Crytek CEO says console shooters are way behind PCs

I'm not saying FPS on consoles are as good as or better than PC games. But the PS3 can handle a keyboard and mouse. It is certainly capable of running any FPS that PCs can run. So the real problem isn't consoles can't handle them. The real problem is developers aren't making the games. Maybe UT3 will end that.

Bonsai - The PS3 has USB ports and can use Bluetooth so it can support the keyboard and mouse in games. So really that reason isn't good enough anymore. Now developers just need to give gamers that option in their games. Even if most people don't use it at least offer it.

I would have to agree, I mean 2 examples, if you havent been under a rock, Crysis and the upcoming Far Cry 2, look at what they did in those games I mean things like walking in the bushes and the leaves and things like that moving when you touch them, shooting down individual tree limbs, weather effects, things like that. I wouldnt say console FPS is far behind but, for some reason it takes years for console devs to finally start doing what PC games are doing and I hope it changes this time around.

Well, well considering I don't have a $2000 dolar rig, I'll have to say that in my house, console shooters are better.

No doubt they can take $6000 in hardware and get it to run something more impressive than my little PS3 can. But I don't have that $6000 rig.

I do intend to buy a nice PC in another year or so, at that point we should really see PC's pulling ahead. When a new consol is released, it's up to par preaty much, but after a few years then it starts to lag behind.

Buy New PC 2 years later.
Buy Next New Console.

You are selling a game that potentially requires hundreds of dollars in upgrades just to play.

The console shooter may be behind in terms of tech, but a PC shooter like Crysis is a little out of reach for most people. Even with a decent PC!

This is why PC gaming will never take over the console market. It's too unobtainable for the average gamer. PC shooters cater to the hardcore.

"IF" (I will make up my own mind via playing it not talking out my arse) crysis is better than halo 3 I doubt it will be 4600 dollars better. That is 1/5th of of a new mustang better, 10 hookers in vegas better or renting a ferrari for 2 days better. For the price it would cost to play crysis as it has been shown in screen shots i could pay off all of my debt, by some rims for my car and go on a cruise.

I just dumped over 3k into a gaming machine and I have played stalker, bioshock and halo 2 on it. My Xbox and ps3 have seen 10 times this use.

so far we are at around 4600 , we dont have hard drives, a sound card, a mouse, a keyboard, virus software, any games, a mobo, a nice cpu cooler and most people don't even build there own pcs to begin with. Price a top end machine out with falcon, voodoo or alienware and you are looking at 6000 or more. I imagine that it will not be until the middle of next year before we see pcs running crysis full blast at 1920 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600. Many 2-3k machines still have trouble getting oblivion to run at these resolutions at 60 fps with everything turned up turned up full blast while outside.

It would seem you have different expectations for a console game than you do a PC game, none the less my $1200 rig runs the beta at 1680x1050 with everything at high (very high is disabled) and no AA since it does nothing in the beta. Now kid, run along and play at 1280x720 with 0xAA on your $400 console.

It looks more like you went and picked the most overpriced hardware without any regard for what the actual requirements for the game will be. It's definitely not 1200 dollars for 4 gigs of ram, possibly for the most over clocked, hot off the assembly line Ram, but I can find 2 gigs (2 x 1Gig) for about $80-$120. Also Monitors do not usually factor in to PC price, since most people already have them. Any requirements seen so far only call for dual core processors not quad cores, so lower that $1000 by about half. You may get more Frames per second with the SLI configuration , but it's still just a performance enhancer, not a necessity. Factor all that in and I think you will come to a more manageable price.

Rooted crysis supports 8 cores and i picked some of the fastest ram you can buy. When crysis comes out all the mags will bench it with top of the line machines that use components similar to what i listed and i promise you they will not be running the game at 60 fps at 1920 x 1200.

The PC has Counter Strike. Yes, it released on the original Xbox, but it was pretty dimmed down. I play CS:Source all the time.

That and consoles lack a good Half-life...which will come in Orange Box. And a good Unreal Tournament.

by that do you mean completely remove the ability to be able to search for exactly what typr of game you want to play? on pc you can specify what you want by map, amount of players, ping, rank etc etc, thats one of its key strenghs over halo.
PC FPS offers you so much more freedom to improve also, you can have hot keys for example, or the mouse sensitivity can be increased to allow me to jump from BOOM HEADSHOT to BOOM HEADSHOT rather than BOOM HEADSHOT (move stick left wait a bit.... dum dum dum....oh now up a bit...hmmm hmmm hmm...) to BOOM HEADSHOT.
also consoles are 'dumbed' down, your cross is huge allowing you to simply get the player in his giant circle and then your bullets seem to target themselves, now where is the skill in that?

One man's opinion.

As someone who has played many, many shooters on both the PC and consoles, I can say that the PC has certain advantages when it comes to the mouse/keyboard combo and frequent jumps in graphical quality. Many of the best shooters have been PC first, then ported to console (Far Cry, Doom 3, etc).

BUT, I don't see consoles as being "way behind" PCs when it comes to shooters, and consoles have certain advantages, too: Any game for your console will play, regardless of whether it comes out at the beginning or end of its life cycle. PCs seem to need constant upgrades in memory/graphics cards each time a new game comes out.

KILLZONE 2 young grasshoppers.. I know killzone one didnt do so well but killzone 2 looks like its heading in the right direction

Console shooters.... the only ppl that bash the pc for their shooters are 1) they only played consoles 2) they have a mediocre machine

Its like the honda enthusiasts who thinks bmw's suck, but they have not tested both beasts on the track.

Im sorry but the ppl who bash the PC always bring up the excuse IT IS TOO EXPENSIVE TO BUY VIDEO CARD. WTF does that have to do wit the game itself.

PC is the king of shooting and the console that doesnt work is just trying to catch up or trying to be more like a PC which it is practically with only an outdated every thing.

i have grown to like console FPS games. To me, now, PC shooters just involve moving a pointer with a mouse, there's not much skill. Pinpoint accuracy is so easy even a grandmother could make a few kills. You need more skills to use a controller, imho.

I grew up playing shooters on PC. Anyone can point a mouse to something on the screen.
