GTA4 like you’ve never seen it before

DasReviews writes: "It is well known that GTA4 is one of the worst, if not THE worst, console ports. And although its graphics were quite average at its release, the modding community has managed to literally transform Rockstar’s baby; or to be more precise, Vorontsov Boris ENBseries mod is the one and only mod you’ll ever want to install. Boris did an amazing job and what is even better, is that you can modify ENBseries parameters to your liking."

Theres this false perception that GTA 4 had bad graphics. As far as consoles, it was one of the best this gen. People dont understand the scale of Liberty City.

OpenGL4824d ago

I agree; on both the PS3 and 360, GTA IV actually had very good graphics considering the size of the environment, and some pretty advanced lighting. The PC version looked even better but is considered by most accounts to be a rather sloppy port.

NukaCola4824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

true, but i dont think gta4 is aging as well as other games. i played it about 6 months after the complete edition came out just to mess around and it gave me motion sickness and there was clear fuzzyness, screen tearing, frame rate issues, and camera jerkiness on top of flat texture that just gave me a headache to look at.

plb4824d ago

Are Rockstar still releasing PC games? Been nearly a year since RDR and LA Noire has no PC release date announcement either =\

BlackKnight4824d ago

@NukaCola

Screen-tearing is resolved 100% if you simply turn on Vsync. Frame rate issues are relative to your machine. I have a 5870 and run it at 1080P with everything at max EXCEPT shadows on high, not very high, and the detail and draw distance at 50 and vehicle density at 100. I get 60FPS most the time, when shit blows up and lots of cars around, dips down to 30-40 FPS.

AAACE54824d ago

GTA 4 does have great graphics, especially when you realize how much detail was put into it!

I think people were mainly mad because the gameplay was more realistic and they removed a lot of the extras. Let's face it, San Andreas spoiled us!

Once you got past the learning curve, you realize GTA 4 is fun in a different way than the past games.

Computersaysno4824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

It was sloppy. It barely ran with playable minimum framerates without a kickass quad core at a time where most people had duals, absolutely gobbled video memory at a time where most cards were 512mb. Just to add insult to injury it didn't support anti aliasing.

Crysis actually managed to run better on weaker hardware half the time and although this is a good looking game it aint no Crysis in the visual stakes.

Luckily Pc hardware has moved on and most gamers now have a powerful quad and a GPU with at least 1Gb memory, making this a fine game to be playing with these mods.

HappyGaming4824d ago

GTA 5 please.........

Is there anyone here that wouldn't want a GTA 5 by next year? Considering they have been listening to what went wrong with GTA 4?

MaxXAttaxX4824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

GTAIV looked ok on consoles. The graphics were definitely not a "10" like some reviews claimed.

Iroquois_Pliskin4824d ago

@nathan

cough cough IGN GAMESPOT cough cough

Iroquois_Pliskin4824d ago

Holy crap this LOOKS GOOD!! I was watching this video without my glasses (accelerated aging sorry) and i was like wtf this is not GTA IV !!!

awi59514824d ago

Its a really sloppy port it run on two graphics cards but when i activate the 3rd card it wiggs out and sets everything to low settings and wont let me change anything lol.

GT4 graphics were very impressive for the size and scope of the game. Many forget this.

killer88snake4824d ago

y all this sudden love to gta4?

lil Titan4824d ago

needs to be downloadable for the PS3

FinalSpartan4824d ago

wow that mod looks like real life.

Shaman4824d ago

Oh yea...GTA IV and RDR are both prime examples of great graphics for open world game.Very immerse world, much more live like than any other open world game.Nice lighting, great animations and physics and tons of stuff happening at once...

I still remember taking a chopper above LC at night looking at whole city thinking how beautiful it is :)
Can't wait for next GTA to see what R* has in store for us.

killer88snake4824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

ya...m psyched for the next gta too!

killer88snake4824d ago

y all this sudden love for gta4 ?

sourav934823d ago

Well I do agree with you in some aspects. However, if you compare gta 4 with games like RDR or infamous, doesn't look that fancy. Now THIS is GTA 4 like you've never seen before:

ardivt4824d ago

lets hope that the next generation of home consoles will be able to deliver such graphics!

Pixel_Enemy4824d ago

I didn't think it looked all that amazing. It was only High resolution textures. There were still poly shaped objects in the environment.

BlackKnight4824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

Are you watching the same video?

This mod is amazing. This guy IMPLEMENTED:

HDR
SSAO
Indirect lighting/Global Illuminations (Crysis 2 and BF3 have showed this off)
Soft particles
Cloud systems
A slew of changes to the lighting and reflection settings.

Here is a video of the beta for the mod that works with the latest GTA4 1.7 update.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Check his site and look at the tech screenshots he did. It's amazing.

http://enbdev.com/index_en....

NOTE: he just moved to new servers and is missing some pics, of course when I try to show people what is going on, haha.

Shaman4824d ago

Are you crazy?Look at all those reflections man...they are sick.Lighting looks damn nice and there is even motion blur, per object also.Anyway...What do you expect NY to look like anyway?Poly shaped?Thats how buildings look like in real life, like 3d boxes, not like plants or balls :S

bobrea4824d ago

I couldn't even make it through the article preview. I thought GTA4 on the consoles had awesome graphics at the time. Liberty City is huge. Open Gl said it best.

Ducky4824d ago

Looks good, but the visuals are a bit unevenly spread. Some things (such as cars) are much more detailed than the environment.

Kinda looses its cohesive appearance.

Rubberlegs4824d ago

GTA4 on the consoles was never a port. The PC version was a port job and had lots of problems when it first came out. There was more they could do with the engine and that shows with the mods on the PC. RDR uses the same engine and it looks even better.

john24824d ago (Edited 4824d ago )

You misread it:

"It is well known that GTA4's (PC version) is one of the worst, if not THE worst, console ports." .

So basically the article says that the PC version is one of the worst console ports we've ever seen. In which most of you agree with :P

multipayer4824d ago

The problem with GTA4 is that it absolutely required a quad core and was built around the console structure, which has a waaay better processor than graphics card. However, it still looked like crap and ran at 20 fps on consoles. The pc version was always better, better looking than most pc games released now...

Just a few grumpy people that play Crysis maxed out with their core2duo and monsterous graphics card making a huge stink. The engine just wasnt built that way.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies7d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken7d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing697d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker7d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing697d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt7d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken7d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

Ex-Rockstar Dev Finally Explains Why Small Planes Randomly Crashed in GTA San Andreas

Former Rockstar Games Technical Director Obbe Vermeij has finally revealed why some planes would randomly crash in GTA: San Andreas.

Profchaos27d ago

This fly by feature was on the cutting room floor due to the random plane crashes and it's one of those things I'm so thankful made it into the final version as these random fly by and crashes make the world seem more alive on the extremely limited PS2 hardware you needed everything you could possibly get in a open world to convey that feeling.

And accross hundreds of hours of gameplay I probably died around 3 times as a result of these fly by failures but I loved every time it happened

isarai27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

It made the world feel more human, and honestly kinda insane that even today with all these open world games, almost no one can capture that like R* even when compared to their ps2 games

Skuletor25d ago

Lol, I remember those. I vaguely remember dying from one crashing into my car once too.

Video Game Leaks Suck For Everyone, Gamers Included

Ahmed from eXputer writes "Video game leaks have become a major cause of concern for Triple-A studios, as they're becoming increasingly malicious and dangerous."
