Destructoid Review: Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand

You may not be aware of it but EA just took a 2.7 GB dump on your hard drive. Within the latest patch for Battlefield 3 lies its first expansion Back to Karkand (B2K, brah!) Far less ambitious than the Vietnam expansions of the series’ past, B2K is an effort at mixing some old maps (all taken from Battlefield 2) with some new tech and ideas.

Destructoid review's make Gamespot look good. After reading the MW3 review, followed by the embarrassing editorial defending it, the site lost all credibility.

coolbeans4516d ago

I'm guessing everyone you disagree with loses credibility in your eyes.

KrystofKage14516d ago

Let's pretend I am, what about the masses who also agree? Are you going to pretend they are just narrow-minded jerks as well? Whenever a publication has to post an article defending their views, usually there is something wrong with that. Especially when the article essentially calls anyone who disagrees with them hipsters who only hate on MW3 because it's cool to do so.

And to compare it to Half-life was borderline trolling. Half-Life innovated, MW3 imitated.

Agent-864516d ago

@KrystofKage1, I'm with you. They gave MW3 a 9.5 while only giving BF3 a 7.5. Wow! Giving a tired retread a 9.5? That's just "opposite land" in my view. And, now, only giving B2K a 7? What a bunch of bozos!

coolbeans4516d ago

"Let's pretend I am..."

I found this a funny way to open your statement.

"Whenever a publication has to post an article defending their view, usually there is something wrong with that."

You're going to have to give proof of this to back up an insinuation like this. Whenever publications do this, it's normally to dive deeper into a review to allow the publication to deal with the usually heated traffic. Give a game 'too low of a score' by so many or too high, and usually the average site goers are interested to hear even more about this product before losing sixty dollars. Publication's examining the game even furthur with a follow up is a good thing.

"...the article essentially calls anyone who disagrees with them hipsters who only hate on MW3 because it's cool to do so."

Look at your first statement! All you do is state one sentence about Destructiod losing credibility because of the opinion of one reviewer and you'll probably get bubbles by a few n4g posters. Knowing this and how often the most popular statement is simply a trolling article, how can one not assume everyone's just hating on it to be cool? I'm not saying there's legitimate complaints against the CoD series' progression, but the majority making those complaints can rarely make a normal sentence (ie "CoD IZ STUPEED!").

"And to compare it to Half-life was borderline trolling."

I'd say that's a very disagreeable comparison, but trolling? Did you...*sigh*...nevermind, the irony's kind of overwhleming at this point.

KrystofKage14516d ago

"I found this a funny way to open your statement."
Ya, it is. Because it shows even if I was the antichrist, my point is solid: the review was turd, and the majority agreed.

"You're going to have to give proof of this to back up an insinuation like this. Whenever publications do this, it's normally to dive deeper into a review to allow the publication to deal with the usually heated traffic"
-Gamespot for one. And whenever a publication does it, it's to defend itself. Nice way to mask it as something else, though. The fact remains that they received enormous negative feedback.

"how can one not assume everyone's just hating on it to be cool? "
-With that said, you are either an editor of Destructoid, or an Activision plant. Or desperate to prove a point you know is dumb. Yes, this is one big conspiracy, we all hate MW3 because it's so cool!

"I'd say that's a very disagreeable comparison, but trolling? Did you...*sigh*...nevermind, the irony's kind of overwhleming at this point. "
-I agree, the irony of your comments are overwhelming.

coolbeans4515d ago (Edited 4515d ago )

- Your point just shows how Destructoid's follow-up rings true (in most cases). In three posts, you've made NO agruements against the context of either this review or MW3's review that you're blantantly trashing. How can you possibly think your point is solid by looking at your previous statements?

- " And whenever a publication does it, it's to defend itself."

Umm...yeah it is defending its opinion...by diving deeper into the review given (what masking?). You mean to tell me after a review has been given the reviewer can no longer speak about the game or explain certain facets even further as to how he/she arrived at his/her decision? It's absolute nonsense to think a site doing a follow-up to their initial review is a sign of weakness.

Sigh...do you honestly think receiving a huge amount of negative feedback on a review actually shows the quality of a review? Don't you think that comparison, feedback/quality of review, mirrors that of say...sales/quality of game? You mean to tell me that a vocal internet majority, the same majority that's scouring metacritic every second, is really the most rational group of people? Give me a percentage of this "enormous" amount of posters who actually challenge the context of the review AND read the full review.

