DarkCryo is working on a Firefly MMO

The Internet loves its Nathan Fillion and Joss Whedon outer space western Firefly. Some would say they are obsessed, but at least a video game is coming out of it right? The folks at DarkCryo seem to think so, because they’re devoting their time to that very thing.

Wait a minute. According to their site, one of the racial options is Reaver... that doesn't make any sense from an RPG perspective, IMHO.

ares21al4692d ago

It really doesn't. Good Point

SynGamer4692d ago

Well, Reavers could easily be the 'Tank'. Their strength and abilities could grow, increasing strength but at a sacrifice to intelligence...?

Christopher4692d ago (Edited 4692d ago )

Yeah, if you ignore what Reavers are in the story, they could be.

But, roleplaying a Reaver is like roleplaying a Zombie. The Zombie wants to eat your flesh, the Reaver wants to strip your skin from your body and possibly feed on bits of you.

So, playing one in a game with a large focus on storytelling and your involvement in it doesn't make much sense. You wouldn't go to a quest giver and talk to them, you would attack them. You wouldn't have any goals other than attacking the ship that became a blip on your screen or the town that happens to be in your randomly chosen path to carnage and destruction.

In the concept of an MMO where you accept quests, have directives, work strategically with others, look for treasure and money, concern themselves with growing as an individual... it just doesn't work. That's not who they are, what they were meant to be.

Reavers work as NPCs, people who attack everyone equally and only works with their kind.

This would be most excellent. Now the question remains; character look-alikes?

fox is evil for canceling the show

fluffydelusions4692d ago

FOX screws over all kinds of interesting shows and you know the end is near when they move it to the Friday prime time spot.

vickers5004692d ago (Edited 4692d ago )

Agreed. Here's just a few of the more notable great shows they have cancelled:

Futurama
Arrested Development (greatest comedy ever)
Wonderfalls
Family Guy
Undeclared (Judd Apatow comedy, wasn't great, but was pretty good imo)
Firefly (had to list it)

There are a list of a lot more, but I've never seen or heard of the rest of them so I cannot put them in the list.

But seriously, f*ck fox. Arrested Development was pretty much the greatest/smartest sitcom/comedy on television, Firefly was pretty much the best scifi/drama tv show, Futurama and Family Guy were some of the best animated comedies out at the time (though Family Guy sucks now, it was brilliant back then).

They have cancelled some of the greatest shows to ever grace television. I hate them.

lil Titan4691d ago

@vickers500 dont forget Fringe even though there are some talks about it being renewed and 24 but i understand why 24 was canceled, Jack had to take out Osama

Hellsvacancy4692d ago

It sucked they cancelled it, the movie wasnt bad either

Wizziokid4692d ago

awesome, it's a great universe which would make a great mmo if done by the right people.

bring back the show next?

Biggunz4692d ago

The Pixelitis Podcast Ep. 31 – D*** Vision

Podcasting is a beautiful thing. Every once in a while, when a group of friends gets together on a weekly basis to talk about videogames, a phrase gets uttered that is so silly – so ridiculous – that it just has to be the title of the show.

On this week’s Pixelitis Podcast, the phrase that stuck out had to do with male genitalia. Which in hindsight, is pretty much par for the course. We won’t say who says it, but it was bad enough that it kinda derailed the show for a hot minute.

When Andrew Martins, Karen Rivera and Tom Farndon aren’t dicking around on this show this week, they managed to talk about more Xbox rumors, a Firefly MMO hoax and same-sex lovin’ in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

As much as I love Firefly, I doubt it'll be a long term success as an MMO.

I want it to succeed, but the MMO market is in transition right now. WoW is the only 'big winner', with the rest fighting over scraps. When a high quality Star Wars MMO from one of the worlds most renowned devs is struggling, then realistically what chance does another Sci-Fi MMO have?

Good luck to them.

EvilCackle4130d ago

I think it really depends on execution. It doesn't matter how popular the license or the premise is if the game sucks.
