Call of Duty 4 - The game to rival Halo 3 this autumn

So many games get labelled with being Halo beaters on the Xbox, but Call of Duty 4 is looking to up the ante on FPS games barely weeks after Halo 3 arrived. The magazine says "Physically there is no way it could be any smoother, updating twice as rapidly as key games such as Halo 3 and Project Gotham Racing 4." The issue includes a preview and developer interview, with Infinity Ward explaining "we’ve had as much time with the hardware as anybody". The full Call of Duty preview is in the issue, along with Mass Effect interview, Timeshift preview, Kane & Lynch, FIFA 08, Eternal Sonata, SKATE and loads more. It's the biggest issue yet, so broadband only and all you need is Adobe Reader 8 on Windows. Click here to download issue 11.

Finally a halo killer. And so soon as well!

Bolts6068d ago

My guess is CoD 4 will not have a crappy 640p native res.

joydestroy6068d ago

i dunno if it's a "halo killer" but it's definitely going to be a strong game this holiday season.

ANYONE into FPS games needs to pick this one up!

The game is simply amazing ,top notch graphics with realistic character animations that will put shame onto many other current fps out there

no, scratch that....i played the CoD4 beta....its f**kin awesome...i see this as a serious threat to halo, the helicopters where enemies drop down on u in battle...upgrading ranks and weaponry, awesome...add that to the fact that the game runs 60FPS with no slowdown...sounds like an instant win...hopefully they wont throw in a half-assed campaign

Ever since the first Call of Duty on the PC this has been my favourite wargame. The Russian levels are straight out of enemy at the gates. It will make a change moving to more modern times but it looks like a must buy to me :o)

TimeShift - FPS Game Standing the Test of Time

TimeShift had a fairly muted launch in 2007, and while it doesn't rewrite the FPS rulebook it does offer an enjoyable campaign even now.

Never heard of this game until someone mentioned it here last year. Played it and it basically represents most games from the PS3/Xbox360 era—good graphics, amazing physics, and extremely fun gameplay (time powers rock), but barely any story, weird pacing, and at least one annoying AF level. I finished Prototype last week and the same applies, except Strike Teams. Fuck Strike Teams.

MW 2019 is five years old at this point and on previous gen hardware, but it is still the best looking Call of Duty game to date.

MW was an excellent videogame. They messed up Spec Ops big time, but aside from this it was a huge step in the right direction initially. Most notably, at launch it seemed to come from a very cohesive creative vision that was felt across gameplay, to story to art style/visual direction. It was also very notably written by prominent ex-Naughty Dog guys that quit almost immediately before release.

That COMPLETELY dissolved through post-launch content and the full pivot to a "cross-mode" narrative that completely obliterated the cohesion in overall story direction. Warzone then "became" the new face of Call of Duty and the franchise completely removed itself from anything remotely creatively "good". It is a pure money machine, so I kinda get why they're doing it....but I personally completely lost interest.

I would love to see Infinity Ward move off CoD and get to make their own product with full control. They clearly have some massive talent in their ranks but it's perverted by Activision's corporate interests.
