Sony responds to adverse firmware 2.40 effects

From joystiq:

"As we've already reported, SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.

Joystiq contacted SCEA for comment on the situation as was told by PR director Patrick Seybold that they are aware of the message thread and that they are "looking into it right now and will work with those customers directly to address any issues they may be experiencing." This comment came before the update was removed from Sony's servers. We're seeking further comment and will update as we receive it."

wow how can a problem like this happen?? im sure ppl couldve waited a couple more days. i feel sorry for whoever has to reformat

donator5783d ago

Wow people actually hooked up the HD and formatted it? Couldn't they just wait to see if there would be a fix

PimpHandHappy5783d ago

i dont know but you never know how ppl are using the PS3

I have had no issue with it at all. Not a one and i have been using it for around 6-7 hours

TayTayShaniqua5783d ago

Nothing happened:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

This is nothing more than the same pathetic Xbox fans who sit around all day on the official Playstation forums making up fake stories about PS3s dying. Been going on non-stop ever since the RRoD started becoming a major news item. Low post count, disappear after just a few posts screaming about alleged PS3 problems, sometimes making wild claims about problems being worse than the RRoD, etc.

testerg355783d ago

Somehow I actually think you believe what you're saying.

yaboi5783d ago

wow only like one person said there was something going wrong

Polluted5783d ago

Well I haven't had any problems with it either, but I think it's safe to say that "something" is wrong. They wouldn't pull the update if there wasn't some sort of problem with it. Fanboys can make stuff up all they want, unless there's an actual problem Sony woud not have pulled 2.4 off the servers.

OOG5783d ago

stop being a fanboy.....

you actually think Sony would take the update down if there wasnt a reason....give me a break

FantasyStar5783d ago (Edited 5783d ago )

I don't think that's what he's trying to say. There is a problem with FW 2.4 and that's why Sony pulled the 2.4 FW from the servers as per damage control procedures. What Taytay was really trying to say is that the problem isn't as widespread or as catastrophic as people are making it out to be.

As much as it pains our human race; there are degenerates that sign up for a forum solely to spread FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt) and nothing more: Just to get a kick out of the community hysteria. I'm sure you can understand that fanboys would fit such a profile or people looking to start trouble just for the fun of it.

My PS3 works fine. I have the launch 60GB and downloaded the FW 2.4 yesterday July 1st. No problems here.

shelbygt335783d ago

Well, I'm not a member of neogaf, but if I was I would have had to post "Yes". See, there are those of us out there who got "bricked". And it stinks. Luckily, Sony is replacing mine gratis since it's less than a year old.

Psycopod_Eng5782d ago

i just got home turned on my ps3 and low and behold asked me to reformat because it dooesnt recognise its harddrive, i declined and turned off the ps3 and rebooted it a few mins later everything seems fine and i breath a sigh of relief only to discover all my saves and downloaded games music photos and videos have *poof* vanished, the system works fine just back to square 1, gutted! and im not an xbox fanboy either so leave it out.

They aren't going to give more. We are talking about a company that has rereleased an 13 year old game at least 5 times.

Doesn't seem to be that bad of a month. Got a bit of something for everyone.

Please do not support braid anniversary edition. Don't support Phil phish, he's a very despicable person, a a cry baby.

One example

Tacoboto1d 5h ago

Wrong developer. Phil Phish was the developer behind Fez.

Jonathan Blow was behind Braid. If you're gonna cancel culture, don't take down the wrong indie...

CrimsonWing6920h ago

Man, I don’t know why, but it also irks me when people try to tell others what to do. Fez was an awesome game, I couldn’t care less if the dev was a douche.

This is just extra cringe since the person actually doesn’t know what they’re talking about 🤦‍♂️

remixx11612h ago

Welcome to the internet crimson

shinoff21835h ago(Edited 5h ago)

I wasn't cancel culturing shit. Phil phish is a complete douche. Did you bother to watch the video? Probably not.

I was wrong but call me cancel culture is just plain dumb also

Also crimson.

As you I'm human and we make mistakes. That was a mistake I mixed the games up. Shit happens. So go cringe yourself

Honest mistake, if you can watch that video and support the guy. Then I guess your in the same camp

Tacoboto4h ago

You were wrong and that's that. Don't be so angry.

And yeah, that is a case example of cancel culture. It was a dozen years ago, he's apologized since, had Japanese developers rationalize with his remark, barely has done anything in the industry since Fez, and yet here you are, not even remembering the one game he made...

TimeShift - FPS Game Standing the Test of Time

TimeShift had a fairly muted launch in 2007, and while it doesn't rewrite the FPS rulebook it does offer an enjoyable campaign even now.

gurp1d 15h ago

I played this on PC when it came out, it was actually good

Astrokis1d 13h ago

Same! For its time I liked it a lot

PrinceOfAnger1d 13h ago

It's a good game need a new one.

CantThinkOfAUsername1d 12h ago

Never heard of this game until someone mentioned it here last year. Played it and it basically represents most games from the PS3/Xbox360 era—good graphics, amazing physics, and extremely fun gameplay (time powers rock), but barely any story, weird pacing, and at least one annoying AF level. I finished Prototype last week and the same applies, except Strike Teams. Fuck Strike Teams.

isarai1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

I miss when ganes used to experiment with physics and world interaction

RiseNShine16h ago

This game actually works on a decent phone using Winlator 6.1, amazing times.
