and Fable 2 is nice, if not short (for an RPG, that is. i don't know many full fledged RPGs that can be beaten in 10 hours. i mean, i've already sunk over 22 hours into FFXII and Rogue Galaxy, and i'm not even halfway DONE with those games yet. Fable 2 is more of an action/adventure game, with RPG elements, Mass Effect is more of an RPG, even though it has a 3PS battle system).

i'm definitely hoping next year is better for the 360, and more of a repeat of 2007's titles. next year for the PS3 is most CERTAINLY a step up, with GT5, Killzone 2, inFamous, Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles (US; JP comes out this year), Twisted Metal PS3 (a possibility), and GOW 3, all hitting in the calendar year of 2009.

i'm also hoping that Little Big Planet does well on a worldwide basis, as it's a game that deserves every accolade it's been getting.

just because a game doesn't sell 1 million on day one doesn't mean the quality of the game itself is bad.

look at Ico. that game is brilliant, and widely regarded as one of the best games of all time, and most certainly one of the best of the PS2 generation. it barely sold 160,000 WORLDWIDE. instead of pulling the plug like most other publishers would have, Sony encouraged Team Ico to work on their next game, which was Shadow of the Colossus. that game went on to sell over 500,000 and land in Sony's Greatest Hit's line. Colossus is ALSO considered one of the best games of all time, and one of the best PS2 games of all time.

sales # =/= quality.

just look at Kane and Lynch and 50 Cent: Bulletbroof. both million plus sellers. both TERRIBLE GAMES. but hey, judging by how some of you equate sales numbers with quality, i'm sure some of you guys have those two games in your collection, amiright?
