IGN Reviews Haze - 4.5/10

Haze was touted as a great PS3 exclusive from a developer well versed in first-person shooter mechanics. While Free Radical does have a solid pedigree, Haze does not live up to the company's reputation thanks to a horrible plot, weak gameplay mechanics and visuals that are truly underwhelming. While playing with friends is enjoyable, not even those are enough to bring this lackluster title around.

Sorry but I fail to see how this game can get a 4 in graphics while GTA gets a 10. You can just add reading IGN to the list of things I wont be doing while playing Haze. They complain Nectar makes it too easy and then they complain it gets taken away. *Head pops*

I mean, dont you think that score is a little low, even if the game is mediocre. I've played the demo and its better than that. It would have to be downright dreadful to get that score.

Thankfully the demo had already made my mind up to put this with the shovelware, this just confirms it.

Atleast the PS3 has FPS games coming this year. I'm renting this one for the coop online. COOP on anything is worth a rent and this is one review in reality this could be a 7 from other sites because some sites already gave Haze a 9 and 8.

this title was getting very lukewarm previews ages ago and with all the extra development time it didnt seem to work out.it was probably doomed from the early stages.no excuse for poor graphics on a ps3 exclusive at this point.that said i've seen some bad games get better than a 4.5, so maybe ubisoft didnt grant ign that exclusive it wanted for the review..i will personally wait for a few more reviews to come down

GTA got a 10 in graphics because for a game that has so much going on, it's damned impressive...The Euphoria engine is impressive, the lighting, the detail on the buildings...Take up a helicopter and you can see every single part of Liberty City...AND they all look great...That's reason enough.

Then you have the fact that it's a different reviewer for each game and subjectivity comes into play, it's very easy to see how one got a 10 and Haze got a 4.5.

ANYWAY, yep, this is exactly the kind of review I was expecting after that terrible demo.

Granted this game is far from a 10 (based on the demo), but come on IGN gives GTA IV 10s, and Mario Galaxy 9.5 the graphics in Mario Galaxy sucks donkey balls. Haze has all the next gen graphics features in this game, Specular mapping, Bumping mapping, normal mapping etc. I can tell IGN has no technical background developing games. If haze Story sucks well thats a matter of personal opinion, but when you give a game a 4 means unplayable, with frame rate issues, game doesn't install on hard drive, six axes controller only, game freezes. GTA IV is a great game but has most of these flaws and then some. IGN you suck Haze deserves at least 8.0 just on the technical side.

Why did the devs even bother delaying the game if they weren't going to fix anything or make it better. I just don't understand. I mean they should have just released it last Christmas, it couldn't have been much worse. You can't really get worse than a 4.5, you have to actually TRY to get lower than a 4.5. Its funny from the outset of this console war it seems like x360 fans seems to hold on to game rankings like a religion which is pretty pathetic.

Game reviews should only be use as a pointer of games that you might want to check out. It should not in any way decide for you what game to buy. Take reviews as they are which are just an experience game journalist opinion about a game. In the end make sure that you are the one that decides what to buy and not the reviewer.

Seeing people play with game rankings is just sad. Game metacritic ranking it seems is used by some people to make them feel better and to validate their purchase of a console or a game which is truly pathetic. Its shouldn't be this way. Some of you people need to grow up.

When I read a review I want to know what is it mainly about & if there are any fundamenatl problems w/ it like controls. Do they suck? Are there any weird/annoying glitches?
Is the voice acting what anyone w/ any common sense consider terrible or ridiculous [ex:old res evil games]?
What about replay value?

that is actually true to some extent if free radical had not released any info on nector/co-op and released a demo where your not using it and then in the game its all of a sudden people might have been pleasantly surprised instead of angry after countless delays

sidenote: i defended haze quite a bit all the features looked good on paper, but after the demo i was underwhelmed and have not really commented on haze in any topics and let others draw their own conclusions. Also to anyone who is undecided just rent the game and see if you like it. IMO i think its generic and i think that a 7 would have been more fair.

hate to say it but it seems Free Rad bit off more than they could chew. With co-op, and everything else they were cramming into the game they didn't have the appropriate time to polish, tweak, and refine what truly matters, THE Game itself.

