Operation Raccoon City says screw you critics - massive week 1 sales?

Capcom and Slant Six may have the last laugh when it comes to the poorly received Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City which launched this week.

ORC, regardless of what critics say will sell on three factors, even if it may be a poor game. 1)) It carries the Resident Evil name 2) It features 4-player online co-op 3) Those two things alone combined with word of mouth.

The game will surely do well, the big question is does it have any staying power to keep us coming back for more after completion?

The brand name alone will stop pretty much any POS Capcom releases from selling poorly.

And Duke Nukem Forever sold over a million. It's not like good sales means that critics are wrong.

That's the thing isn't it? GAME, although they're going down the shitter, would sell a new game and let you trade it back in minus £5, which you could then use credit on a future game.

While I have no doubt that will happen elsewhere now, it's something I would have considered doing myself, buy it, play it for a week with buddies, trade it in minus the £5, and then use that to buy a title that's a sure-fire keeper, i.e. Max Payne 3.

Basically the equivilant of a week long rental for £5, so it's no wonder Game have(had) such a high amount of pre-owned stock to shift, and why publishing partners may be glad to see them go in the long run.

The game is pretty good when it comes to co op. The game is not a 4/10 like ign said, its more like a 7.

The rating is irrelevant, the context of reviews is. Biggedt complain is that it doesn't have RE spirit, which is a shame, but this is what we got. Based on that, checking few reviews I might pick this up just becouse multiplayer, it seems pretty good, and RC is great setup.

Bro, let me tell you one thing.

ANY GAME seems good when you play it on co op. RE:ORC is a bad game, but you aren't noticing the flaws when you play the game with a friend because you are distracted by the company of other people.

If you give this game a look at what it is, then you will know that it is very flawed.

Not sure i get your victory dance , from what i've seen around here , most of the haters of the game didnt seem to expect low sales . Hell was anyone expecting low sales ?

They just were venting about the game , like with cod .

PS : FYI i dont hate the game nor care about it . I just find it funny to see people rejoicing at the sight of a game , even fans themselves admit isnt great , performing so well ... with a franchise that could deserve better .

I pre-ordered it, read all the reviews and still bought it. Me, my brother and two friends having a blast.

Playing the multiplayer modes in private only takes two people and you still get xp. Its mucho fun :)

All about the brand, but then again review scores aren't always true to the masses opinons. There are plenty of movies that get trashed by "critics" that I find entertaining. Why should it be different in this venue of media? Still looking forward to playing even with the low scores.

While a game might not always be technically fantastic, that doesn't necessarily mean the game isn't fun. People are enjoying Operation Raccoon City and that's ultimately what's important.

Plus it's Resident Evil, with actual zombies. For die-hard fans, it's probably worth overlooking problems.

Actual zombies ? You fight more people than zombies. Resident Evil was supposed to be all about zombies and the T-Virus, not about killing other squads that are bullet sponges by the way.

I don't understand people, I mean they complained about RE5 you couldn't move and shoot. Now that they gave it to them in a spin off it a problem. I like the change up, it has all the undead and mutant for all RE plus other agencies mixed in one. Playing random RE fans and friends is awesome if you work together. Professional and the harder difficulty is insane. Sure the story is cheesy,but the RE feel is there just presented differently. My rating is a 7.5

what RE feel are you referring to? the only thing this has any sort of relation to RE is the name and characters..... That's It. i'm not saying you can't enjoy ORC but to say this is anything like RE is a bullshit statement. the only game that has felt somewhat like true RE game is Revelations other than that everything after Code Veronica is just straight action nothing resembling the originals of any sort. Thats not an opinion thats Fact. oh and as for the move and shoot thing, people are stupid cause in real life you can't expect to have precision shooting a gun while moving. ask anyone who owns a gun, you don't move and shoot.

RE feel as in atmosphere, hoards of undead and mutants from the RE theme. Running out of ammo. As far as moving while shooting, you can in real life. Stay still and you will die. I own guns, and use them regularly.

I've been playing non stop since morning and simply cant get enough of the MP modes. I've never been an RE fan but I'm loving the competitive side of this game. The character and skills makes thing interesting when going head to head with others. Definately not a 4 out of 10 game. I'd give it an 8 just for the MP alone.

Obviously it's let down for people who are fans of the series (like me), since almost everybody is stating it doesn't feel like RE. But as you stated if you can get over the fact it's fun mp game, or you don't care for the franchises roots, it might be worth looking. I'll go for the first group, and will pick this title up at some point to check out the mp.

No offense but when people have to literally cry their eyes out trying to convince everyone that a game is good it sounds like you trying to convince yourself that it isn't a bad game and not everyone else.Raccoon City sounds like exactly what we expected it to be just like with NG3 and I don't see why people who don't like the 'for no reason' changes or the controls or the fact that it is obviously a downgrade are being called haters.

I don't like the changes, so what? When has it become a crime to say that I don't like something that was taken out or changed from the original game I know and love? No one is telling you not to buy it but don't call me a fool just because i don't want to run out and buy a game on your word alone. I would rather listen to the critics then some random person who might be just trying to justify his purchase.Many people just don't want to be the only odd man out who decided to buy a crappy game especially if the MP is one of the few good things about it.

from a co-op point of view, what's this game like? me and my mate completed resi 5 about 8 times, but all the bad reviews put me off this 1. is this game worth spending £30+ on, i'd like an actual gamers / co-op fans opinion.

Well I will say the campaign is not long as you may have read from some of the other reviews. It can be completed as fast as they say depending on the difficulty level (which is a given). Co-op (online) is not that bad haven't run into any lag problems if that is what you meant, and overall it's rather enjoyable having people instead of AI especially since they can revive you whereas the AI cannot. Do I think it's worth it at the current price and for what it offers?

Eh well that is up to the consumer and rather or not they want to also tackle versus mode after completing the campaign. If not then your kind of out of luck. Though I should say they said they were going to be adding more missions what it will entail I'm not sure. I'd keep my eye out on it though.

P.S. No split screen or anything so if that influences your purchase just wanted to let you know. From what I've gathered though from my rental is that it is pretty much like a 7.0 Average game in a way, has unused potential and hopefully there will be some additions/changes in the future. Here's hoping for a horde mode in which all characters can be used.

Upon further thought eh..6.5 instead maybe? I hate giving scores to things if I have to. So overall I'll just say game needs quite a bit of work (ie. I try to join a public campaign on normal and it throws me in professional [hardest difficulty] instead). At times the guns also need some tweaking just as well. Yet the mechanics itself seem to be built upon something that could be fun.

The game sucks.. Its the worst in the series, the only reason it sold good is because it have the resident evil name and has 4 players co-op. Also sales means nothing! Call of shiity sells good but the game sucks
