3 Things that will Hold Battlefield Back from Trouncing Modern Warfare

PlanetXbox360: "With October only a few weeks away, DICE's highly anticipated military shooter Battlefield 3 is nearly upon us. Launching just two weeks ahead of the titan that is Modern Warfare 3, there's no doubt that being the first to retail is a huge win for Electronic Arts, but will it be enough for this underdog to find some much needed success?

There are a number of awesome things that Battlefield 3 has going for it, namely a beautiful graphics engine sporting gorgeous lighting effects, unparalleled levels of destructibility and superb animation. But despite these advantages, there are a number of things holding the franchise back from putting its competitor in their "rightful place"."

I can add a couple... multiplayer for one; but BF3's graphics look so sick... I'll play em both!

TheFirstClassic4621d ago

BF's multiplayer has much more depth and variety than cod. So no, in my opinion.

Lazy_Sunday4621d ago (Edited 4621d ago )

1) Death penalty (wait time before spawn will kill out people without attention spans).
2) Large maps (which will kill out people who want their quick kill fix).
3) Ranked players have advantage over new players (which will kill out people who want to feel like they're having fun instead of just blatantly getting owned).

Runner's Up: Only headshots are 1-shot kills with snipers, all body shots take 2+ shots. WTF DICE?!

Shackdaddy8364621d ago

@Lazy Basically if you don't have a serious ADD problem then you're fine. Even then, they have ways to get into the action real fast...

Moragami4620d ago

BF3 also has TDM on smaller maps. Whether you prefer BF3's conquest mode or CoD's DM mode, you can get that from BF3.

1) Being good 2) Being a game that takes certain amounts of skill to do well in 3) Being innovative(in the real sense, not adding a new type of gun scope sense)

mr.selfdestruct4621d ago

I really dont care if BF3 trounces MW3 or not. I know BF3 will be getting my money and personnaly cannot wait for this game. MW3 I may get somewhere much later down the road.

UltimaEnder4622d ago

Marketing is number one - which comes down to money and retailer power, Activision has a lot, so does EA but guess where Modern Warfare 3 will be sitting in 90% of stores?

Mykky4622d ago

MW will definitely win the sales, but Battlefield probably is a much better game in every aspect. MW is just like the Fifa games, something everyone buys every year because all their friends do the same.

alexcosborn4621d ago

Better in every aspect? Even close quarters twitch based gameplay?

I think not.

Mykky4621d ago

I based my argument upon several articles stating what I said, as I'm not a CoD player and have little knowledge of the subject. I'll just edit it to a better game overall instead.
Just to make it clear, I'm not a Battlefield player and neither a CoD player, making my argument look invalid but Battlefield 3 clearly looks better in my opinion.

It'll be fun to see who gets the highest review scores of the two!

Moragami4620d ago

try the different modes of BF3 before you answer. BF3 has team death match, with no vehicles and smaller maps, it may just outdo Call of Duty in close quarters twitch play.

You won't know until it's released, so don't be so sure of yourself.

LaurenKB1234622d ago

It will sell well but not as good as MW3, it may score better though...

alexcosborn4622d ago

You don't think to larger more tactical online gameplay experiences will deter more casual online gamers?

The simplicity of Call of Duty's core gameplay is something that Battlefield sorely lacks.

Hufandpuf4621d ago

I know. That's whats holding BF back.

limewax4621d ago

Oh man here we go, now comes the inevitable "Battlefield must cater to these CoD gamers needs" ending in the complete destruction of anything resembling BF. Could we not just admit they are 2 different games, and the only thing holding either back is a persons taste in games

Mykky4621d ago

That would be boring limewax, no discussion no hype. Different tastes is indeed the soul key of a discussion but something can still be better even if someone like the other better.

CAPSLOCKFURY4621d ago

It can keep lacking it. If I want to play Call of Duty, I'll put in Call of Duty. I don't want to play Call of Duty when I put in Battlefield.

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga2d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

InUrFoxHole1d 19h ago

You think Phil did that? 🤣

MrBaskerville19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole4h ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville19h ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens523d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_2d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville19h ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM2d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka2d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_2d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.

Well, anything to make those shareholders happy, I guess. They're all that matters in this industry nowadays.

EA stocks haven't been profitable in over 5yrs. They better hope Take-two don't get the FIFA license lol.
