Sony Australia Claims GTA IV Victory. Says Microsoft got it wrong.

It was a point that was reiterated by internal sales data from Australia's largest game retailer, EB. He continued, "The other thing I can tell you – and I feel comfortable telling you because I've asked them – EB, in the standalone data…across EB in Australia, the PS3 SKU outsold the Xbox 360 SKU too."

Essentially, we don't have either party's sales figures for the week, but Ephraim believes that the difference of 5000 was enough to put Sony ahead of MS's release of GTA IV – without even being factored into the GfK figures.

its main purpose is to keep investors happy and fuel fanboy wars. All of MS's talk about how badly the ps3 was doing and whatever else they said meant absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. The 360 is being caught by the ps3 after a year and a bit headstart. No amount of deflection and spin can change the facts. MS are looking over their shoulders. Testament to MS for bringing the fight to Sony this gen, credit where its due, but the PS3 is gaining ground quickly globally and no pr fud can hide that OR make me feel its gaining ground quicker than it actually is.

Dont know exact figures. Anyway, im sure if ms or sony sold 5K above the competition in one state of the US they would be rather happy. Not for the 5K, but because its is only a sample. Also, what's the GFK numbers? Anyone care to explain? Also, MANY Australians imported their PS3 versions of GTA IV. If this isn't the "GFK" numbers (once again, what are these?) then it only adds to the number of copies sold on the PS3.

None of us cared about game sales and just loved the games themselves. I for one could care less about 5000 more copies of GTA4 being sold on any plstform and would love to hear less about sales and more about how people enjoy the game.

Not often but anyway, could be that the console manufacturers were both looking for a hardware boost from gta4, not just software. If ms trounced sony in software, but sony obliterated ms in hardware i think id call that a victory for sony, as they have the smaller install base and are trying to catch up.

Also the gta4 bundle wasnt available until the 3rd (in alot of places anyway). I think alot of people would have purchased the console and game seperately so that they didnt have to wait another 3 days.
