Did the fans pull Slant Six out of the sh**?

It appears that Slant Six are pleased at the reports of Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City's first week success story, but the question has to be asked, is this the doing of Resident Evil fans alone?

ummmm this game is NOT for the RE enthusiasts because it is a SPINOFF. Hence the negative reviews. Its like expecting luigis mansion to be like a mario game.

Having said that, it was a good game... felt like the same enjoyment level as Binary domain, which is a game everyone should try if your into shooters.

Noctis Aftermath4426d ago

If they wanted to do a different game it should not of used the RE name.

It's low scores arent just because it's different to mainline RE games, it's because of the amount of bugs, the shit characters, the shit AI and several other factors.

SilentNegotiator4426d ago (Edited 4426d ago )

"Having said that, it was a good game"

I disagree. There is nothing special about the gameplay mechanics or gameplay in general. Below par, really.

It definitely didn't JUST get low scores because it wasn't traditional RE. RE4 shook things up a good deal....did IT get low scores?

It sucks seeing IPs abused, though. Banjo-Kazooie: N&B for example....that was okay, even if a little too loose with gameplay, but slapping Banjo into it made it insulting. They could have had ANY characters/collectibles occupy that game. All you did with the Jiggies was put them in a giant bubble....puzzle pieces just thrown together....yeah, something tells me it wasn't originally planned to be Banjo-Kazooie.

Especially the shit shooting

Name alone sells games. Making spinoffs which are outside of original series' target demography increases intellectual property/brand awareness therefore increases potential fanbase and sales.

It's apparent that Capcom makes blockbuster franchise out of RE. There are movies, games, CGI, novels, etc. And now they try to expand their reach with the franchise.

After second RE there was huge decline for the series.
RE3 sold 3.5m, which is 1.5m less than RE and RE2.
Code Veronica sold less than 3m.
Zero was the all time low for the series selling around 1.5m
They had to do something or RE would die.

Here enters RE4 with revamped more action centric gameplay. This alone sold 7m across all platforms and editions and got into Guiness World Records for highest selling survival horror game.

RE5 alone sold around 6m, without additional editions which was biggest RE commercial success up to date.

If again, they'll stagnate, Capcom might find themselves in similar spot in few years. Hence branching of the franchise.

It's how the industry rolls.

I'm 94.5% sure Most RE fans don't know. I friend of mine is just as big an RE fan I am and just considered it another RE.

Getowned4426d ago (Edited 4426d ago )

me to haha, who needs the ghost busters when you can grab your vacuum and tape a flash light on it :P

SilentNegotiator4426d ago

It was good, just far too short.

NYC_Gamer4426d ago

The game is only selling because it says Resident Evil on the cover

dedicatedtogamers4426d ago

True. CAPCOM is going after the COD/Gears/Dead Space crowd, it seems.

kratos1234426d ago

dude don't compare dead space with crappy RE

SephirothX214426d ago

Resident Evil 2 and Silent Hill 2 are the two best survival horror games ever made imo. Oh when will we see games like those again?

HarryMasonHerpderp4426d ago (Edited 4426d ago )

People just love shooters plus it has resident evil
on the front,it was always going to sell well.
Shame really because it pissed a lot of the hardcore
fans off and from what i have read its just a buggy mess anyway.
Not played it myself though, was put off by
the bad reviews they all seemed to have the same problems.

JsonHenry4426d ago

I'll probably pick this up on a Steam sale later in the summer. At least I hope it is coming to steam.

kevnb4426d ago

easy proof that nobody reads reviews, or atleast not a significant amount of people.

FunAndGun4426d ago

I think its proof of how a name can sell a game.

Kalowest4426d ago

While your reading, they're enjoying a game they probably like, and are making their own opinions on it.

SilentNegotiator4426d ago

And plenty of the players are simultaneously playing and dislike it.

Behind AC: New Horizons, this is my 2nd most wanted game this year.
Until Capcom remade RE2, RE3: Nemesis on PS1 was my favourite RE game.

Tross1529d ago (Edited 1529d ago )

I do think it's easily one of the most underrated RE games. I'm looking forward to fending off REmake Nemesis, especially since I heard his appearances throughout the game will now be somewhat randomized.

AK911530d ago

Umbrella chronicles is still my favourite it was really cool going back and playing the classics with updated graphics.

Nerdmaster1529d ago

I would say I thought Darkside Chronicles was better mainly because 2, Code Veronica and 4 (kind of represented in the game by Leon and Krauser) are my favorite games. But the super shaky camera in Darkside really bothered me...

Late in the Game Review: 'Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City'

The Gamer's Ghost returns in this Late in the Game Review series to revisit Raccoon City. Did Slant Six Games' premier Resident Evil title hold up to the series' standards? Or was it rotten, like the very zombies spawned from Umbrella's dastardly research?

I actually thought this was a fun game. Was it great? No. But there were some very cool moments in the game.

Stand outs were taking on the Nemesis with a group and the Tyrant on the elevator.

AK911560d ago

One if the worst games I ever had the dishonor of playing I'm glad Capcom has rebounded to making quality games now even outside the RE series.
