Sonic Generations Demo – Another Disappointment Approaches

SEGA has a beautiful way of announcing a new Sonic game just about every year and claiming that the newest title is going to be THE Sonic game that fans have been hoping for. And with each release, SEGA beautifully disappoints almost everybody. To their credit Sonic Unleashed, Sonic 4, and Sonic Colors have all received marginally increasing review scores compared to the 2006 “Sonic the Hedgehog”. It is now time for Sonic Generations to step up to the plate.

I loved the Sonic Generations demo, Sonic is back! :D
Sonic colours is also a must play, the gameplay is very good.

... but it's not great yet. Gameplay still felt a bit 'stiff' at times, like coming off a bounce, or not being able to get into a ball while in a looping and such. And again you have to keep the direction pushed to remain speed.

Like I said, it's a step in the right direction, but gameplay isn't yet on the same level as Sonic 1, 2 and CD.

I don't know what you got all those disagrees for. I picked up on every detail you just noted. For some reason, Sega refuses to use the old momentum physics. It was even off in. Sonic 4.

Agreed. Better than nothing but It does not play with that fluid momentum type gameplay of the genesis games. My goodness is it that hard? Mario for the ds on a 2d plain plays just like the old games. The physics system must be tweeked and return to the original. I cannot go through a hoop pressing down while in a ball form. Ridiculous. They have to understand that if they are replicating the 2d game REMAIN COMPLETELY FAITHFUL to the original. Again, is it that hard when even the DS sprite based games play properly for the most part.

I believe this could be the sonic game that people have been waiting for..excellent game with memories of the old ones, But one thing i am not sure about the 3D bits...

Hell no, Sonic Generations was amazing. For the first time since the Dreamcast I'll be getting a Sonic game on release date.

Yeah, I'm sorry who ever rote this might as well take it down cause Sonic Generations (demo) is so fun..Hell i play it everyday just to get a understanding of the level before time runs out.

Funny thing is that when the title screen shows up it BLASTS the loud azz guitar, and it really is set to be way to loud, because you tv could be at a normal level and that song would be so loud still. I will always remember the title screen for SA because it was so damn loud, all the time.

I bought Sonic Unleashed from the bargain bin... a disappointment.

So I think Generations will be the first really great Sonic game I've bought since the Dreamcast times.

For christ's sake, stop QQing. The demo is fun, that is all it matters. SEGA has the courtesy of allowing their fans to sample their upcoming project. Take the demo for what it is worth.

the game has sloppy frame rates, with I have a pet peeve about and the demo crashed midway through on my own experience. not feeling that good about the game now...

The demo was great, the only issue I ran into was at the beginning it was easy to lose track of Sonic when he was running fast due to the background. Other than that, it was really fun and the landscape was beautiful!

I'm kind of worried though because the game didn't showcase any of the "new Sonic" stuff. They did the same thing with the Unleashed demo IIRC. The problem with that game was the day time Sonic stuff was awesome and reminded everyone why the love Sonic but the night time stuff sucked and reminded everyone why they still hate Sonic!

New sonic gameplay will be more or less identical to daytime play on unleashed, its even the same engine, so really its a win/win. The two best types of Sonic gameplay ever created mashed together

I played the demo, plays a lot like Sonic 2... but, I really had no fun with it... I honestly don't think I like Sonic 1 or 2 as I got them free again with PS+ and cannot enjoy them. At least Sonic CD and Sonic 3 and Knuckles are still good... aren't they?

ive been playing sonic games recently through the ps plus (sonic 1 & 2) and i love those still to this day. but this latest one is nothing special. i suppose it has to do with the nostalgia factor but even with its hd overhaul i feel it tries to hard, its hard to focus on the lush backgrounds and the gameplay didnt seem too fun.

i loved it. i have a few problems with it though:

1. the momentum is off. its there, but IMO theres too much of it. i dont know how people can say theres none - if you press across to run for 2 seconds, sonic keeps running for another 3 seconds after you let go, and thats not even after hitting a decent speed.

2. the framerate. when you start motoring, its not refreshing fast enough and you get a bit of a stuttering look.

other than that, will be buying on day 1. i made the mistake of doing that with sonic 4 too, but im confident this will be a good purchase.
