Devil May Cry From Reboot, To Alternate Universe, Now Origin Story? What BS

GamerFitNation's BackBible talks about Ninja Theory's changing the new DMC story from Reboot, to Alternate Universe, and now Origin Story. He question's if Developers are trying to play on Gamer intelligence or are they simply trying to find their footing.

they don't even care about how many fans of the franchise feel towards the changes

BLACKBIBLE4531d ago

Read full story, there you see my thoughts about how they are just trying to save face.

crxss4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

DMC4 was a disappointment and Capcom knows it. 3 was the best in the series and 1 is great too. But 2 and 4 were just not good. DMC should stick with the reboot statement, that way they can start anew and ignore those 2 black sheep. Origin story and alternate universe don't make sense since he's the son of a demon and an angel in this one. At this point we'll just have to wait for the game to come out to see how good it is. I'm staying optimistic about it since they apparently have hardcore DMC players helping with development.

I never bought 4 and will definitely buy the reboot, new Dante reminds me of dmc3 Dante mixed with Johnny Quid (google it and watch the movie if you don't know who I'm talking about)

Algonath4531d ago

How the hell was DMC 4 a "disappointment"? It was fantastic and had everything a fan would want except for Dante's bro V. Dmc 3 was good too.

ABizzel14531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

I'll gladly be in the minority for this one.

@crXss

I completely agree with you. Devil may Cry 4, was a disappointment. It did everything right, but it was a boring game. It felt soulless, there was nothing that stood out about the game, it was like Capcom went down a checklist of how to make a game. DMC 3 was the best in the franchise.

I too am fully optimistic about this new DmC. One thing I don't get is why there's so much hate towards Ninja Theory.

THEY'RE BEING PAID TO DO A JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just like anyone else in the industry or in life, if you're working for someone and they're paying you, then it's your job to fulfill their request. Don't sit there and b!$@# and complain about Ninja Theory when Capcom were the ones who HIRED THEM TO REBOOT DMC. Personally I would have picked Platinum games, but I guess there's bad blood between them and Capcom seeing how many of them once worked for Capcom, but a job's a job.

And don't hate and complain about their game when you haven't even played it. Turning this into an origin story over a reboot doesn't make sense, because Dante is older in the previous games and knows he's half demon, so how can they go back and change that, unless he loses his angel powers in this or future games.

Speaking of story, it's nice that DmC will finally have one, because the previous DMC games have some of the most uninspired stories of action gaming. DMC 3 only had a decent story because it involves Dante and Virgil, but if you look beyond that you realize the entire DMC3 is about Dante scaling a tower to fighter Virgil, what's good about that story.

You speak of intelligence in this video. Most of the people complaining about the changes have to be adults, and as adults you all should be ashamed of yourselves. Too many of so called DMC fans are filled with so much hate and nagging over a freaking video game. Stop it.

Kevin ButIer4530d ago

DMC4 was a real shame, i was so pissed when you find out that dantes levels are the same but backwards... i mean FU capcom how cheap is that

Pozzle4526d ago

"DMC4 was a disappointment and Capcom knows it. 3 was the best in the series and 1 is great too. But 2 and 4 were just not good. DMC should stick with the reboot statement, that way they can start anew and ignore those 2 black sheep."

I don't necessarily think that means Capcom need to abandon the original series entirely. Capcom have invented a great history, characters and gameplay with the DMC series. They just need to learn how to implement it properly. They were on the right track with DMC3. So it would be a shame if they abandoned it completely in favor of the reboot.

i'll be straight up with this and i like what they doing with the game what i dont like is what they doing with Capcom's Dante and we cant all blame NT on this cuz really Capcom has approved of it but its like MG Rising a dif. company gets the game and do their thing i have no prob with it but they didnt try to change Raiden basically they just change the story a little and ppl are pissed but its better off than this game to be honest either way i'll buy it play it and sell it off thats about it nuff said

lol...So true

It seems like NT don't even know what they want, it's like "Oh crap what we said last time isn't calming down fans, you know if this game does crap in sales were finished....better say something else"

I just hope to god that the people who feel the same will stick to their guns and not buy it and the people who are in two minds will just WAIT and HANG ON for it to go in the bargain bin.

dmc will do poorly in sales, NT will be ruined bascialy wishing that they just stuck to Heavenly Sword 2, Capcom will loose money and will make it so they will stop using western developers any more thus them getting a massive wake up call for next gen so they go back to their old ways what made them so great in the first place.

