When Skyrim was announced, Bethesda said that their intent with this fifth Elder Scrolls game was to recapture what made Morrowind great. Why Morrowind? Oblivion sold well, had a thriving mod scene on the PC, and drew immense critical acclaim, after all. So why was Bethesda so intent to step back and draw inspiration from an earlier entry in the series?
Interview with Stephen Russell, Actor for (Nick Valentine, Codsworth, My Handy) in Fallout 4 which is a vast open world role playing game set in the apocalyptic wastes of Boston, the Commonwealth. Virtuos is currently working on a multiplatform Unreal Engine 5 remake, which is rumored to be The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
I thought they’d go for Morrowind first to be honest but this is a welcoming surprise to tide us over before ES6
Unreal Engine isn't efficient for open world games, so I question the reliability of this story.
Hopefully modders can fix the aged combart in this game if this is true. Enemies leveling up with you broke and defeated the whole purpose of leveling up.
Replaying Skyrim after 13 years is a reminder of the progress made in western RPGs over the last decade, but also what's been lost.
"When Skyrim was announced, Bethesda said that their intent with this fifth Elder Scrolls game was to recapture what made Morrowind great. Why Morrowind?"
Answer: Because Morrowind is considered by many,to be the greatest RPG ever made. Oblivion was focused on being more accessible. There was a lot of hand holding and simplification. This was to attemp to address the cry babies who should not be playing RPG's to begin with.
Some complained about not being able to kill a worm or a rat even though they had a sword. Morrowind took developing you character seriously. If you did not train or have natural skills for a sword, you would not be effective using a sword. Some complained aboutgetting lost and having to walk to far and fight the wild animals and annoying birds. You actually had to use the map and navigate on your own. There were no arrows pointing to your next quest. I hope those who never played Morrowind are begining to see "Why Morrowind?". You could also steal and sell what ever from who ever and sell it. You could rob the prisons and gard houses. Just don't get caught. You could sell and use drugs. You hand to learn who you could sell drugs to. There was racism, homosexuality, gangs and tentions between different factions. They were unique, powerful items that you would never see if you skipped certain quest. No AI auto leveling. Your hard work paid off, as if you acquired all of these powerful items and made enough for training and enchantment, you became like a god. I actually could fly when my daedric shield was equipped. It was enchanted with levetation.
All of that and more was taken away with Oblivion.
