Capcom get all MotoGP rights - New game confirmed

PlayTm reports that word in from Capcom today reveals that the publisher has snapped the rights to create officially-endorsed MotoGP games - on every platform.

The license had previously been in the possession of THQ, but according to news today the Japanese publisher has "secured exclusive worldwide rights to publish official videogames and create peripherals based on the World's premier motorcycling championship, MotoGP across all hardware platforms."

Capcom previously held PlayStation platform rights only, but this arrangement has now been superseded. A 2008 MotoGP season game has also been revealed, the game set for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC, PS2 and mobile devices.

A game EA got right with bikes was ROADRASH hehehe :P

Road Rash is one of the best biker games ever. Come to think of it, Sony should re-release that game on PSN.

alright Capcom... I love you as far as video games go so don't fubar this series.

Capcom making MotorGP? strange... also feels as if it does not go together... I would think an american company or European would buy the rights to this game. I follow this sport... Notice I am not questioning Capcom ability to make this a great game at a technical level... just that capcom is not really into this kind of sport games.

I remember some MotoGP from PS1, was pretty good.

Antan5874d ago

I guess it not really any different from Namco creating their version of MotoGP.

I don't mean to sound biased but all rights for anything motorsports should be accessible to Polyphony Digital. Since we're talking MotoGP may I remind you of a little game called Tourist Trophy. While a two wheel game, Sony & PD seriously smashed it out of the park. It was and still is the best motorcycle game ever created.

I'm tired of companies like EA hording Porsche and Lamborghini and I wish Sony would have help on to the F1 license.. While their own game was a failure (Formula One Championship Edition) look at what PD has done with the Ferrari F1 car in GT5P!

Koku Gamer: MotoGP 08 Review

Koku Gamer writes: "The racing genre is one just as varied as the vehicles it features – and no more specific is the motorbike racing scene. Unlike the more popular disciplines such as NASCAR, Formula 1 and the countless arcade and simulation titles, when it comes to motorbike racers, it hits a niche to be frank. More often than not, a game of such a style will appeal to people with a genuine interest in the motorsport, and due to its uniqueness, will deter casual gamers. MotoGP 08 however was set to change that, Capcom stating that its multi-tiered riding models would appeal, suit and attract both casual and serious racers alike. But was this enough to bring the game to the masses and revolutionize the genre?"

The MotoGP games are very overlooked, nice review.

Too many game sites criticize this series, while it's one of the best motorcycle racing series out there.