If we want Capcom to change, we have to. If we want a new DMC 5 game we have to make that happen and the only way we have doing that is by having control over the sales. That's why I hate the people who moan and then go "Well I have to give it a try" and buy it on day one....even if you still don't like it all your doing is giving NT and Capcom a happy sale.

Anyway I liked the video BlackBible, much better then HipHopGamer or any other gamer videos you find on N4G.....your videos just seem more down to earth if you know what I mean

FunAndGun4531d ago

definitely agree with your last part about BlackBible....dude needs a tripod though!

Frankfurt4531d ago

It's Capcom's fault, not NT. NT has got nothing to do with the planning and decision-making. Or maybe yoiu have missed the dozens of terrible choices Capcom has made in the last couple years?

BLACKBIBLE4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

Thanks for the kind words guys. Truth be told I'm getting tired of developers, BSing's us like we're stupid. I rather them say "We're changing Dante deal with it!" then what they are doing now. All this game is, is a New I.P milking of the name Dante. Dev's new damn well that we were going to be pissed at Dantes new look. So they came up with these ridiculous story arch to save face.

@FunAndGun You're right about me need a Tripod LOL

FunAndGun4531d ago

lol, either that or it was one hell of a tremor!

keep doing your thing man.

zerocrossing4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

Im totally with you on this.

DMC is one of my favourite franchises and I hate what NT are doing to it, not only have they lied to us and passed our concerns off as petty fanboy cries, but they seem content on continuing to do so.

As a new IP the game looks interesting, but as a DMC game it looks like a joke IMO.

thaking1554531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

Just call this a different game and make Devil May Cry 5 a sequel not a prequel. That's all I ask for, not a prequel that completely changes that backstory... That's been fleshed out and layed in stone... Oh wait...

But seriously not excited about this game being that it is called and considered a DMC game.

HD Collection here I come!

tiffac0084531d ago

They could have made their jobs easier if they:

-Just didn't touch the original character design and the origin of Dante and then rebooted the series.

or

-Could have just said this is set in an alternate universe from the beginning because they don't want to be insensitive to the fans of DMC by totally disregarding the original universe.

I have a feeling this latest clarification from NT came from what they saw with Metal Gear: Rising Reveangance, where Kojima and Platinum games confirmed the game as a spin-off rather than a canon to the original series, making the blow to the MGS fans significantly less shocking since the original timeline is kept and remains untouched.

zerocrossing4531d ago (Edited 4531d ago )

I agree, If NT and Capcom stated from the start that DmC would be set in a alternate reality I would have been OK with it.

but then they came out with it's a "Reboot" like the franchise really needed one? and now Dante is a Angel/Devil on top of being a emo/punk druggie, I mean WTF? and now suddenly this game is a origin story! I'm gonna pass on this and maybe get it second hand either way Capcom and NT won't be getting any of my hard earned cash ;D

VileAndVicious4528d ago

@tiffac008

"They could have made their jobs easier if they:

-Just didn't touch the original character design and the origin of Dante and then rebooted the series."
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Ummm... you do realize NT are contracted to work under capcom for this game right?? Meaning for the time being they are employees of Capcom. Capcom told NT to change Dantes design. Whens the last time you told your boss that you didnt want to do what he/she told you to do?

Also it is capcom and NOT NT that decided to make this a reboot/prequel/preboot/alterna te universe/ whatever it is now. You guys are like angry villagers with torches and pitchforks. Your angry but you dont even know who to be mad at.

Im not saying NT are the most likable developers but geeze cut them some damn slack. Half of the things you guys keep accusing them of arent even their fault.

tiffac0084528d ago (Edited 4528d ago )

The only time I mentioned NT specifically was regarding how Kojima pro and Plat games did with MGR:R

I apologize for not putting Capcom in my comment and probably is the reason for the confusion but if your looking for real haters around here who doesn't know the facts, your barking at the wrong tree.

I'll be playing the HD collection first.

J86blum4531d ago

Thats all I need, until a proper DMC title is made, DMC4 im very meh about, I have it cause im a fan, but I don't like the new lead. DMC5 should be Dante, and Vergil I don't care how outlandish the story has to be to bring vergil back as long as they do it.

kingPoS4531d ago

I've only played DMC1 briefly on the ps2, I also have the DMC4 demo. So it's practically new to me. ^_^ It's new if you haven't played it yet.