- "(Your retort>)With that said, you are either an editor of Destructoid, or an Activision plant. . . .Yes, this is one big conspiracy, we all hate MW3 because it's so cool!(<your defense)"

I just felt like giving you an example of what irony is (if you understand my point of view from reading this). I didn't come in here to insinuate MW3 detractors are just hipsters or trying to be cool. I did want to have a rational follow up to your inital statement to see if your point was going anywhere, but-to your own demsie-you only encourage me to expound upon my initial reply to show just how true it rings with most users on here.

venom064515d ago

Destructoid can SUCK A FAT HARD SLOPPY SCHLONG!!! they are STILL all burthurt because they didn't receeive a "review copy" of the game originally, thus the ONLY reason they gave it a low score on their first garbage ass review..... this just part 2 of their whinefest because they didn't get a chance to review it first... Everyone @ desrtuctoid can go to "you know where"....

Battlefield 3 – MAV Exploit to To Be Patched, Missing B2K Vehicles

MP1st - Battlefield 3′s Gameplay Designers, Gustav Halling and Alan Kertz talk MAV exploits and the differences between BF2 versions of the Back to Karkand Maps and their BF3 counter-parts.

FlareDReborn4476d ago

Cannot wait for patch. Body is ready.

dantesparda4475d ago

Im confused? are these updates/patches for the PC version only cuz i think there's only been one update for the PS3 version?

InLaLaLand4475d ago

The PC version is always getting a patch every two weeks I think. I own the PS3 version and yes the PS3 version has only had two updates (the first update was around 200mb at launch).

DICE or people on the battlelog forums are always saying that the updates for PS3/360 take 3 weeks of Q & A. I've seen more news on a lot of updates for MW3 compared to BF3.

dantesparda4475d ago

Thanks for the reply, helped to clear up the picture some more

scrambles4476d ago

Well i guess there'll b less recon hiding up top in Oman.

PPTouch4476d ago

..and in EVERY OTHER MAP!

Zachmo1824476d ago

Yes finally!!! The mav has basically ruined the Xbox version since you almost every round 95% of the people are camping on top of buildings.

SITH4476d ago

I don't care about the Mav exploit. If it stays or goes, it doesn't bother me. All the people using it too my knowledge were still able to be killed.

Yi-Long4475d ago (Edited 4475d ago )

They are usually stupid enough to also place a spawn-point up there, at which point you'll have 3 or 4 of them up on 1 roof trying to snipe, but instead being easy targets.

I actually love having them up there. They can't grab any flags, and you can just shoot them off with tanks, rockets, or snipers. Bad tactics by them. Just keep it in and enjoy watching them selfdestruct.

I'm much more upset about the lack of proper 'Battlefield' maps in the game, instead giving us small maps like Metro, Crossing the Seine, etc etc, just suited for frag-fests. Horrible.

Tagcollector74476d ago

Im ready for a usas 12 frag nerf and taking repair tool out of helicopter cockpits

ElliePage4476d ago

The MAV exploit was fun to use though. I hope they still allow the MAV to roadkill people though.

cyborg69714475d ago

The road kills are bullshit. Just another noob tool for those who can't kill with a gun.

BraveToaster4475d ago

Have you even tried to kill anyone with the MAV? It's harder than to kill someone with a gun... Also if you manage to get killed by the MAV you must be retarded or deaf

Battlefield 3: Back to Karkand review (Hooked Gamers)

Hooked Gamers writes: "In truth, the DLC, isn’t exactly bringing something - new - to the table. If you have played earlier versions of the Battlefield series, you may feel a slight sense of déjà vu. The DLC adds a number of multiplayer maps from Battlefield 2, but redesigned using the Frostbite 2 engine to make them shine like never before."

And such a speedy review, too. This comes out soon, right? /s

Leon_O_Quinn4502d ago

I believe its already out.

DanSolo4502d ago

Good map-pack and well worth having for those of us who pre-ordered and got it for free.... but over-priced for those people who did not pre-order!

BC2 Vietnam was kind of worth it as it was like an addon... but this is a map-pack so costs too much. That said I prefer the maps to the ones that came with BF3.

Hellsvacancy4502d ago

Operation Metro is AWESOME IF its full of decent players that know how to attack/defend

Hufandpuf4502d ago

"That said I prefer the maps to the ones that came with BF3. "

personally i couldn't disagree with you more. Yeah the map pack is a little overpriced, but considering the price of map packs from other games, it's more bang for your buck. Also, the maps are pretty great and an excellent purchase if you want to extend your experience.