I'll still get it from Gamefly just to pass a week before Ninja Gaiden II drops [sure buy] but how much of Haze I play is beyond me. I'm so bored I bought CoD2 for $10 last night just to pass some time. That is if I can even bring myself to tackle Veteran. Back to Haze. To say the very least I was very unimpressed with the demo and if this review holds any truth this might be the first game in well over two years that I don't actually finish that isn't an RPG.

With awful reviews, and probably awful sales on the horizon. As if PS3 software wasn't selling bad enough... Can anyone now say confirmed for the 360? They're going to have to get their money back in some way. I'd imagine trying to scape the game together for a 360 release might be inevitable...

I am just as much a PS3 fan as the next guy...but we need to sit back, and take this like men...

Haze flopped...its more or less official now...while I found the demo 'ok', I hoped that because it was old and didn't show much that much had changed since...it is quite obvious that that is not the case...

IGN gave the PS3 version of GTAIV as the 'obviously' superior version...Haze didn't ammount to much according to them...its not their fault...It became quite obvious that there were very big problems with time and budgets when it was confirmed to be 574p or whatever...when you have Guerilla confirmed KZ2 at a native 720p @ 30fps fixed...and Haze, which looks horrendous compared to KZ2 altogether, running at several hundred thousand pixels per screen less...something is up...

Seriously...there is nothing that can be done now...the flames are already lit, so just let it go...just be happy about one little thing that this means...Free Radical is a world class developer...and apparently they can make a game just as bad as turning point, or Lair...that has to mean things can be reversed, in which Guerilla is on track to possibly make one of the best shooters ever made...it definitely looks that way so far...

i have to say i'm disappointed with the demo, but to get a poor rating from IGN is a bit of a pisstake. the graphics are alright - not great i'll grant you but a 4 rating? no way. as to gameplay, its FPS - it does exactly what it says on the tin. it may not innovate or even revitalise the genre but its still an alright FPS.

from the demo haze is not worth more than a "good" rating in the press, but anything less than 6/7 out of 10 is just bs.

can i also point out how glitchy/buggy GTA was? since its being mentioned so much. yet that came out with a perfect 10. it'd just be nice to get some consistancy out these websites. i'm sorry to say (because normally they are quite good) IGN have dropped the ball on this.

MGS4 won't fall into the same hole, I'm not excited for either title but I can tell you in all honesty that Konami knows what they're doing and I have confidence in them as a developer.

As for the Haze review, I'm never happy when a game tanks, but to all the fanboys who couldn't shut up about this exclusive, you know the same ones that have no lives and spend more time flaming on message boards than they do playing games: I told you so.

You should look into Little Big Planet, that'd definitely be the game for you! Co-Op/Level Creation...I'm personally not that excited for it (the characters are really floaty when they jump) but alot of people are excited for it.

I think it has really great potential, and I'm hoping it delivers on it's promises :-)

Why would anyone think that this is Free Radicals fault? Haze was in development for 3 years!! Software developers are some of the brightest minds on the planet, most work ridiculious hours day in day out. The blame should be put on Sony, 1) for lack of dev support 2) for letting their blu-ray ambitions get in the way of building a "dev friendly" machine (i.e. Cell). People act like poor running games on ps3 is something new. Haze is just the newest lamb to be sacrificed for sony's brilliant blu-ray fisting.

Why you ask? Because all the PS3 fanboys constantly troll 360 fanboys for hyping there games so its pay back really. I as a neutral who owns both consoles ignore all the hype from both camps and make my own judgement on how good the games are going to be.

If the game was on the 360 will it stop the Bad Voice Acting? No.
Will it stop the uninspired level designs? No.
Will it stop the unbalanced use of Nectar? No.

And other developers like Polyphony Digital, Insomniac and Naughty Dog who has no problems making PS3 games. Look at GT5P, 1280x1080 resolution running at 60 frames per second with hundreds, if not millions of polygons all over the screen. With Haze barely scraping 30fps and tons of low-rex textures. It's FR fault on that.

