Call of Duty 4 - The game to rival Halo 3 this autumn

So many games get labelled with being Halo beaters on the Xbox, but Call of Duty 4 is looking to up the ante on FPS games barely weeks after Halo 3 arrived. The magazine says "Physically there is no way it could be any smoother, updating twice as rapidly as key games such as Halo 3 and Project Gotham Racing 4." The issue includes a preview and developer interview, with Infinity Ward explaining "we’ve had as much time with the hardware as anybody". The full Call of Duty preview is in the issue, along with Mass Effect interview, Timeshift preview, Kane & Lynch, FIFA 08, Eternal Sonata, SKATE and loads more. no, scratch that....i played the CoD4 beta....its f**kin awesome...i see this as a serious threat to halo, the helicopters where enemies drop down on u in battle...upgrading ranks and weaponry, awesome...add that to the fact that the game runs 60FPS with no slowdown...sounds like an instant win...hopefully they wont throw in a half-assed campaign

Ever since the first Call of Duty on the PC this has been my favourite wargame. The Russian levels are straight out of enemy at the gates. It will make a change moving to more modern times but it looks like a must buy to me :o)

Thing about all the COD games so far is they mostly provide visuals in spades,but lack any real gameplay.If you stripped away the,no doubt glorious graphics, you could probably fit the gameplay mechanics into
10 lines of BASIC CODE!Like, you must go this way, you can't do that and you can ride that tank, but we will actually drive it for you('on rails' set peices..horrendous).Multiplaye r is usually much better, but nothing to match Halo as yet.we'll see.

I have to agree with this. I have Halo 3 and played in the beta and COD had most of my play time. It is really run and the perks were just a great idea.

Created by Infinity Ward is a buy for me. They are right. They've had the most time with the 360 hardware. They've also had ... wait, they didn't have that much time with PS3 hardware. Yet, they are getting optimal performance out of it. Take that EA!!

I'd pick COD4 any day. I'm so disappointed in Halo 3.
Yesterday I played Gears of War online. I didn't think I would do that after I got Halo 3, but it's just more fun and intensive.

COD 4 is no halo killer... as matter of fact is a halo helper.. since it will help sell more xbox 360. How will COD 4 undo all the copies Halo 3 sold? I am a fan of COD since the first one... not rational to compare Halo with COD... storyline, theme, artstyle, etc... COD 4 will not even have vehicles. COD 4 you can't jump or use vechicles and yourself and human cannons or use laters... which one of these things bring a unique experience... Halo 3 does not have "Call for helicopter support", real weapons, or the urban combat that COD 4 brings to the table. Which one is better? I can't deside, but one thing for sure is that I will be playing both. I also have Gears... and I can't pick between COD4 and gears... or Halo 3 and Gears... Gears is more tactical... heck... I can't even deside between COD 3 and COD 4... what if I feel like playing in a WW2 theme and use tanks, older rifles, etc.... Halo 3 killer? nahhh.... COD 4 is just a great a addition to my big library of AAA shooters... Maybe Sony fanboys feel the need of having to pick 1 game and bash Halo 3 since they can't get it even if they want to... but us xbox 360 gamers... we can own them all. I don't see myself just playing COD 4 constantly... maybe you do. but we don't... so stop trying to make this seem as if COD 4 will hurt Halo 3... because it will not. there is a reason why is being release months after halo 3... companies don't get anything (specially in the same platform) from making people pick.

by not raising the bar on anything with the new Halo 3...they played it save, too save in my opinion...i bet you anything that the next Halo wont sell near as well as this one did because believe it or not there is a ton of gamers disappointed with Halo 3 or Halo 2 HD as some people call it...

COD 4 on the other hand is raising the bar on almost every aspect for FPS...it wont sell as well as Halo because it has a more mature audience that Halo and it doesnt even have half the hype that Halo has thanks to the millions wasted in advertising.

But believe when i say that COD 4 will be the Best FPS of 2007...

Its Halo 2 in two-thirds-HD. They had 3 years to work on the game there is no excuse to run in 640p and to have it letter boxed like a PSP game in Co-op mode.

You guys (will not use Sony fanboys on you because you may not be) have an opinion about Halo 3 and a mindset about it. Maybe of you hated the game before it was even released... simply because you knew it was going to boost xbox 360 sales.. and many of you hate the xbox 360 simply because of the company behind it. I'm saying you are one of those people (chanto23 or crck) you probably had lots of expectations for this game and werent met. Your opinion should be respected.

Now, I never played Halo 1 and Halo 2 not more than 10 minutes... which is probably why I find the game fun to play and one of the most unique and extensive online experience. though graphics are great (gears look great and COD 4).... but I still play snes games like Metroid.... hehe emulators. I believe that as long as the graphics do not suck so bad that it interfere with the game play... I think it's all good. graphics is something that get's old very quickly... all the details you may pay attention to for the first 10 minutes of gameplay are irrelevant after. When I am playing gears... do you actually think I stop and watch the character's facial details? I did at first... but now I'm into getting things done.. I don't see the graphics the same way.

