Kojima: "I Gotta Start Thinking About Metal Gear Solid 5"

PSX Extreme says:

At this point, Metal Gear Solid 5 will probably happen (even if it is without Snake). Franchise creator Hideo Kojima has now said it himself during an interview with Famitsu:

"I gotta start thinking about MGS5... Even though, well, Snake's story ends in MGS4. ...About MGS5, that would be something that Kojima Productions would have to make, I think."

Well I want him to be in charge again. Metal Gear won't be the same without Hideo Kojima.

meepmoopmeep5777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

the KP team will be fine. they've been working on the MGS Saga for a long time, they just won't have him as a director so the quality might go down, or it might stay on par with MGS4, who knows.

it'll be hard to top the original story, hopefully it'll be a prequel about Raiden or the Big Boss & Zero days.

I just hope Kojima pops in from time to time to see how it's coming along.

Tommy Vercetti5777d ago

I agree. Metal Gear Solid will always be a great series. Does anybody else want to know what else Kojima could create?

thor5777d ago

I think we can let ol' Kojima have a rest after this one - I don't think he really deserves any more death threats D:

Dark General5777d ago

To take a rest. He just hammered out a great game wrapping up the entire saga of solid snake. I think it's time for him to move on to a different franchise for the time being. Let he creative legs have a stretch and a nice jog.

Megaton5777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

I wouldn't want anyone else to do it.

I have no idea what they could do if they're moving forward beyond MGS4. It pretty much closed the book on all past storylines. I suppose they could move forward with Raiden, or do a prequel about what he was doing between MGS2 and MGS4, but I still don't think he's popular enough for them to justify giving him his own game again, especially after the backlash from MGS2. Personally, I'd rather play as The Boss if they went down a prequel route.

On the other hand, given the fact that MGS4 far exceeded my expectations and really ended the series properly, I wouldn't mind if they never made another one ever again. Going out on top after MGS4 would be pretty tough.

thesummerofgeorge5777d ago

I'm glad he's gonna be involved with MGS5, if it weren't for him pushing the limits, MGS4 wouldn't have been the same, if you've seen the "making of" bluray you know what I mean. He's a visionary.

meepmoopmeep5777d ago

yeah, i'd like to see what other cool new stuff he has in that twisted head of his

Jack Meahoffer5777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

And honestly this is starting to be like JayZ or Michael Jordan retiring here. How many "final game in the series" will there be wasn't MSG2 supposed to be the end originally?

I just finished MSG4 last night and there is no question its one of the best games ever made. Presentation is amazing. Loved the story and I'm a noob haven't played since Metal Gear on NES. I wouldn't want to see them just milk the series. If Kojima-san isn't right at the middle of development its auto fail. At some point everything turns into Police Academy 5. Just beating a dead horse 95% of the original people gone.

I'd like to see maybe a reboot. Remake the original or something. I don't know. I thought the ending was amazing and just don't want to see it diminished in some way. Even the Raiden thing people suggest I don't see how it could be done in a good way that still honors MSG4.

NO_PUDding5777d ago

Raiden had a lot of work done to him, to appear redeemable.

[spoilers?]

I think we should play him in his epiphanic journey between 2009 and 2014. I would love to learn scouting techniques from Alaskan Tribes, and find soemthign for Matka Pluku, and become ultimately an awesome Irving swining ninja.

Palodios5777d ago

Well, first of all, I think metal gear solid should end at 4..... Hold on a minute I'm not done. I think just as metal gear turned to metal gear solid, mgs should become something else. Snake, is, was, and will always be the man. But we all know that when he's in the shape he's in, well, we don't want to see him like that. I don't know what could be done for more prequels, but I'd personally like to see the series move forward, not back. It looks like Raiden and Johnny are being made into the new heroes, and quite frankly, I wouldn't mind a game being made about either of them after the ridiculous turnaround that both of them made by the end of the game.

BkaY5777d ago

KOJIMA FTW............

KO..JI..MA KO..JI..MA KO..JI..MA

liquidsnake5777d ago

I think they should stop it right here and never make a MGS game again. That's only couse Im a pure hardcore MGS fan and would hate to see a game without Solid Snake or any other MG/MGS character involved in a new game.

All I whan't now is remakes of MG and MG2 with the MGS4 engine and voice acting!

to play as Raiden during his 10 year or so disappearance.

EDIT: apparently 5 years. And yes I played the games. lol the story isn't exactly easy to keep total track of.

BananaSlug5777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

he was gone for 5 years

[edit response] But Raiden showed up in mgs2 which is after mgs1. and you know that mgs4 is 9 years after mgs1. =)

kewlkat0075777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

....

Edit: Good cause I didn't even know who Raiden was till I played this game.

OgTheClever5777d ago

Yeah, shopping for Sunny at Area 51.

Voozi5777d ago

Yea I would love a metal gear game based off the time between MGS2 and MGS4 revolved around Raiden's story. Since I mean the story after MGS4 is pretty much wrapped up and I cant see them further extending it out without deteriorating the quality of such a story line.

AllroundGamer5777d ago (Edited 5777d ago )

why? can't you imagine Johnny and Meryl on their honeymoon? on a cruise ship? with a bomb on it? and the ship can't go too slow otherwise it will explode?... whoa major flashback ;)

fenderputty5777d ago

That's what I'm saying man. What's left in the realm of MGS to make a game about. Nothing after the game would really work. MGS3 served as a prequel to the previous games. The only real blank spot left would be the time spent between two and four.

Kojima is such a genius, I hate that he constantly is tied to doing Metal Gear projects. He can make great stand alone masterpieces - ANY HK fan or gaming fan in general owes it to themselves to play Snatcher or Policenauts.

I love Metal Gear and have followed it for 15 years(I've played the series in order of release since MG1). But please, it has been concluded wonderfully in MGS4. Let it end.

iamtehpwn5777d ago

Wait till PS4 to do another Metal Gear.
I want to see test Kojima with a new IP, personally

Superfragilistic5777d ago

Yeah I agree MGS4 was a beautiful conclusion to an outstanding series, but if he is such a genius I want him to prove it with a masterful new IP out of the shadow of MGS.

Sitris5777d ago

common i mean MGS4 is amazing but unless there gonna blow that game outa the water with MGS5 this gen then i want a new ip that will shake the ps3 in a new direction, still with that Kojima touch though!

PSN ID: Sitris

Commandant5777d ago

MGS3 with MGS4 style, that game would sell unholy amounts...

ThatCanadianGuy5777d ago

He even said on the blu-ray disc thingy, that he originally intended to release MGS3 on PS3,but it was taking to long to launch,so he put it on PS2

I'd love to see Snake eater on PS3
Was the best PS2 game i've ever played.
Plus..I'l like to play as Big Boss again..

DiabloRising5777d ago

Make it a new universe, please. Don't drag out the same storyline. Leave it alone.

Give me a new world to explore!

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia12h ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator11h ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies1d 18h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken1d 13h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing692d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker2d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing692d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt1d 16h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken1d 13h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