And if you look into the interviews with Free Radical, they were the ones that didn't "want" Sony's help. Saying stuff like "Sony was there, but we didn't need them"

lets see resistance was good but once i finnished it i was bored of it. motorstorm well what can i say flatout was way more fun. ngs was ok but i got bored of it easily. folklore a gain not bad but not worth £40. warhawk is a battlefield clone (a bad one at that) and besides battlefield is much better. ut3 coming to pc and 360. uncharted good game but way to short and easy as hell. ratchet ? well if ur into running about smashing boxes and collecting nuts and bolts go ahead but no thanx.

oh and on a side note why is it all ps3 fans hype up a game b4 release but then when is released and it turns out to be crap they say they dont care about that game lol.

Just gonna enjoy Ninja Gaiden II, Gears of Wars 2, Mercs, Prototype and Grid. By the time the PS3 drops in price and gets a slimmer treatment I might consider it again!

This is silly, seriously! I am simply stating my opinion! The fact that you guys are bummed by it proofs the other side of things. You throw a hissy fit at any post that says otherwise how you would have loved and liked to see the reality.

My reality is that I do own both systems but first and foremost I am a Playstation fan! PS2 has served me great if not better than any other system on this planet. I was sceptical at MS system first but eventually it was the great games that won me over. Deep down inside I did want my penchant for the PS3 to deliver the better games. Because SONY promised it would! Every game in 1080P! Blah blah blah...

And yet every port (with 2 exceptions) turns out better on the Xbox 360. All my friends own an Xbox 360 and they know I am a PS3 fanboy! Believe me they know! I get the full mindcheck from them every single time a game is released on the PS3 that doesn't live up to the hype. I stop caring what anybody thinks but at some point you simply want your system to at least show what it is made of to your friends.

When the PS3 version of GTA IV shortly enjoyed some proof that it was the better version I was elated until I got the Xbox version and saw how sharp the game displayed topping the PS3 with even a better framerate.

In all honesty I may not sell my PS3... I am just a pissed bloke who can't seem to get his money worth!

It is strange how deeply rooted this fanboy love goes... I had much more fun with the Xbox 360 even though I still want the PS 3 to win! Makes no sense ha?

But at least now I am starting to see that the reality is to look at the system that can bring all the excitement and meet your expectation. And right now it simpy is NOT the PS3!

well if you really do own a ps3 then you must definitely own a 60gig version. if you really want to sell it then there is a lot of demand for the 60gig version and i doubt you lose a lot of money on it. you will probably have lost 10 percent which is unheard of for a one year piece of electrical item let alone a secondhand games console.

the demo was pretty bad.. I was looking forward to the game until i played the demo. I think everyone can agree on that.. The controls sucked, nectar was confusing to use and it sucked, the voice acting was some of the worse i have seen in a game in a long time, and the gun fights were horrible. Over all the demo was bad.. i dont know why they would release that crap. a demo is suppose to spark your interest like the uncharted or ratchet demo did for me.

i remember i watched a video for haze ages ago and it looked kinda cool but straight after i watched a video for far-cry 2

Many people were excited about haze because the premise behind the game sounded cool, same as with lair. While I can agree that the gameplay feels a tad generic and the overall plot is lame, I would strongly disagree with IGN giving this game a 4.5 in graphics. Free radical made a stinker. I thought the demo was a pile of sh1t to be honest. This confirms my suspicions somewhat for the full game. Its great how everyone was saying wait for ign wait for ign, and now that ign gave it a bad score people are trying to say the reviewer is a no name biased? You should have saw this coming from a mile away, and moved out of the way instead of being hit in the face by a steaming pile.

Just because it's an exclusive doesn't mean you have to defend the game. There are plenty of exclusives, and non exclusives on the way that are going to be taking up your time so this is really no big deal.

Agreed. The fact that it is an exclusive doesn't make it inherently good. A mediocre game is a mediocre game, and the fact that it's a shooter actually makes it look worse than it is because there are a few really good ones out now, and a few really good ones coming.

I think that's probably why the reviewers are being so harsh with Haze. It's not a bad game, but it doesn't compare particularly well with CoD4 or even Resistance, and Resistance was a release title on the PS3. It's decent, though, and really doesn't warrant this degree of negativity.

