Activision has lower expectations for this year's Call of Duty

Despite huge interest in the franchise, Activision doesn't expect this year's Call of Duty game to be as successful as Call of Duty: Black Ops, the publisher's Chief Financial Officer Thomas Tippl has revealed.

who would have thought Activision would wise up so fast.Dropped GH and TC and now this.

MidnytRain4836d ago

I think these guys are just trying to sound modest. Activision said the exact same thing about Black Ops, now look what happened.

HSx94836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

The reason I believe Activision's COD is going to die is because:
1. 4 hour long campaigns.
2. Same multiplayer gameplay.
3. Buggiest releases ever
4. They have too much control over players (they can ban you, reset your rank, restrict you from certain things)
5. Lack of support on other platforms otehr than Xbox 360.
6. Better games which developers actually put time and effort to, are coming out soon.
7. Bobby Kotick

Istanbull4836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

Eventually, people will get tired of the same sh!tty game year after year.

CoD is the last big moneymaker for Activision.

Cheeseknight284836d ago

I feel like Battlefield 3 may succeed where Medal of Honor failed. I can only hope this, at least.

THE TRUTH4836d ago

Any gamer that has been paying attention should know that DICE is coming to take the crown this year with battlefield 3. That along with Gears 3, Uncharted 3, and Mass Effect 3 means that CoD will suffer some this year.

BattleAxe4836d ago

The only way I'll buy this game is if they continue the storyline from MW2 where it left off with Captain Price and Soap, I want to know what happens, but if its anything other then that, then I'll be spending all my time on Resistance 3 and Uncharted 3.

nskrishna24835d ago

Isn't those the only reasons people are still buying cod? (except #7)

RyuCloudStrife4835d ago (Edited 4835d ago )

Who cares what Activision says???

bumnut4836d ago

I have lower expectations too :)

Hopefully most of you guys do too and will not rush out and buy it.

TheGameFoxJTV4836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

They say they won't now. But after the first trailer of shouting, guns, explosions, and some random rap song. They will all be online pre-ordering. Just like with MW2 and BO.

Moral: CoD fans are stupid and will never learn. Activision knows this.

Don't believe me? Scroll down and look at all the people who will still buy CoD games. Knowing that they have sucked in the past.

xAlmostPro4836d ago

Wow.. they say this yet they're still releasing it this year..

take a year out and make it BETTER, common sense

Thatguy-3104836d ago

COD is dying out I mean it did sale a lot but the majority of ppl preffer IW when it comes to COD. Plus I believe that they will be switching their focus to bungies new game which I believe will be some things similar to COD

BX814836d ago

I disagree. I think with Tre/IW the past 2 COD games have been buggy as hell. So people prefer a new dev. and maybe some time off from the series to get it right.

KiLLUMiNATi_894836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

They milking cod too much now that's why. Plus it's the same game every year nothing new. They should release a new Cod every 2-3 so players can get there Money worth. Stop charging $15 for dumb over price map packs that should either be cheaper or come with game from day 1.

Also take extra time to make it less buggy and make the damn game equal for ps3 n xbox. Another thing is time for a new engine Now it's 2011. All I know that this year I'm skipping cod why killzone 3 and battlefield 3 which I think it's a better investment.

hiredhelp4836d ago

its because they didnt make much on this game many still not bought it. if they didnt do price hike changed the engine to a better one, paid for servers deadicated. and respected the gamers activision would be much better company. instead its all about the money. was better company when was UK based.

Call_me_Ishmael4836d ago

Did bobby kotick actually get a brain?

i guess thats what he did with our money.

Pandamobile4836d ago

There's far too many awesome games coming out in 2011 for a real gamer to care about COD.

Baka-akaB4836d ago

i agree but there were far better games last year too ...

MeNoRasta4836d ago

@Pandamobile

I like to hear your version of a "real gamer"

Pandamobile4836d ago

Someone who plays more than just COD every year.

RedRedSuitSDF4836d ago

@meNoRasta...

i'm sure a real gamer on this site is someone who only is a Sony fanboy, and only plays games on their PS3.

CrIpPeN4836d ago

I hope not. I play SNES, genesis, NES, PC, PS3.

most of my time I spend my gaming days on PC. Because love the moding community.

MeNoRasta4836d ago

@Pandamobile

lol you seem popular with all those agrees with a silly definition of a real gamer.

A gamer in my eyes is someone who plays games despite what console you play on.

Baka-akaB4836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

Someone who plays more than just COD every year on whatever platform (since someone is desperate enough as usual , to shift the debate on console wars) .

gman_2974836d ago

Midnight, do you really have to start bringing PS3 fanboys into a convo about what a real gamer is? But I only have to ask you one question:

U MAD??

