Can Marcus Fenix actually be classed as a Space Marine? He's a COG soldier and has never, as far as I'm aware, been in space. What do you guys think, is he a space marine?

PirateThom4585d ago

Considering one of the stipulations at the start was that they had to murder something on another planet and, if I remember, Fenix was born on Sera making his inclusion nonsense, even if he is a marine.

WolfLeBlack4585d ago (Edited 4585d ago )

Exactly, by that one stipulation they've ruled out Marcus Fenix.

The damning sentence states:"as long as you've performed some act of murder beyond your homeworld". Since Marcus was born on Sera and the events of the entire Gears of war series take place on Sera, he can't qualify for this list.

Do I get to call fail, now?

Oh, and the Locust are not aliens, either.

user98412884585d ago

right cogs haven't left the planet and locust aren't aliens they are from under the ground...

ATi_Elite4585d ago

If I had to go to space and go to war I would bring the Doom Guy and The Ultra Marines along with Commander Sheppard with me!!

Once the Ultra marines and Doom Guy wipe out the enemy Sheppard could negotiate the enemies surrender!

How come no Gordon Freeman? He did travel to the Zen world to kill the Nihilanth!! Just a thought!

dirthurts4585d ago

I think the Humans are the aliens in this scenario. Consiidering they originated from Earth, I'm imagining they populated serra sometime after without knowing the locust lived beneath the surface.
That's why they are "space marines". The homeworld or at least planet of origin was Earth.

PirateThom4585d ago

But, Fenix and humanity have set up roots on Sera, if Fenix never leaves, you can't exactly say he's from Earth. We're talking generations here, not just humans landed and colonised the planet in a few weeks.

Hell, they even said the Helghast invaded Earth, which they didn't, it was Vekta. ScrewAttack really need to learn more about the story of games.

majiebeast4585d ago (Edited 4585d ago )

I loved number 1 and helghast being classified as Spatzis.

palaeomerus4585d ago (Edited 4585d ago )

So the best space marine is the actor who played a pilot and a pilot/ESP samurai ? 'Kay.

And the only mention that the guys who actually STARTED it all (Jame's Cameron's Colonial Marines in Aliens) get is #10, a guy with a robot arm in the Aliens Vs. Predator arcade game?

Bucky O'Hare?

Gogs are space troops? Aren't they more like hypogeal/subterranean marines? And aren't COG troops they more like a declining garrisoning army than a self sufficient expeditionary force meant to fight overseas or at least outside of the homeland? I think someone has 'sci-fi trooper' mixed up with Space Marine.

And finally Master Chief was a Special Operations Navy type. He certainly fought with marines but he wasn't one himself.

Turok should've been on the list.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan22d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Well, 4-Infinite dropped the ball massively so don't worry.

Sgt_Slaughter67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

Not really. 4, 5, MCC, and Infinite are only remembered for their shortcomings and failures when the franchise was purely known for being a system seller and an all-time great. There's a reason 1, 2, 3, and Reach are looked back on fondly, and it's not because of nostalgia.

FinalFantasyFanatic67d ago

I don't know of anyone that speaks fondly of the later Halo games, I would like to play 5, but I know it's not good, and I'm just waiting on Infinite to hit my strike price. I played MCC a lot later after it came out, so must of those bugs/issues were gone by the time I played it.

PhillyDonJawn67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

To say it dropped the massively is just not true. Many in the community hold H5 as the best mp mechanics in the entire series and say its what 4 should've been. Its campaign was trash but the MP is Fantastic and many faces of the community still play today and it only made 500mill in the matter of months but sure it dropped the ball massively. 4 was hated due to all the changes at once. And CoD like feature and rightful get hate but it's campaign story was liked by a majority of ppl. 343 hasn't nailed ot 100% but they get 1 thing perfect but F up in other places. Infinite had a good campaign and design but the story was a mess. The MP improves upon what Halo 3 was and is what many ppl wanted to go back to but it lacked content severely. So massively aint the word. Dropping the ball massively is when it's pure trash and unplay/unenjoyable. Most ppl blind by nostalgia so soon as 1 thing aint the same its hated cause Halo set the bar so high
FYI reach was not that good.

Dead IP, time to invent something new.

kaos8967d ago

Maybe they can have ID or one of the COD studios help 343 with this series.