I'd probably rate the game a 6.5 myself, but then, I've only played the demo, and I'm a graphics whore. 576p with no AA at 30fps doesn't impress me, so it's something I'm passing on. It's a cool concept, though, and I'm sure a lot of people will be perfectly happy with the game.

Halo 3 can kinda be excused because it was a release title, and everyone was excited by the graphics the 360 could manage at the time. It isn't exactly impressive by today's standards, but it still looks pretty decent.

What amuses the hell out of me is that GTA IV had all the same graphical problems that IGN claims Haze has, yet they gave GTA IV a 10. That just wreaks of pandering to Rockstar, and frankly, it's disgusting. I won't argue that it isn't a problem with Haze, but the fact that Rockstar got away with the same crap enrages me.

I think that's part of the reason it's being judged so harshly. CoD4 is another big reason, I think. If this had been a release title, it might even have received a lot of positive feedback. However, in today's environment, it is being compared to some exceptionally good games, and as such, it looks horrible in its overall mediocrity.

It's still a decent game. I'm sure a lot of people will really like it. It has a nice feel to the controls, in my opinion, and I enjoyed the Nectar mechanic.

I don't know, I played the demos for both and Turok was abysmal. It was so bad, it felt like a grind to finish it. In my honest opinion, I think Turok was worst than Haze. Obviously IGN does not agree with what I think, but I don't think Haze deserves a 4.5, especially when you compare it to a 7.3 Turok.

Oh and Conflict: Denied Ops got 4. I had much more fun with Haze than Conflict: Denied Ops.

I have a funny feeling that it was probably designed for the 360 first, honestly. It looks like a cross-platform game graphically, especially when you compare it to Resistance. That game had very little aliasing even on my 61" DLP HDTV, and when I tried the Haze demo immediately after spending a few hours with Resistance, I was amazed by how bad it looked by comparison.

I'm kinda puzzled why Sony gave them a check to keep this exclusive, honestly. The finished product just isn't up to par with their other exclusives.

I've not played the full game so I can't tell if its justified, but I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed the demo despite its 'rough edges' and had expected around a 7.5 based on what I saw.

Seeing as how I often disagree with the mainstream, and certainly don't base my opinion on reviewers (my favorite games are often hammered, whilst utter trash is routinely praised), I'm likely to try this one for myself, despite this review.
I can understand people being very wary though - its not graphically excellent, and its got a bunch of flaws. But I've played and enjoyed quite a few 'flawed games' in the last 6 months , so I'll give this a try too. I just need to 'manage my expectations' a bit!

I didn't like this review it seems they want the moral highground over the drug taking.

I might be looking too deep into this but the Jarheads on the drug fantasy was a bad thing but in this game I believe its a good idea.

Mantel feed propaganda to the people and its soldiers to fight the good fight and they give them nectar and the special suits to make it feel like a game and to distance themselves from what the are actually doing.

What has 7 months and 3 delays done to improve this game? A few of us people thought this demo might of been of an older version (People reporting the graphics being very average when they went to E3 or whatever last year), and yet it was the actual end product of the game.

Dont get me wrong the PS3 is an amazing console with all its features and capabilities and on paper it should be owning the 360 as regards games with its set-up but the fact is it isnt.........

Sony have just made it to hard to develop for and so even exclusives - titles that havent had to be dumbed down from the 360 versions (tongue firmly in cheek) are struggling to use its awesome power - thus Haze.

Killzone2 and MGS4 should be decent though because they have been in development for along time thus giving the devs time to harness the power of PS3.

Also AAA on 360 = Halo3,Ikaruga,Gears etc

True Potential AAA coming soon = Gaiden2,Gears2,Fable2.
Maybe Alan Wake,Banjo3,Halo wars and Too Human will be decent 8/10's

This game isn't gonna sell. This game definitely is going Multi.
Not that I care, I played the demo. These guys are trying so make halo. I remember what they said about halo befor it release..Well Well. Halo killer. I haven't seen that, am not sure I ever will.

