Insider: XMB Trophies will be arriving by June 12th

Usually i don't stress with achievements but since MGS4 is a game i see myself finishing a minimum of 5 times achievements are a nice icing on the cake for me

except that a lot of people are hooked on them. Only owned a PS3 so I never understood the obsession. For me to get into it now I'd need them to find a way to award me stuff based on what I've done already. If all my hardwork in RFOM etc dont' get counted then I doubt I'll really get into it. Not a bad move for Sony. Now all those achievement junkies can stop saying "I'm buying the 360 version cuz of achievements." Looking at you here Greg Miller.

I want in-game xmb and soundtracks before this bullcrap. Ive been gaming for over 20 years, Ive got real trophies hanging on the wall, I could care less about some virtual reality ones. Why does everyone care about achievments and trophies so much?,,, give me something thats interactive and makes life way more easier and cooler.

As Sony stated before, many of the features of Home will be accessible from the XMB, thereby ensuring that you don't HAVE to launch Home to do certain things. One of these is to have 2D representations of your trophies (which will be 3D in Home).
That's what they are refering to here.

For instance, any games that already have trophies/medals/skill points, will they all be included from the get go?

Games that I own with those sort of things:
- Resistance
- Ratchet & Clank
- Uncharted
- Warhawk

I wonder why games like Hot Shots Golf don't have any ?

For the 360 it just reads the information off your hard drive, so the PS3 may do the same thing. If you have all of your save data still you may not have to replay anything. I wouldn't mind replaying some Ratchet and Clank or Uncharted though.

That was a cool thing in DMC4. When you first start the game up, messages would pop up with achievements one of your friends completed....

"______ has just passed mission 5 on S rank! ______ has played DMC4 for 10 hours!".

It pushed me to beat the game before him lol...I just said forget it and played the game all night until I beat it. The next day he messaged me "what the hell?? you beat it already??" I wonder what messages popped up on his screen lol..."Crotin passed missions 7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 and beat the game on S ranking! Devil Hunter!"

But XMB trophies would be big, that would just be a killer update.

I don't think Sony knows how big of a change this would be in-terms of replayability and attach rate increasement. 360 owners brag and say "360 owners by games.", but it's not all because the 360 has had some good games in 2007, it's also because of achievements. Not many people are buying Xbox originals because there aren't any achievements, but I bet if there were, they would sell like crazy. There's too many people with games like Avatar, King Kong, Open Season, TMNT, and old EA games just bought used recently to boost their gamerscore. Alot of people don't care about their score, but there's some hardcore people that care alot about their score, as we've seen people going to the extreme of loading 1000/1000 saves into their hard drive for a higher score. Yes, 360 owners buy games...but achievements make bad or mediocre games to some people actually playable. I bet if Lair or other games on PS3 that are considered flops to people had XMB trophies, it would've sold more.

XMB trophies would take away a big point of why alot of people favor Xbox Live...add better in-game communication and it's a wrap. I'm able to send a message in-game to someone on my friend's list in the Haze demo, which shows promise. If they add individual voice chat to someone on your friend's list in-game and add game invites to any game then Sony pretty much did what everyone has been demanding for awhile...I really hope this is true

SCEE did openly confirm that alot of the Home features such as ingame communications and xmb access and such will be implemented in the summer for 2.4 firmware update. so if they timed it with MGS4 that would be awesome. I think it's time i update my HDD size again because I am gonna need all the HDD space i can get. that File size requirement for MGS4 is gonna require my gaming life, and i cant wait to play all 50gigs of it.

Actually trophies are not that great...Sony just needs in-game XMB...I was playing on my friend's 360 the other day and when I played my PS3 again, it just felt to dull without in-game XMB....Sony really needs to get that out

This trophy system will have nothing to do with home until home get's out. This will be through your XMB. In game should hit us by 2.4 fmware. Which is supposedly coming out around the same date as MGS4 June 12. Lot's of speculation, but I'm sure they will have something for us soon, let us be reminded that online is free and they don't have to do anything for us. I am looking forward to this as well. I love achievements. Gives me more replay value.

This is gonna turn out to be one hell of a launch. MSG4, trophies and XMB? That will keep me busy for awhile. Also possibly the reason i'll be missing a few days of work.

trophies in MGS4 release day? yes this sounds very intriguing, its like getting two great gifts as one, but.. something is telling me that in-game xmb might end up absent and believe me i which this feeling of mines ends up being wrong. but the reality is that in-game xmb is something that requires memory and depending on how sony deals with this feature the technique might require the use of an (spe) which ofcourse companies like infinity ward and insomniac make heavy use off for their games, i mean overall there eight total but one remains an outcast for backup purposes i suppose, but if sony could find ways to compress the size of the memory this feature needs than we will see it rather sooner than later.

but yeah trophies should be interesting to have that is... if its to have a deep system behind it. for example maybe something like what i came up with below.

this system is called A.M.R.T" accomplishments>medals>r ewards>Trophies

basically is a trophy system but with more to it than just achievements.

for example a game like uncharted already has both medals and rewards in it, but doesn't have accomplishments.

the idea is simple get a certain amount of accomplishments in a game, and get rewarded a medal for those accomplishments. now you get a certain amount of medals and get rewarded with REWARD/S.

so in lamer terms it would go something like this.. so please bare with me for a second.

