Forbidden_Darkness5784d ago

are these like rentals or actually u buy them and keep them?

Fishy Fingers5784d ago

Rentals primarily I imagine, maybe with the opportunity to buy certain videos, perhaps TV shows

Dark General5784d ago

Because Rentals suck ass. Also i noticed in the .pdf file listed under Major titles for fiscal year 08 it listed "Shirokishi Monogatari" better known as White Knight Story/Chronicals. If so that means we could be seeing it later this year or very early next year which is good news. IF what was in the .pdf was real.

Euphrate5784d ago

SO IS WHITE KNIGHT CHRONICLES!

I suck, so tell me if i'm wrong.

resistance1005784d ago

@Euphrate

We knew that about Killzone 2, it has a Feb 09 release.

Fiscal Year 2008 is from Apr 1st 08 to Mar 31st 09

Fishy Fingers5784d ago (Edited 5784d ago )

Killzone confirmed Feb 2009.
WKC, hopefully, this side of Christmas.

Wolf26pack5784d ago

Why you might ask? Well because of Piracy. If they have the file on there servers and you are only able to view it when you pay for it and then after so many days/hours/mins it is wiped off your drive then you have no control. This is all about the Content Makers having complete control over their content. You abuse your power they can simply deny you access to their service. Every Game should/Will read "We Have the Right to Refuse Service at any time"

Mark My Words This is Where the Future is going...

marinelife95784d ago

I think I need a bigger hard drive

pwnsause5784d ago

you can buy and rent movies from the store

zane_78495783d ago

So all these new features on PSN lately (video store, trophies, gamer levels, gamers cards, in-game XMB, custom soundtracks) make it pretty much on par with xbox live. Plus Home and the now rumored weather radar and news system, and youtube video recording of any gameplay at any time give it it's own distinct features. So all that is fantastic and I have to give it up to Sony for "fixing" everything they needed to (well except backward compatibility) on PSN and more.

Now how about they get started on the PSP? Fix the music player so you can categorize the files easier and give it a proper application on the PC. Throw a hard drive standard on new PSP's 10gig would be a healthy start. Release the GPS, camera, tv tuner here in the states. Tie all psp users into there PSN accounts and implement the trophy systems into psp games as well. Sony really has the potential to turn both these systems into absolute feature/entertainment powerhouses, it just needs to treat the psp with the same importance it has been treating the PS3 lately.

I know Sony is probably getting annoyed by leaked pics and videos

hi-tower5784d ago

Maybe...but leaks have always been used as a form of guerilla advertising, a few carefully released pictures sparks interest and keeps people interested until the actual release.

It also starts a debate, 'I want this...', 'I hope it has this...' it's a very clever way of gauging public opinion.

With the recent delays PS3 users have had to suffer this is also a way of rewarding the faithful, 'Yes you have been kept waiting, but look at what you can have...soon'

DolphGB5784d ago

The title of the story is sensationalist and incorrect.

This presentation is public domain and available from Sony Global's website as part of the transparency required by a public company.

You'll find all their business presentations there - http://www.sony.net/SonyInf...

So not a leak at all... but all the news is interesting, of course.

Lalander5784d ago

I can't find that information in the document?
The first picture on page 9 only shows a picture of a PSP running Lair through remote play?

kanedaakira5784d ago

Yeh - Nowhere in that PDF does it state that all PS3 games will be available through remote play - This needs correcting...

All it does is show a picture of Lair being played on a PSP.

Still....Nice find and good info on the video store.

Mr_Bun5784d ago

if you could play any ps3 game on psp, I think I might have to pick up a psp!

shelbygt335783d ago

While I agree this would be very neat, the difference in the PSP's button layout from the PS3's would make many games awkward or very difficult to play through remote play. Forget any SIXAXIS control.

GarandShooter5783d ago

The PSP needs dual joysticks and shoulder buttons to make this a reality.

LJWooly5784d ago (Edited 5784d ago )

Well, it looks cool.

Although, I don't want them to start chasing this downloading of upscaled movies, that's a Live thing, and to be honest, it can stay a Live thing.

Fishy Fingers5784d ago

A "live thing"? Video downloads are not new and certainly not a MS/360 invention, others did if first and still do it better.

While Id rather take a BR movie, Id rather have upscaled downloads than standard def downloads.

LJWooly5784d ago (Edited 5784d ago )

I wasn't trying to imply that it's an MS/360 invention, believe it or not, I'm not stupid. And, I know the video rental service on 360 sucks, I tried it.

What I'm saying is that that's the direction Live decided to go in, and I wouldn't like for Sony to follow suit.

LeonSKennedy4Life5784d ago

How about the OPTION of SD or HD?

Meresin5784d ago

If the rentals aren't in at least 720p, they're not worth money.

Fishy Fingers5784d ago (Edited 5784d ago )

Wow there, no need to be so defensive o_O believe it or not I wasnt calling you stupid.

My point is that it isn't viable to download uncompressed HD simply dude to the file size. Upscaled drastically reduces the size while only "marginally" reducing the quality.

With the current internet infrastructure it's really the best quality these companies can offer you.

Like I said, Id rather take a BR, but the upscalled DL's don't look bad, they're still much better than a standard DVD.

LJWooly5784d ago

My post wasn't meant to sound defensive.

That's the problem with the internet, you can read the comments, but you only hear them as the little voice in your head reads them out to you. If you want to hear it as I meant for it to be said, read it in a "happy" voice, without the intention of being defensive.

Jack Meahoffer5784d ago (Edited 5784d ago )

How does the 360 video store suck? Works great for me. Its a nice service in comparison to other VOD services I've used like Tivo Unbox and Comcast On Demand. Maybe your expectations are too high or you haven't had much experience with VOD.

I mean what "direction" would you want Sony to go down? Going strictly HD will make download speeds very long. Permeant ownership of movies will just fill up peoples HDD's for no reason. Sony will do rentals just like XBL. Like other commenters said you'll probably be able to buy shorter content like TV shows (just like XBL) but I wouldn't expect something majorally different.

As a gamer and a movie lover this is great for me because I'll have yet another option for renting a movie when its late at night I'm baked or drunk or just plain tired. I'm assuming they'll start with Sony properties mainly but thats fine. Sony has a lot of great movies in their catalog. Should be good but if you don't like XBL video store I don't see the PS3 version blowing it out of the water right out the gate so you might want to temper your expectations.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Knightofelemia10h ago

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

TheColbertinator9h ago

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.

Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies1d 15h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken1d 11h ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing692d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker2d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing692d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos1d 23h ago (Edited 1d 23h ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt1d 14h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken1d 11h ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.
