Wet 2 Dries Itself Off; Appears to be Cancelled

When a sequel to Wet was announced late last year it left many of us scratching our heads wondering first why and secondly if they could make some solid improvements. According to the Linkedln profile of an ex-tech artist from the development team, we don’t need to be confused any more as developer Behaviour Interactive have cancelled Wet 2.

I played the demo for the first game...it was pretty cool, but its not something I'd spend 60 or even 30 dollars on. Its a good bargin bin $10-$15 game though.

dgroundwater4736d ago

I really enjoyed the game. Best rock soundtrack of this gen too! A sequel could have redeemed the IP with most people, perhaps it isn't cancelled yet.

jessupj4736d ago

I thought it was a solid game too. Not as bad as people make out to be.

But yeah, def not worth $60, or $120 in Australia. It's a good rent thought.

"taste my special sauce!!"

mastiffchild4736d ago

I can't agree. It's one of the shoddiest games I've played in a while, in this generation to be fair.

What made it worse was that the premise was OK(not the plot, mind, the plot was absolute cack and all the acting was totally dialled in and dead eyed)and that the sliding around, bullet timey action should have been enough to keep you partially interested for most of the game. They HAD the parts for a good game and threw it away.

What we got was half arsed in every way-I've spoken of plot and acting but the controls were woky and unpredictable and often you found yourself, or I did, feeling completely stupid as you ined yourself up for another run and slide just to get into bullet time when it would have made more sense just to cap the remaining idiots in the room. It felt like farce most of the time from the training onwards. If the controls had been slick enough you would have prolly not ended up with the situation too often but because they worked when they feltr like it I was always looking stupid and forcing in another wall run just because the normal shooting was so poor and so discouraged.

Wet as one of the very last games I played through before my 2010 new year resolution of stoppng a daft rule I had about finishing every game I start-and thank God I don't stick to doing that any more!! No more games like Wet to annoy me for ages and stop me playing good games. I know i'm an idiot for ever starting such a regime but as it worked for me with books(means I always gave a slow burner a chance to shine and many, many great books NEED a slow start)but, sadly, games aren't the same and it doesn't work for them. If a game starts shit for a few hours it's not liable tochange much in general and if it did you'd probably know before hand.

Anyway, I realise it's a free world and everything it's just i'm shocked so many of you liked Wet so much. I'd even want my time back if I'd rented it! Might even consider scratching it and reporting it damaged in the hope I might save someone else the pain of playing it!! Only kidding, glad you lot liked it but, seriously, I'll never see why. I'm AMAZED they even thought about a sequel to that mess, it didn't sell well or anything so why were they thinking about a sequel to a game which most people hated, sold poorly, reviewed poorly and the devs showed they couldn't pull it off even with decent tools and a decent premise? why think about a sequel in this case? the world had already spoken and said "no".

jessupj4736d ago

I'm sensing you really hate WET and think it is the embodiment or even the physical manifestation of all that is wrong and evil in all bad games since the beggining of time and any shred of evidence of it's existance should be exterminated and any soul that even dare utter the word "wet" should be burned at the stake then his body mutilated and fed to the crows and dogs of old.

Yes?

Tony P4736d ago

I agree for the most part. It was not a well-made game and it's noticeable in far too many elements of gameplay and design.

However, it would've been fine for them to attempt to correct the flaws in a sequel. If the sequel couldn't get it right... I dunno what to tell you.

Not the first game sequel to get canned or the last.

JaeKuro4736d ago

Meh. I was deeply disappointed by the first one so I wasn't expecting much from a sequel. Sucks that they won't be redeeming themselves though because Wet had potential. At the end of the day, shit happens.

Pintheshadows4736d ago

Didn't mind Wet but it was rough around the edges. Shame we won't see what the sequel could of been. Oh well, worse things have happened.

Jack-H4736d ago

Wah wah wahhhh... I thought the first one had potential(said this elsewhere already) Too bad they pulled the plug, could have been interesting.

The first wasn't that exciting, the gameplay was just screwed up. I must admit that the style did counter this up a bit, if they worked on the gameplay we could have a very good title here.

Jack-H4737d ago

That's basically what I was going to say. I completely agree. I think it had potential and this one Definitely does. Here's hoping.

xAlmostPro4737d ago

Yeah, they had an amazing idea for a game but they completely failed on producing it.

Good concept poorly executed

Soldierone4737d ago

I loved the first one. Had an awesome story and the gameplay was fun as heck. Wasn't trying to be a realistic "AAA" shooter like everything else, which made it ten times better.

Dear Unsuccessful Devs: Don't Give Up!

Lots of great games like Enslaved and Alan Wake didn't get their dues and others just didn't measure up. We look at why their devs shouldn't throw in the towel.

Good read, anything is possible.

BkaY4759d ago

"Some victims of poor sales did nothing wrong, take Ninja Theory's Enslaved or Remedy's Alan Wake for instance. Both top notch titles that pulled down great reviews"

stopped reading after that ... dont compare alan wake with piece of crap, recycled main character chick from Nariko..

i loved every bit of alan wake.. great game... but wrong choice of console...

he failed to mention another great game ... splinter cell conviction..

long story short... ppl wants to play fps thats it... halo or COD.. sad but true

peace

Morbius4204758d ago

oh and nobody plays cod on ps?

BkaY4758d ago

did i mention ps or xbox... ?

it was a general comment...

peace
ps: it was a pro xbox comment...

Bigpappy4759d ago

Games are not cheap to make. Sometimes they have no choice.

cowkimon4759d ago

Seriously. Rockstar once made an unholy Austin Powers game for the GBC. Now they've got Red Dead Redemption, GTA, Bully and soon LA Noire. Even Rome lost a couple wars in its early days.

jbiz3204759d ago

why would you get a disagree for that^^.. i dont get people on this site sometimes.

Ahasverus4759d ago (Edited 4759d ago )

Who the hell planted the idea that Alan Wake was not succesful.... vgchartz? remedy announced lots of time ago they surpassed the 1M mark and it's still selling strong, I understand we all were too busy buying Red Dead Redemption at the time of its release but surely many bought AA later, especially in the very very dry christmas season

Morbius4204758d ago

alan wake failed because most of it's sales occured when the price dropped below $20.

badboy8884759d ago

Alan Wake 2 was announced for the 360 as exclusive are these guys slow.

Op244759d ago

Are you slow? You didn't even read the article. People like you need to learn some core values.