That's why I like all these HD collections.
Games like Jax & Daxter.(only had the 1st one)

How is it going to sell well when it's also releasing on gamepass 🤔

Sephiroushin6d ago

Meant better to sell the studio and not closing it 🤦🏻 not to sell more games….
and games are sold anyways, you can buy it on xbox (not recommended if you got gamepass) but many pc gamers prefer to buy on steam than deal with the xbox app or pc gamepass!

On a side note to OP, the sales of studios wont happen though, especially when they want to retain the IPs, and well nobody is gonna buy a studios without its IPs; the other publishers that want a certain dev from the studio that are closing on their team can try to grab them as soon as they see they notice of the studio.

RaidenBlack6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

@Sephiroushin
Well hypothetically speaking, Ninja Theory can be sold to Sony at a lower rate sans the Hellblade IP.
Sony can then welcome them to work on the Heavenly Sword IP, which they still own.
Will be a nice proposition for Sony who can continue to offer a God of War-like hack n slash in their portfolio via Heavenly Sword 2, whilst Cory Barlog & co. decides to take a break from the God of War IP & venture some other genres.
On top of that, Ninja Theory was also interested in a sequel to Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and such Sony can come to a deal with Namco Bandai regarding the Enslaved IP.

badz1496d ago

selling the studio wouldn't be an attractive offer unless they come with their IPs. MS wants to keep these IPs, so even if MS is selling just the studio, no one would wants them

Lightning777d ago

Because they're next come next year. HB2 won't hit some impossible metric within MS so they're getting axed in 2025. Leave gaming now MS.

XiNatsuDragnel7d ago

Ninja theory might as well be gone in 2025 at this rate

notachance6d ago

Every xbox studio is in danger now because there’s just no way they’re gonna rake in big money from game sales because of gamepass, even CoD was rumored to not come to gamepass because it would canibalize their sales number.

neutralgamer19926d ago

If they are smart they don’t put COD on GP day one. It’s one of the best selling games on yearly basis

Hofstaderman6d ago

Satya will make sure that doesnt happen. As you rightly put it; why kill the cash cow?

But then again, it is MS after all.....

thesoftware7306d ago

I agree and disagree. They should not put it on GP, but CoD makes real money from the overpriced MTX that people buy for over a year. They also have it all linked up to the Mobile CoD, which will incentivize Twitch spending from consumers.

neutralgamer19926d ago

Software

That’s true but keep in mind COD is the best selling or top 3 selling game every year. So yes micro transactions money is there but so are billions more

They should have tiers of GP subscriptions and the higher end tier received AAA games while everyone else gets them in 60 days

MontyeKristo6d ago

Wouldn't putting it on Gamepass be smarter? Cod is typically played, I believe, for far longer than 6 months.. if you get everyone playing the game for a year, on Gamepass, you've essentially doubled your profit. $10 a month for a year $120 compared to selling the game once for $60.

Not to mention MT's, on top of it. Sell on PS5, PC and Switch, keep it on Gamepass for Xbox and PC. Much smarter in my opinion..

-Foxtrot6d ago

Also if you punish a studio for releasing a great critically acclaimed game which won some awards then what chance does anyone have

Elda6d ago

After this mess, I highly doubt the next installment of COD will be on Gamepass day one. It'll probably land on Gamepass 6 months after release date.

Noskypeno6d ago

Like I said earlier, I wouldn't even mind. There's a good selection of games on GP already, and it gives me time to play my backlog of games while allowing the games that need to sell millions of copies to make a profit a chance to succeed, a win win scenario.

badz1496d ago

not putting CoD on GP is sort of a violation of their own marketing though. they said ALL MS 1st party games will be on GP day 1, not some. CoD is 1st party, so to not put it on GP day 1 would be considered as false marketing.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 6d ago
Rynxie6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

Ninja theory games were never big sellers. I could be wrong, but I doubt hellblade 2 will sell millions. I would rather they go independent and make heavenly sword 2.

solideagle6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

heavenly sword is Sony owned IP. this will never happen as original didn't sell enough...

Wikipedia: "In 2008, it was reported that a sequel to Heavenly Sword was in-development at SCE Studio Cambridge, but was canceled due to Sony no longer seeing it as a commercially viable product"

Flewid6386d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I remember. I feel like the amount of time & technology that has passed would make a sequel a big seller now. The game has enough legacy recognition to build hype.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC26d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos25d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga25d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer26d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey60226d ago (Edited 26d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya26d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde26d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP26d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.