From the first time I saw the game, I knew they were copying..too sad..Maybe it could have been something since Free Radical is great developers.

I agree with you 100%, this game will likely go mulitplatform. It seems that it is getting harder and harder to keep games exclusive to a certain console. Being exclusive really only helps the console not the game developer itself. I wish more developers were like Insomniac who seem to care more about making quality games for the fans/community than making money.

I have played through the 3 first levels of the game now.
Must say it is quite a letdown. Bad AI, strange physics, lousy voiceacting and mediocre graphics.
Had bigger hopes, since the game came from the team behind the brilliant Timesplitters series.

took 4 years to make, and remember that is a solid studio behind it. So yes, PS3 development unless your Insomniac or Naughty Dog takes a long time. Honestly it seems so far that only those 2 studios and Game Republic with Folklore which is so underrated have managed to bring gold to the PS3. These devs just have that machine on lock down. If more developers could make games like this then the PS3 would be seen as amazing, I'm sorry but after seeing Uncharted it shows me that it's the talent and technical know how of a team that proves a consoles worth, sadly not many are up to the task on the PS3.

Sorry, but like MANY people have said here, I stopped taking IGN's reviews seriously after they gave GTA 4 a 10 with all it's glitches, freezes and stuff. I bought the game and yeah, it's good, but I can see how GTA veterans who have played it are bored and think that not much has changed ( especially when you compare it to San Andreas where it seems things have been lost!) I've now finished it so I can say the missions could get repetitive and the only thing that saved it from being traded in afterwards is the muliplayer which is brilliant......when it works.

Giving GTA 4's graphics a 10?! So I guess it's on par with COD4, GeOW and Assassins Creed? Yeah right.

I agree with some of the people here that this game probably deserves a 6 or 7 which to me is good enough for me to buy because I've PLAYED the demo a few times AND I played it in here in London at an event and I thought it was good.

After reading the review, they mentioned it's generic and offers nothing new to the FPS genre.....lol I can't wait to see what they're going to give future FPS's then because I don't see anything hugely innovative coming up on the horizon....we'll see, but I've got a strong feeling they're just give their FPS of choice a high score because the reviewer of that game will be a fanboy.

To be honest, I think this game flopping won't have as much of a negative impact on Free Radical as one would presume. I mean, this is their first time developing for the PS3. Yeah, companies like Insomniac get it right first time, but not everyone can. FR just need to learn from their mistakes, improve upon the knowledge they've gained from the development process, and put all that into Timesplitters 4. The 'Splitters series is where Free Radical shine, it always has been.

Sort of like how, if Killzone 2 fails, Guerilla, Sony and everyone else involved will gain anyway, in new tech and experience. In the end, it's a win-win (albeit an eventual win).

I cannot trust IGN reviews anymore, that is what I learned today from the Haze review (I already had my doubts about there journalism but this was the defining moment). It is impossible that a game like Haze which is not AMAZING per say, but actually pretty good gets a score of less than 5 on 10, from what I played in the demo, the graphics were actually better than Halo 3 (and yes I owned a 360 and played Halo 3 for a good amount of time) and they gave Halo 3 9.0 on graphics, this is total bulls$$t. I can't believe that in todays day and age we cannot trust sites like IGN anymore because money talks louder than words. Sad, really sad. From what I've seen in the demo, the game deserved at least a 7.

I do think IGN may have a been a bit too harsh on the title but I expect this to get a lot of mixed reviews.

With the way the FPS market is now your going to have to really make the game stand out to get some solid recognition.

I'll wait for more reviews on this mainly Game Informer since I like their reviews best but I might still right it for the 4-player co-op.

I respect IGN's opinion. They have proven in the past to be reliable critics who bring an unbiased, open-mind to every review. That's what makes this all the more disheartening. Essentially, their review was well written and well focused. They didn't just doze off into never-never land like the Gamespot R&C review and start making up excuses for mediocrity. This was a well built review.

With that said, I am curious now how Haze scored a 34/40 from Famitsu. Also, most of IGN's complaints were what Free Radical were supposedly fixing during the delays. Just read PSU's "response" article interviewing the screen writter about this score. They say themselves they thought these problems were fixed. Is the review based on the November code? I doubt it, but anything's possible.

