sony dosent stress the free part of their online enough. i knw a couple of ppl who were shocked to knw they had to pay for online. it really isnt that bad though its about the price of a game to pay for a yr and you get a lot of features lacking on the other console. On the other had if sony comes out with home "SOON" and they are able to at least reduce the gap between the 2 online services and possibly surpass live(however unlikely)...then they will really start stressing the free part

If someone was trying to decide which console to get and felt that they don't want to pay for on line service, then theres only one way to go.

There is actually more cost coverage, such as buying batteries or extra battery packs, and if someone's only option is a wireless connection there is that too. Doesn't matter, the only thing most people consider is the initial price of the item and become much more willing to buy the rest.

whats wrong with this add. Two people at my work thought that you had to pay for PSN. Thats one of the mistakes sony did in 07. They didn't tell consumers why it was more than worth the price tag. It might depend on what part of the world your in.
I live in the UK and the only 360 ads I remember is the one for Halo with all the figurines in a freeze frame of a battle and the only thing that moves (besides the camera) is Master Chiefs hand. The other one was for Bioshock.
For PS3 there have been ads for the system its self (different for the one you guys in the US got - I prefer your one because it actually shows games). But there have also been ads for heavenly sword and uncharted.
These are just the ads on TV I should point out.

Well...I do recall when Sony promised 100% percent backwards compatibility and railed on MS not providing it to negatively effect their reputation. We all know how that turned out. As long as this does not turn out to be the same then I don't have any issues with it. It will be interesting to see how they market their online if you end up having to pay for Home. Will they differentiate PSN from Home or will they let the consumer assume all their online is free. As online becomes more of an important selling point it will be interesting to see how the media war plays out between the two.

since ps3 already has that sweet "ladies and gentleman" ad featuring many of its greatest games, they should now make an ad that shows off all of its great features such as; dvd, blu ray, music, videos, free online, ps2/ps1 compability etc. then make the commercial as flashy and cool as they want like the latest they made, while still running the other current commerical. this should appeal to more people that doesnt know about the playstation 3. they will realize that all that will cost only 399-499. heck they see its a dvd player, people may buy it because of that.

Playstation has so many good things going for it at the moment and I am nearly ready to switch. The downtime and other issues aside, PC gamers don't have to pay to play and Valve are 100% correct. Lift the fee, re-emburse current subscribers by giving MS points and just charge for extra downloadable content. Give developers the option of keeping the product alive by giving DLC free or with a fee(Let them choose) and open up the hard drive for add ons that the likes of UT3 will allow. Progress is what us gamers want, the PS3 has made loads now and the 360 needs to do the same.

Do or die in my opinion, as a loyal 360 owner I am sick of getting shafted by MS and I am gettig very red and sore over it.

PSN is better when it comes to games let me tell you why.
All games play in 1080P and are in 3D with involvement of the SIX AXIS and they also have games now to where it's virtual reality by using the Playstation Eye Camera you use hand motion and body movement to play games then now compare that to XBL.
XBL does have games but they are old from older consoles what I think XBL lacks is originality.
XBL does have movies to download and that's a cool feature but show me originality.

Fact of the matter is all 3 consoles have a long road to go before being perfect, online and off. I agree consoles are consoles and not PC’s but the consumer is really paying through the nose for something they could already have. MS does provide a secure fast and reliable (Generally) service with Xbox live with a small subscription fee. Sony does provide a free service and Nintendo is the Mac of the console world as they provide a middle ground. The only difference I see are that Live acts as a secure network shielded from attacks and Sony’s network is completely open, without any virus or malicious protection - other than that they are both the same. For a paid service it is abysmal that we have to endure advertisements on live but the service is great and thoroughly enjoyable. Content is king and they have great use live arcade. Silver members have everything except online gaming. It doesn’t cost on the PC so I am flabbergasted as to why everyone must still, in this day and age, pay a subscription. I’d hate for live to pop-up adverts whilst playing but for the marketplace I could easily, and respectively put up with advertisements. It would be expected anyhow for a no charge service.
I beleive MS has to give live for free and soon, do it now to avoid the silly lawsuits and gain customer support in the mean time. Before we lose disatisfied gamers to PS3 (No offence guys, I love you PS3 gamers too)!

They used to call Nintendo out all the time on stuff. Sony even did it with the original Crash Bandicoot ads. They should do more ads flaunting the 360's faults. Run humorous ads making light of Microsofts ROD issues and pay to play online service.

They should have done this months ago, they are some people who think that Online play on PSN costs money.

They need to market better all around and set itself apart from the competition.

1) Market FREE online
2) Built in Blu ray (well they do a good job of this)
3) PC Capabilities (web browsing, DLC via the web (not PSN))
4) Casual FUN games like HVB, Everyday Shooter, and Super Stardust
5) Get Home working and out to the users.

Had they done this right and I think there would be more PS3's in households than the wii.

they cant put it on the box and i am sure most of you sony fans know they have said in the past there may be fees in the future for psn.this is why there is no definitive position or ad about it so they can change in the future.

The console battle is just like the battle with computers. Macs are always in the commercials talking about all the things it does and how vista has all these problems, while PC does nothing but stay quiet and produce. And while all of that is goin on you got linux runnin around slowly taking over.

Same with consoles. You got Xbox talking about all these stats and what games it has that Playstation doesnt, and you got Sony just trying to produce and get there stuff together. All the while Nintendo is in the background taking over...

The only difference is that Windows and its PC stuff is pretty much in the drivers seat and the console war is about to get real close coming into 2008

C'mon I can type a comment and only a seconds go by as another ps3 gamer dissagrees with my comment. Its takes a XBOT almost a whole day to give a comment on a subject to help flame the droids. So it is apparent that ps3 gamers have no life and no games with lasting appeal. Hell they didnt even give out any awards to fanboys in 2007. Why do you think they keep dropping the price of the 360 if they arent worried about sonys free online. that XBL money could have gone into a game purchase. XBL content, Guitar hero or Rock Band Songs, and many others, on top of that you must pay to browse these items. I think thats hog Shat

I believe this is just adding more fuel to the flamewar due to the fact that this advertisment is indirectly talking about XBL's yearly fee, I see MS counter attacking with another ad, maybe even an attack on the ps3. I pay for XBL gold which costs me £3.33 a month, nothing much really. I use PSN which is free, and I play online on my PC. Does not bother me tbh, some people can be really cheap. Both services have thier disadvantages and advantages.

If it said something fun is always free unlike others then i agree its taking shots. However, Wow which is an online game is also not free.

Paying for LIVE is probally the one thing i hate about LIVE. My subcription runs out on 3rd Feb and i don't know if its worth renewing or not, the only game i play online when i do is COD4, but have that on Ps3 aswell.

Theres also a lack of great looking online 360 games hitting this year, until Gears 2 hits
