SEGA and Sonic Team have found the perfect classic and modern combination and the future for Sonic as a franchise is looking very bright indeed. We now have a classic Sonic game with classic Sonic mechanics for the modern age.
Sonic the Hedgehog has a long and turbulent history in videogames, but which are the best games featuring the blue bur?
Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.
Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.
Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Top 7 for me
7 cd
6 mania
5 Frontiers
4 sonic 3
3 sonic 1
2 sonic and knuckles
1 sonic 2
Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭
The divide between both iterations of Sonic is now reaching spin-off territory, and the way Sega is handling it is both a blessing and a curse.
BLG writes: "With the success of the films and the promise of Frontiers, it’s possible that we’re ushering in a new golden age of Sonic the Hedgehog. While Sega is looking forward, the company is also looking back. It’s giving us Sonic Origins, a retooled collection of Genesis classics. However, this package fails to provoke a burning question: what’s the best Sonic handheld game?"
There's something not right about it.
Playing the demo the physics are not right. Say when you bounce off a spring vertically, you feel like your stuck in a slightly magnetized tunnel, you cant really go where you please. This applies to running and jumping etc.
Secondly, the graphics are beautiful, possibly too beautiful. It actually hurt my eyes when moving at high speed lol. It's a game that looks good at standstill or a screenshot (when at high speed).
The music was the best thing it had going, but why would you buy a brand new game just to hear Green Hill Zone?
In terms of controls I have found them to be fine. I've not had any issues with the running and jumping, been easy enough to fly through the levels. Jumping of the springs does feel different from jumping off enemies and coin screens etc - there is a great sense of speed when you are coming off them but sonic is still controlable fine. Overall the physics felt great and ive been speeding through the level numerous times now :)
The graphics are completly amazing lol you got that right. If anything it has a proper sense of speed this time like a sonic game should. Got to say it's not given me any issues with my eyes though lol
In terms of the music, this is a title with both classic and modern sonics, and therefore has both classic and modern elements. Playing Green Hill Zone as classic Sonic with completly different music just wouldn't work. The stage and the music go hand in hand so to speak and propbebly and is one of the most iconic elements to Sonic in general.
I wish Sega would stop living in the past and remaking sonic games. The modern sonic remakes (in this game) are fine, because they have new areas, but how many times do we need to play green hill!?
Isn't that what Sonic 4 was for, or any of the other sonic collects games?!