Raendom4836d ago (Edited 4836d ago )

Yes, I got Black Ops last year because there wasn't really much else (felt like waiting for ACB) but this year... there is TOO MUCH to get!

That's without consoles too (tempted to get a 3DS, definitely getting NGP).

Xfanboy4836d ago

yes!!! BF3 wins!! or call of duty will break another record becuz it says call of duty on the box!

Please, can Call of Duty leave awful Netflix-style menus behind

Call of Duty games used to be streamlined experiences, but COD 2024’s UI could be another nightmarish clutter of streaming tabs.

Let's just leave Call Of Duty behind.

BlackCountryBob9d ago

If we’re beating that drum, can we also stop forcing anyone who wants to play only the single player to download Warzone and all updates BEFORE they are then able to do another download from the menu of the single player campaign. I don’t see why I need 150gb of downloads in several ways to play the single player mode only from a bloomin disk which should have that campaign on it already.

DefenderOfDoom29d ago (Edited 9d ago )

The UI is confusing to me because I have not purchased a Call of Duty iin like 8 years .Only bought CoD MW3 because 3 of my friends I have known since to 70s are playing zombies . But I am used it now .

smolinsk9d ago

The UI is the least of the franchise many problems these days. But yes the UI is also terrible.

Players claim Fortnite ruined Call of Duty by letting in more corporate greed

Do you remember what gaming was like before Fortnite entered the gaming space? One of the biggest arguments was about loot boxes. Now we have conversations about crossovers, battle passes, and community outreach.

Idk. Loot boxes did disappear and battle passes and in game purchases are all cosmetic. We get free weapons and maps post launch, any gameplay affecting content. I could care less about all the cosmetics.
I absolutely hated the days where weapons were locked behind a less than 1% chance lootbox pull where it'd take 5+ hours to have enough tokens to do a single pull and lazy remastered/remake maps cost you $15 each wave or $50 for the season pass that you didn't know what you'd get and these maps were only available to those that bought it so you get a smaller pool of players match with.

Tacoboto20d ago

The "good ole days" are actually what drove me away from COD and Halo 3/Reach. Halo 4 becoming a COD-like drove me away from that only a week or so after it launched and I beat its campaign.

It sucked way back then, going a month or two without playing online-shooter-of-the-moment, and then needing to buy a $15 map pack to play with the majority of the population or your favorite playlist. The "community" rejecting Spartan Points in MCC killed that game's support, too. No revenue = no support, plain and simple.

Cacabunga19d ago

That headline could easily be something Spencer could have said 😅 I had to check if it was really an opinion piece

KyRo19d ago

As times gone on, the COD battle pass has got ALOT worse so they can push people to buy the more premium battle pass which itself is a huge rip off and nearly half the price of the base game.

The cosmetics can be fine but they've taken it to far to the point of no return. Why make a military themed game then have rabbits, dinosaurs, cats, rats & z list rappers as skins? You wouldn't add a Lamborghini to a fantasy RPG to replace a horse and you would never see Mario have limb dismemberment because they know what they are. COD is having identity crisis but kids and streamer but then all

franwex20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Call of duty can simply not copy the bad aspects of Fortnite? Or is that too out of this world? Like COD, a realistic shooter-just HAD to have Nicki Minaj running around? Or super heroes?

Inverno20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Exactly! Trends don't all need to be followed. Plus where Fortnite got somewhat better with it's monetization, Acti got worse. Or at least Fortnite has lended itself more to the wacky stuff, and has put more effort and quality into that stuff.

jjb198120d ago

I prefer the battle passes with free maps than the $50 season pass that divided the community. I definitely feel that Fortnite had some influence on CoD having loot boxes with Blackout being introduced in 2018 with Black Ops 4.

PRIMORDUS20d ago (Edited 20d ago )

Actually Fortnite bullshit ruined Unreal Tournament. Epic are sellouts and I will never have that shitty store on my PC, fuck them and that shit bag Tim Sweeney. At least the community keeps the games alive, I still play UT2004.

StoneTitan19d ago

I mean cant really blame them for supporting the game that made them the most money and the most people player...ever?

Psychonaut8520d ago

Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance.

Ra303019d ago

100% correct! The makers of Call of Duty ran out of ideas long, long ago so they take ideas from other games like Ghost Recon, Fortnite and any other FPS game hat had success hell CoD remasters maps that they've remastered several times already then charge you again for it. Call of Duty is simply a cut, copy and paste and then put the $70 price on it every year. Activision and now Microsoft has been essentially remastering Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare every year since it was released in 2007 its to the point it's worse than the sports game like the Madden, NBA and others yearly sports franchises.
@Psychonaut85 is spot on "Call of Duty ruined Call of Duty. They needed no outside assistance"!