I'm still picking this up with the EB one week trade-back-in deal in mind. I'm really curious now to see if Haze is a stinker or if Free Radical has created the new Killzone: Technically flawed, underappreciated FPS Gem. We'll see when my pre-order comes in.

I think the only reason Haze got some love was because they were known to be the first game to come out in a slew of games on the ps3.
Gta was coming out but it was delayed.

There is quite a lot about the text of IGN's review that set me off, but the primary thing is his lack of attention in regards to the multiplayer, especially as compared to how much focus he paid to the story. Half of the text was just him complaining that he didn't like the character or the story. I say big deal, there are tons of games out there with ridiculous machismo and stupid characters and a weak, even hammy story, that they give accolades to because, quite frankly, the story is not as important as the gameplay.

So it distressed me to read half of a review just focused on complaints in that area. Games can be made much better through a great story, but games with awful stories or no story at all have never impeded my ability to enjoy them if they have good gameplay.

They have about 2 sentences devoted to the multiplayer. The main reason I am interested in HAZE is the multiplayer. Multiplayer is a mainstay for all of this develop's games, and I think that the multiplayer in HAZE, with the nectar and all, looks like it could be a blast.

The only time in the review that he touches multiplayer involves naming the kinds of matches, and saying that there is a sort of merit system. That's IT! He doesn't go into details about any of it. He doesn't even tell you if nectar is a part of the deathmatch, and team-play etc. How am I supposed to make an informed decision based on this review, which doesn't go into any specifics whatsoever? Are the online maps well-designed, what about the weapon selection, are there vehicles that you can drive? And AGAIN, most importantly (especially in light of their comments that Nectar barely plays a role in the single-player experience): IS NECTAR PART OF THE ONLINE VS. EXPERIENCE?

But he doesn't even talk about it. So as far as I'm concerned, IGN's review is basically worthless. It's poorly written, he talks about all the wrong points, and doesn't give me the majority of the information I would want in order to really decide if this game is for me.

What the hell is a console exclusive? Sounds like xbox fanboys use this term to make them feel like they are actually getting exclusives.

Fact of the matter is that almost every console gamer also has a computer and if I want to play those games I can with the pc version, which btw is superior and cheaper priced. So keep touting your "console exclusives" while I play real exclusives.

As far as Haze is concerned, I played the demo and it is no where near as bad as what ign is saying, not to mention they didn't say sh*t about the multiplayer, which is what free radical is known for. Was it great? No but I have plenty of other games coming out for me not to care.

You know what is funny though. If this game goes multiplatform, which it very well may if it doesn't sell well, then all the xbox fanboys will all of sudden be singing a different tune about the game!

MY EYES! 4.5 WOW I guess this game has no hope for me.... I played the demo and honestly I wasnt at all impressed with the gameplay or the graphics. I couldnt kill w.o the nectar because you cant see in all the trees and when you are dosed on it its xtremely easy xcept in hard mode where you take damage from anywhere and die xtremely easy. This was a game I hoped to be good but i guess not oh well MGS in a couple weeks anyway.

I just read the entire review just now and now pronounce this as an unjust review based on what I read. It looks like they solely rated the game based upon the campaign mode and said the multiplayer doesnt count. How can you judge a fps game on its singleplayer mode only?!? I already knew the campaign mode was going to be trash and probably only play it with friends for da fun of it. I thought they have more info on multiplayer about the vehicles maps etc.. NOTHING I think I may try this out after all this review is bs. yea i spent a great deal of time anticipating HAZE as well. Im not gonna lie and act like i wasnt. The game LOOKED like it had potential. Because im a pretty big HALO fan. And HAZE looked like it "borrowed" a few great ideas from HALO. 4 player co-op, and vehicle support. Which made me happy so i was interested. But as i see now this game fell thru the cracks. So back to HALO 3 i go lol.