Accomplishments- these are achievements get them completing certain tasks in games. whether on or off line there is accomplishments to be obtain on both ends here so...those without online better get with the program thats all i could say.

Medals- this right here is like a universal ranking system used for getting rewards and ultimately showing off. exactly how does a medal work and how do you get medals? simple medals are here to represent both skill and the number of accomplishments a player has been able to get, depending on the amount of medals,these medals are also than used as a ticket to getting Rewards".

Rewards- are just that rewards, how do they exactly work and how do i get them? simple just like above this has its own set of process, but simpler. these rewards can be anything from credit towards things such as add-ons, map packs, psone games, psn games, on the ps store, and also for things like decals, clothes, tv's and money towards a new apartment in home, or like uncharted rewards could also simply come in the form of extras for the specified title like documentaries, unreleased trailers, making of the game interviews, unlimited ammos or a few extra missions and such ect. . is also worth noting that rewards doesn't necessarily have to be credit towards these things but also just be these things mention above..or..simpler things depends on the game and what the developer feels like making part of its reward system. or just credit to that could be used to be purchase many things with or stored on the gamercredit line, which ill talk about and breakdown in a few minutes.

these rewards can than be simply obtain through the certain amount of medals a particular game requires you to obtain, once this amount of medals are obtain than per that amount you get a reward. example a game like say MGS4 would probably make you get at least 3 medals before giving you a single reward. now note not every game has this same amount some games could have more or less, it all comes down to the developer and the overall amount of rewards they feel like offering in an ip.

Trophies- this right here is just a representation of everything fully gathered through the above stages. to get a trophy you must get everything from accomplishments, medals to rewards. once every accomplishments, medals and rewards are obtain, than this achievement will be represented with a trophy.

now there are 3 different kinds of trophies to be handed out per game, bronze, silver and gold. these trophies are than based on difficulty, for example a gamer decides he or she is going to try and get everything through easy, than that player would end up with a bronze trophy instead, now the same would apply to silver and gold except silver is obtain through medium difficulties, and gold is through harder difficulties thats all. oh and every game will be represented by one trophy, click on the trophy and everything accomplished and obtain will be displayed for show and tell. of course if you like than you can have all bronze, silver and gold trophies all represented for a single game.

overall in a way trophies work like a universal ranking system, which like medals can be used to ultimately show off or impress others who view your profile. as your able to view theirs as well, and all in a 2d text environment of course.

Skill points- what is it and how does it work? simple this is a gamers overall personal rank on the playstation network. this also determines what kind of gamer you are, novice, average, good, veteran ect. a gamer with a lot of skills points is consider a veteran or a general. in order to obtain and build up skillpoints gamers must play and beat games, now if they would like to obtain even more skillpoints and improve their overall rank than they must obtain trophies, this also means that depending on the trophy, bronze, silver or gold the amount of skillpoints earn would than be determine and handed out by that system. now please note that these skillpoints aren't in any kind shape or form or are to be looked at as credit, for use and get things with. instead skillpoints are rep points, a ranking system by the gamers for the gamers. all this of course is displayed through the profile of course.

(G.C) gamercredit- is an actual credit line build by the gamers for the gamers via credit obtain through "Rewards". this system here gathers up and adds up all the credits obtain through "Rewards" an example of this would read something like this...Gamercredit...your Gamercredit line thus far is. $211.00. of course this credit could than be used towards many things, this however wont make the psn cards obsolete as there are bound to be many lazy gamers out there that wouldn't even bother trying to build a solid Gamercredit line, and instead would op to get a psn card. all this of course is displayed through the profile of course.

(gamers'onality)or gamer personality is well.. just that this pretty much lets the rest of the gaming world know what kind of gamer you are, whether your honorable, bashful, a loner, friendly, competitive an extremist, daredevil,hardcore or casual you know on and off kinda gamer ect. all this of course is displayed through the profile of course.

(Buddies)this basically lets you know the number of friends you have, which are currently online and for those who aren't online what were their last log in times. by scrolling down the list and selecting a buddy gamers would also be able to view their buddies as they too can view which games they play the most as well as their trophies, Gamercredit line, and Skillpoints as well. this system is to keep the friendly competitive feel and spirit alive. all this of course is displayed through the profile of course.

sure developers would have their work cut out for em for sure, but with the right tool and some heavy assistance and support like the one insomniac is giving everyone at sony including 3rd party studios as well, than with the right amount of time anything could be possible.

ook so maybe this isn't exactly the most robust or perfect system in or in the perfect order in the world but... hey at least its an idea worth shooting for, this way there could be more to games than just plain achievements.

oh well at least let me know what you all think though.