COD4 will look as old as COD 2 looks today in 1-2 years. But I love COD 2... I still own it.

To many of you graphics is very important.. I am a graphic whore myself. But to make it the most important thing to not let it go and always bring it up... and categorize the game as bad because of a few pixels it's just does not sound right.

How many games on the PS3 and the xbox 360 kick @$$ in terms of graphics but sucks b@lls in terms of game play.

halo 3 is no Kill Zone 2, Gears, COD 4 in terms of graphics... but none of these game is Halo 3 in terms of the features that Halo 3 comes with.. such as the ability of recording your game session... this can revolutionalize the utube of gaming... who knows many all games will come with a similar feature and halo 3 will the game that started it. just like many FPS that took some ideas from halo 1 and 2.

You don't like Halo 3 and you think is not your type because the graphics are makes a good game or not in your eyes..
you would pick between Halo 3 and Lair because of the graphics and care less about gameplay or any other issues lair may have.. you don't care that Halo 3 is the most play game for any console which hundreds of thousands if not millions of people that do not share your opinion about it... well... opinion respected.. but try to respect others opinion about halo 3 because it kick @$$.

People always complaining about lag, graphics and dodgy controls. Then the enevitable "SOCOM KILLER" would be coming, yet they all fell flat on their faces.

I have to say I haven't played a better online game on a sony console, socom is just so complete. So I would guess Halo is to the xbox what socom is and no game will manage to kill it.

COD Series is still going strong. As for SOCOM, they have one more shot with me with Confrontation. I hope they do what the say they're going to do and go back to their roots. A lot of people are saying this is the make or break.

This game will get 100% attention from me next month. I like battling humans that only 2-3' verticals rather than 10'.

all i know is that every game that has tried has failed (i'm looking at you killzone!). I love the COD series but IMO non of them are on the same level as halo. COD 4 does look amazing, but we'll see if it's just a game you play on line for a couple of days/weeks/months and then get bored of it. people are still playing halo 2, what does that tell you? and i'm sure 3 years from now people will still be playing halo 3. that's why halo is halo. it has lasting appeal.

Tis game is amazing, the gameplay easily matches the next gen gr, halo sucked balls, king kong balls, it was utter garbage, `i will never trust game reviewers or magazines again, it was obvious they all got paid off, 10/10 greatest game ever made my arse, greates game ever made due for the bargin bin.

Single player was boring, co-op was utter pants, grx were low res and jaggy, ouu let jump and fire at each other and see who wins.. god how lame.

Most of these you haven't even played yet because they're not out yet so I don't know where you're getting your opinions from. Personally from what I have actually played myself, I think that Resistance doesn't stand up to the quality and fun you have whilst playing Halo3

for this game to come out. I can finally start off with the weapon of my choice and not have to run around the map to find it. I can play the game type I want to play instead of waiting for it to be recycled on a map I don't want to play it on. Plus, I don't have to sit around waiting to get matched up with random people. I have the option to just join a room or host it myself and best of all, no more unbalanced weapons or bunny hopping.

^Grenade fest in COD4? I will agree with this, only because of the perk martyphon but Halo3 is nothing but a grenade fest. Everyone is tossing grenades. Grenade to drain shield then shoot or shoot to drain shield then toss grenade. Rinse and Repeat. Heck, Bungie even made so when you die, your grenades a left behind causing a whole section of a map to be filled with grenades lying all around.

I think Bungie concentrated too much on "extra" features and not enough on doing what they should have done... (sadly the list could get long) but... mainly CO-OP and custom games with online people... not just online friends who are mostly too busy doing their own thing then to sit down with you and beat the game on legendary.

Not sure when you played the beta but I know early on people were always using the gernade launcher because you start off with it and it seemed awesome. Later on a lot of people realized it cramped their style and they couldn't be on top of the leaderboards if they used the gernade launcher so more tactical weapons with different scopes were used. I know at the end of the beta, gernades were used a lot less. I don't think many pros would be caught dead using the gernade launcher... it takes too long to reload so when you could be pulling off head shots... you are limited by reload time and the 2 gernades you get.

I'm pretty sure he meant the grenades you can throw.

About 3 days befre the Beta ended, they gave us testers the "Martyrdom" perk. This perk let a grenade drop as soon as the player dies. Not to mention the grenades you are already carrying.

But hey, it was only a "grenadefest" cause everybody used this "new" perk .Just wait till we get the full variety of perks, you ll see, it ll all change again.

This game will stay in the tray 24/7. I have HALO3 and revert to playing COD3 cause I love it so much. I stayed away from ranked due to the long wait to get a game going. Hopefully The ranked matchmaking is better now. COD FTW!

was awesome and after having halo 3 for a week...I am already sick of it. The game hasn't change much and the best weapon in H3 is beat down<WTF>.

November can't come soon enough. At least in COD4, the odds of dying by melee are way less than any other tool of destruction. The multiplayer also rewards the player in a great fashion. In H3 however, you can sit around and play social matches and get your rank up to general in a week.