I guess its kinda my fault for thinkin another game can do what HALO 3 does. I just hope for the sake of my PS3 that Metal Gear 4 ends up as great as me and alot of other PS3 owners hope. I think Haze should have concentrated on having a varied and diverse single player campaign with an enjoyable multiplayer aspect. Although this generation encourages a multiplayer feature in most FPS games, it is not the be all and end all of a good game.

considering that IGN has given harsh scores to games that i've personally enjoyed (ie, Lair, Heavenly Sword, etc), i'll play it for myself.

i think we can blame the deluge of FPS titles released in the past two years. there have been so many released, that the game has to be damn near EXCEPTIONAL and "revolutionary" in order to get more than a derisive smirk from the collective gaming conscience.

for example, i really like The Darkness video game. while others will, at the least, acknowledge that it was "okay," very few people enjoyed it like i did.

Free Radical makes good games, and they KNOW the FPS genre. i don't see how a company that is known for creating quality games, and FPS titles to boot, suddenly drops the ball. that'd be like if Bungie made an FPS for their next game outside of Halo, and people slam it. at the LEAST, i'd expect the game to be FUN. not revolutionary, or genre breaking, but fun.

i'm not going to throw around "PS3 bias" for IGN, but their reviews of PS3 exclusives, at least, in comparison to my particular tastes in gaming, has been quite at odds since, oh, i don't know, November, 2006, when the PS3 launched.

Haze could very well be a 4/10 by their standards, but from what i've played of the game, and from Free Radical's pedigree, i'm willing to give the game a shot before i pass final judgment.

I definitely don't think the game deserves a 4.5/10 but then again reviews are subjective. I think it is extremely bold of ign.com to give the game the score it received but then again...I don't want to know what Yahtzee says about it. I take most reviews with a grain of salt...but when IGN scores a game, low or high, you take notice. The one review of theirs I just can get over is Prey; the game was unique but was sub 5 hours to complete, and had horrible multiplayer. Still, ign.com game Prey (x360 version) a 9/10. I have a horrible taste in my mouth from that review and have yet to forgive them completely for it; worst $60 dollars I ever spent. The Lair and the Haze reviews look shockingly similar to me and I don't think either score is deserved. Granted Lair was not spectacular, the focus was only on the faults of the game; I actually enjoyed some parts of it. With a game like Haze that does NOT have control issues (on account it is a "generic" FPS) why is the game faulted so much? I was not overly thrilled by this game from day 1 but still...Guess everyone is going to have to rent and try it themselves.

I'm not saying Haze won't be goty because it's a PS3 game, or even because it sucks. I've known many good games that got bad reviews. There's no way it will be the best of the year, though, especially in a year with GTA IV, MGS4, Gears 2, Resistance 2, etc.

Can the 360 fanboys get it into their heads that Haze is not a PS3 exclusive game, it is a "timed exclusive". How do I know it's for sure a timed exclusive, the Haze demo when beaten gives info about the game and the release date, plus it says and I quote, "4 player co-op, a Playstation 3 exclusive". Why would Free Radical put that into an "exclusive" PS3 game, that clearly shows that it will be coming to other consoles and/or PC.

we wouldn't be having this type of out cry if you sony only guys wouldn't hype every PS3 EXCLUSEIVE as the second coming. I played the game an it's just O.K. im gonna buy it if my online friend decide to buy it with me. i dont wanna go in alone. but I remember N4G exploding with Haze praise from the sony guys, an about how it was gonna destroy halo3 an the xbots wanted this game. all we did was try an tell you guys that this game was nothing special but you guys felt as if we were just hating on the game. no you know the truth. the game is closer to bad than good, but I'm still willing to give it a chance. it would have been great if it released at 34.99. i would buy it first day(tomorrow)

I'm guilty of hyping HAZE. Hell, Free Rad. had a nice track record. I didnt think it would be the killer app that most people taunted it to be but I did think it was going to be a game that I would love to have in my PS3 library.

Enter HAZE PSN Demo- I was utterly shocked and not in a good way at the voice acting alone. I sat and thought to myself "what in the hell were all those delays for if what they are giving us is this wack sh!t"

I posted my distaste for HAZE on here and out came the disagree bats to beat me for speaking the truth, HAZE IS GARBAGE! My PS3 makes me happy and despite the criticisms this is hands down the best system out there for me.

