First PS3 Hands On GTA IV Preview and Screens from PSM3

The latest issue of UK magazine PSM3 features a massive twelve-page exclusive preview of Grand Theft Auto IV. The preview contains four new screenshots which have never been seen before, and new character illustrations of Little Jacob and Vlad. All the screenshots in the scans are from the PS3 Version.

- The preview was based on the PlayStation 3 version of the game. This is the first time that the PS3 version has been seen by journalists.

- The faster you tap X, the faster Niko runs. He doesn't appear to get tired.

- Major collisions on motorbikes cause the helmet to fall off. You can see it fall onto the ground.

- Niko gets in trouble with 10 bikers in a street fight, some of them had knives, Niko runs away and a police officer sees him getting chased by the biker gang, the police officer thinks Niko is an innocent pedestrian and helps Niko out and shoots at the bikers.

Since the Playstation version will receive extra downloads to make it better for years I fail to see how those other useless things make up for it. Of course the X-Box version needs to be released with an extra mission or two, once the game comes out it can't be altered. On another note, the devs of GTA are not going to take advantage of the ps3 and make a superior version. First, it would take away from sales on the 360 version which I'm sure they spent tons of money on since everyone would get the superior version. Second, It would probably raise legal issues with Microsoft. I can keep going. Simply put there going to try to make equal versions of the same game to avoid any kind of flame wars/issues, etc.

Ah hell you did it now.. Ok *cracks knuckles* first of all just because microsoft paid rockstar 50 mil doesnt mean that they are going to kiss their ass and make the 360 version look superior. That money hat was just for the two episodic content downloads which rockstar has confirmed hasnt even began coding. Secondly rockstar also said that the ps3 wil be getting dowloadable content, they havent said what it will be though. Now onto your most mislead statement. Yes rockstar cited the ps3 in the delay but, they said "the ps3 was a FACTOR in the delay" he didnt blame the entire thing on the ps3. Learn to comprehend a little better. Also crack open the october issue of GameInformer and they have a little article in which they discuss the delay. In the article they also cite that the 360 code running was running far less then stellar which only leads to one conclusion. NEITHER VERSION WAS READY for launch so they did the smart thing and pushed it back. Conspiracy theorists ran wild with this and said sony had an exclusivity contract that prevented rockstar from launching the 360 version b4 the ps3 but this was all hear say and cannon fodder... I work at best buy and we recieved and internal memo stating april 29th as "gta day" I cant divulge all the info, but it pretty much said that the game is about to go "gold" which means all they have to do is print the discs and ship em... Im super stoked about this game, the delay back in august really hurt my opinion and anticipation of the game but now that a release dates is set im super hyped...

Lol, I think they are good examples as the devs stated that the games would be fine but after release they turned out to be Boinked!! So how might this game be different? Because one magazine says the Frame Rate is "extremely smooth" you believe it. Ever thought that perhaps everything that was written had been prepared by Rockstar`s Press Dept, to raise pre-orders on the PS3..... Its not like they would say the Frame rate is iffy if they are given exclusivity on Screen shots and Info from the game, because most magazines have no itegrity and are only interested in money.

I said that because prior to either of those games being released, every preview I read said there were issues that needed to be ironed out. Then we get the finals and they were buggy as hell, I do believe it was stated that the framerate in GTA4 was choppy too in earlier previews. I suppose we'll all see when it finally comes out.

Great to hear the framerate is smooth, not sure if it`s true though, as the previous GTA-games wasn`t the smoothest running games around. Still hope they are right.

A little disappointed they didn`t speak more about the targeting system in detail, as i was very interested to hear how that was shaping up, but could be more info in the actual mag preview though ;)

All the other details revealed sounded great. You can`t go wrong with a russian radio station can you ;)

I think the game could have been much bigger and slightly better maybe if it hadn't been for the Limits of the DVD-9 Format in the 360 but saying that the PS3 holds but the game slightly with its GPU chipset aswell.

Because some of you still think that that the 360 version has got a crappy framerate it hasn't. Both version will be the same, graphics, features and gameplay. The trailers for GTA IV were old and they were running on the 360 as the PS3 version was a few weeks behind dev of the 360 build. They are now the same so stop making fanboy comments in the gamer zone please.

if i owned both consoles, which i shall when gt5 comes out id still have to go for the 360 version in this case for the following reasons.

The DLC is a factor, sure you dont have to buy it but its an option thats not there for the ps3 version. if it turns out to be crap oh well but if its amazing then you would be silly not to go 360.

the controller. i live in a PAL terriotry so the earliest i have heard of DS3 release is november... my 360s pad already rumbles and this isnt a game where the Dpad which is the ps3s trump card controller wise is a asset.

Live - sure i pay $70 a year for it but i have alot of buddys there and its so damm streamlined. i hope gta takes a page from burnout paradise and has the 2 button press invites/joining.

I've read things that are just plain insane because of brand loyalty. I have both a ps3 and an xbox360. I have had a much better experience with the Xbox360 then I have had with the PS3, I've played in totally 9 ps3 games, and 22 Xbox360 games. See, this all has to do with perception.
Which brings me to this, which ever system you enjoy the most is the system you should get it (GTA4) on. I hear things like " Get it on PS3" it was made for it. That's a bunch of hog wash, and sometimes an excuse to change someone's perception. People maybe used to it being on one system, but to say it was made to be on a certain system is plain insane. For that matter Final Fantasy should still be on Nintendo, and Metal Gear should also still be on Nintendo because they were made for Nintendo, thats where they started, right? This foolish rhetoric, makes me laugh. The same as saying that first person shooters' controls are better suited for xbox360 games.
When the leading factor is all about perception, if I own both systems, but enjoy more games on my xbox360, the game looks and plays the same on both systems why would I believe GTA4 is a better gaming experience on PS3, because it was meant to be played on PS3? Surly there is a better reason then that.

Nej, there are some points that Getpowned says. The xbox was far more superior then the ps2. This can be seen in a lot of the games being developed in the last generation. In this generation the ps3, and xbox360 are some what equal in hard ware then last generation. He is also right, about the boosting of ps3 visuals. PlayStation said they would be the graphical power house of this generation, and yet they look equal to xbox360's visuals in most games we fight about. Now, there are a few things I disagree with him on, but he is right in some aspects of what he is saying.
Again like I said before its all about perception. A system you call crap has one of the highest attach gaming rates, and has sold in the millions mark even with RROD issues. I understand your brand loyalty goes with Sony, but this is not a war of good and evil, friend or foe. You think Sony cares about your well being? No, they care about keeping that top spot in the market, and will do virtually anything to keep it that way. Even if they have to lie, update, or change hardware components to keep us all interested. As a company, they have to measure success.
Do you think the xbox would have done well in the market competing with 360, and ps2? No, its bad enough the attach rate of the xbox wasn't as huge as the ps2. The only reason why they continued support of the ps2 was it was in the positive. (making money) if the ps2 was in the same boat as the xbox you think sony would have continued the support and risk losing money?
Remember the PS2 was still selling at a high rate, so as a business you continue to ride that wave until it fades away thats how it works, and thats how it will continue when your products' past equipment is selling. MS knew they lost with the xbox. So, why continue to support something that is already projected to pull toward the negative? Its nothing personal, its just business
