Sega first to get Adults Only Kinect game rating

Sega has just been awarded a first in the UK where one of its games has been stamped with an Adults Only 18 rating by the British Board of Film Classification. Why is it a first? Because the game is exclusive to Kinect, making this the first hands-free adults only game for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 motion controller.

The game in question is Rise of Nightmares, and from watching the trailer above you can see why it’s just for adults from the sound effects alone. The BBFC says the game has 45 minutes of cutscenes which are sure to be pretty gruesome if they awarded it the highest possible age rating.

3rd time this has been submitted. No other games coming to Kinect or something?

Wenis4774d ago

Aww, you're just mad because you can't call it a casual kinect game. Sorry bud.

Iroquois_Pliskin4774d ago

Awwww, you´re mad because thats probably the only adult game thats going to come out for Kinect

SilverSlug4774d ago

I'm not mad. I'm actually a fan of SEGA horror games and looking forward to it. Where did I say I was mad?

malamdra4774d ago

still casual, all the gore and guts in the world can't make any difference

what makes a game casual or core is the gameplay, not the graphics or the story or the setting

tmoss7264774d ago

@malamdra yes because little kids should TOTALLY play this game. It's completely casual and all the grandmas will be playing it.

Slimshadyn4774d ago

@tmoss

Casual gamers =/= little kids and grandmas
Core gamers =/= adults

"Aww, you're just mad because you can't call it a casual kinect game. Sorry bud"

On what grounds?
Because it has an Adults Only 18 rating?

That's like saying the SAW movies aren't mainstream because they're rated R (US).

You must know all about the gameplay if you're going to say this game isn't casual. Go ahead, inform us. It's "hands-free" so it must be on-rails. What else can you tell us?

evrfighter4774d ago

some mad ps3 fanboys in here

lol

gypsygib4774d ago

Just because it rated M doesn't make it core, what are the controls like?

Note: I'd really love for Kinect to get some great games that I'd like to play. I really am interested in what the gameplay is like. Is it on rails, do I just jump and lean or is their a substantial experience in there.

Its the first AO game for Kinect. Thats gunna get alot of attention whether u like it or not. In case ur nt aware, this is a gaming news site.

tmoss7264774d ago

If this gets AO in America, then isn't it no suppose to released of something? I can't remember the last AO game that I've heard of/seen.

4Sh0w4774d ago

Why so negative? If you dont like kinect, theres no harm in letting the rest of us get excited about a upcoming game. 1st time Ive seen this news but regardless there are plenty of redundant news posts, luckily theyre quite easy to avoid if youre uninterested in them.

Bigpappy4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

Calm down 'Silver'. I am a Kinect owner and had no idea it was submitted before. You are doing a good job at monitoring Kinect submittions, but you needed to catch it it the preview section. This is the most informative one though. So no harm done right?

If done right, this being in first person and really close up with you swinging at some hedious creatures, could be really creappy. But if it is slow cheezy (just hiting targets, then I will pass. Keeping fingers crossed.

SilverSlug4774d ago

No, just run a SEGA blog and I picked up rating info on this very site.

I'm sorry you didn't see the news, just because you didn't doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Jaces4774d ago

Now lets see if it's any good or just a dud with an AO rating.

I'm actually excited about this game :)

More then "Oh just a cool Kinect game" It's an excitement just like any other type of game I was interested in.

Stealth20k4774d ago

this is about as casual as can be. On rails, arm flailing, shitting gameplay, bad story

Burning_Finger4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

that looks awful..

Looks like silent hill on rails.

They even rip-off the nurse seen in 0:15.

Servbot4774d ago

In the end the rating is meaningless. Is there any word on how this game plays? Does it actually let you explore or is it on rails? If it's the latter then I don't see any reason to get excited over this. Kinect has yet to show me that it's a capable hardcore gaming peripheral.

radphil4774d ago

"In the end the rating is meaningless. Is there any word on how this game plays? Does it actually let you explore or is it on rails?"

Just that it's an AO rated game. Apparently it's enough to be excited over, instead of actually knowing the gameplay. =|

radphil4774d ago (Edited 4774d ago )

And the disagrees show how rash and impulsive people are in looking onto things, and thinking that it's an attack onto something.

But hey, keep on with the disagrees. I want to see how far this goes before people actually read without emotion.

Looking back to 2011 and Kinect’s Rise of Nightmares

Jack writes: "First released in September 2011, SEGA’s Rise of Nightmares was made especially for Kinect on Xbox 360. Among the range of games available for the peripheral, it is the least likely title ever made for the Kinect - there’s no dancing, no pets, no sports. (Though by its end, hacking through hordes of re-animated corpses here starts to feel like a sport.)"

rise of nightmares would make a good VR game. Surprised Sega didnt try and remaster it for PSVR. Or... maybe they are working on doing that for PSVR2????

Neonridr967d ago

considering SEGA hasn't made a single title yet for PSVR, I can't imagine why they would pick this one to start TBH.

Not saying I wouldn't love it as I'm a huge horror fan.

5 Horror Games That Deserve Sequels

BD writes: Have you ever fell in love with a television show, spent more time than you would care to admit binging on each of its episodes, only to find out that it’s been cancelled, prematurely and without any real warning? I have, I’ve been burned numerous times, and it never gets any easier. This problem isn’t limited to our favorite TV shows, video games can cause that same abrupt stop, and it often hurts just as much.

As much as I’d like to see another entry in the Condemned, Dino Crisis, or The Suffering series, at the very least, those games got one or more sequels. I’ve decided to eschew horror games that have already seen a follow-up in favor for those that haven’t — the one-offs that deserve to be more than that.

I don't think Alan Wake needs a sequel it would probably just kill it. Alan Wake was good because of its originality, American Nightmare wasn't nearly as good.