I support my system but I cant support and defend a game if i view it to be unworthy. I made this judgement based on playing the demo and not IGN's score which brings me to my next point.

Alot of my fellow campers were gung ho about HAZE and seemed to enjoy the demo. I'm seeing some of the same people changinging their minds and talkin sh1t about HAZE after defending the demo just days ago.

My point is- if you like HAZE then get it. Dont let IGN think for you, think for your damn self. Im not big on conspiracy theories at all but some foul things are taking place on gaming sites. Money talks and BS walks. I'm not accusing IGN of taking doe from one side to cripple another. I am accusing IGN of being full of sh1t. Haze is better than Turok for Christ Sake, thats not saying much but it does cause me to question how in the hell IGN is rating its games.

I thought Haze was decent but Microsoft has had it's major flops most of 2005 was flops, 2006 only brought Gears of War, 2007 brought Halo 3, 2008 Gears of War 2, etc.
I find it funny how Microsoft and it's fan boys try to make themselves feel better by saying PS3 Games are weak yet Sony is breaking new barriers and changing what gaming should really be like for the better in the next 10 years.

I'll say that Haze is alright not nearly as good as Call of Duty 4 but still fun to play regardless.
Microsoft can't even compete any more have you've seen the line ups for 2008 and 2009 now compare that to the the PS3 that equals a console war winner right there.
I know every console has it's pros and cons but Sony is built for the long run and the 360 is short term.
10 year console= $500 (PS3)
4 year console = $350 (360)

1080P VS upscaled 720P visuals (360)
HDMI 3.1 VS HDMI 2.1 (360)

Come on now Sony is winning in every category.
Xbots are just mad because like the HD DVD they thought they were getting the future when really they were getting played and getting last gen quality products and software.
This arguement talking about which console is better is going no where just by looking at the games, technology, accessories, etc. (PS3 Wins!)

What was so great about Halo?? Bad graphics, 16 players online, 6 hours campaing.. I mean this game plays alot like Halo, its longer, better graphics and same online.. I didnt like the game, becus I basecly hate everything that looks and plays like Halo, it boreds the hell outta me to watch or play Halo, I cant understand how people even stand talkin about it.. and Im gonna buy Haze just to support Free Redicale for their dicesion to choose the right platform ;0) and leave the dead platform out ;0) I mean all 360 exclusives is comin on PS3 anyway, Bioshock, Ninja Guiden, Overlord, Lost Planet, and soon Mass Effect.. have a nice day everybody..

Don't let those bad reviews or xbots tell you otherwise. These people probally haven't even spent time with the game or even played the game. I rented it first and its alot of fun online. The vechicles and guns look better then Halo 3. The graphics are far from horrible. I don't know what kind of tv these reveiwers are watching these games on. There are a few bad textures, but what game doesn't have them. Call of duty 4 is a great looking game, but go close to any wall and the textures get muddy. No game engine is perfect, and it they won't be this generation, so get over it. Every game on the wi looks like a turd and people always say its about the gameplay, not the graphics. Well, I can assure you, that Haze looks and proforms better then the 360s Blacksite, Turning Point, Hour of Victory, and received lower scorse then those turds. If you have a ps3 rent this game, cause its one of the better Fps out this year. What other exclusive Fps on the 360 besides frontlines have been steller this year. You can't name one!!!!Frontlines moved so slow and lacked alot of online game type options. The 360's only exclusive this year so far was Viva Pinata 2. Oh boy, I'll take Haze over that piece of shat anyday. Yeah, Haze isn't perfect, but even the almighty Halo 3 wasn't and yet it still received 10's and I hated it and returned it after 2 days online. Don't take any reveiwers opinion, cause its yours that counts. Rent, if you like it buy it, it you don't, then save your money for another title. I am here to tell you that it is a pretty good game with a different aspect of fighting then your standard Fps shoot to kill way of playing. In this game knives and grenades are used in very cool ways and thats where this game shines. Its a freaking fun online fragfest. This is just my opinion, since I have owned the and have played it instead of Coduty 4 for the last 3 days.
