Slighty Mad: Racing sim 'quite dry', Shift 2 turns that "on its head"

Need for Speed: Shift 2 developed Slightly Mad is injecting "emotional and social aspects" into the sequel, which take it beyond "being a numbers game".

It includes Autolog, which Criterion made for NFS: Hot Pursuit. Rivals GT5 and Forza both "mathematical simulation of great physics" - Shift 2 'is more'.

physics and numbers are the most important thing, it seems hes trying to gloss over the fact that the physics and number of cars tracks are no where near as good as forza or gt5 so we will add auto log

@hennessey86 - imo making you feel as close as possible to being inside an actual racing car is more important than calculating numbers correctly or having thousands of cars to choose from. If the racing part feels sterile it doesn't matter.

I didn't like the first game that much but Shift 2 looks like it will give both Forza and GT a run for their money when it comes to actually driving the cars. The latest gameplay vids of it are amazing.

but if the cars dont handle right it doesnt matter how much effort they put into that part of the game

Erm, When I race, I dont need emotion or socialism. I want to be focused and putting in the best laps I can. I prefer sims anyway, But when I play an arcade racer I do it with a friend here taking it in turns, my socialism doesnt really need to be intergrated. Arcade racers have always been a friends are round game to me. And for sims you need focus. I thought shift was supposed to be the sim-like one?

Socialism...as in http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

GT5 is all I need for Racing though, I won't be buying another for a few years

I played Shift with wheel, and it is not a bad game. However, there were few flaws that I cant forgive. Input lag and sometimes arcadey physics are worst, and if sequel can do that as it should be, rest of announced features is enough for Unleashed to be great game. And yes, graphics was very good.

I also played SHIFT with a wheel/pedals, and you're right the game is quite good. The driving physics were quite poor to me, it just didn't feel right going round corners at speed.
The new SHIFT looks great, graphics wise and if they can make the driving feel right then it will be a very good game.

GNT Review: Need for Speed Shift 2

GNT: I have to be honest – when I purchased Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed back in March last year, I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the experience. Clunky controls, poor presentation, and generally a myriad of technical issues really left me feeling let down. In fact, I returned the game the very same week. However, now that the game is available for free on Playstation Plus, I figured it can’t hurt to give it a fair shot and a review.

What I like about SHIFT2 is the sound track, which were remastered for the game. No game compares to the sound tracks. Reminds me of the old underground sound tracks.

What I hate about shift is the robotic AI. They will bump you intentionally, you slide, while they get away.

If the AI slide, they will cach you miles away and overtake you like nothing.

Once an AI car overtakes you, catching them is impossable. The only way is to late break.
