Final Fantasy XV (15): A Glimpse of the Future

GR - "Final Fantasy XV: There have been a lot of rumors flying around regarding this title. Especially since the announcement that Final Fantasy XV would return the series to the traditional single-player RPG gameplay from the MMORPG format of Final Fantasy XIV, for better or for worse."

Hopefully it's a return of the franchise to better days. FF13 was rough.

Valay4864d ago

Don't forget Final Fantasy XIV...

Chris3994864d ago

Even Square. I'll give it a go with the 30 days free subscription if/ when it launches on PS3 though. If they reinvent the mechanics enough, it might not suck. The visuals and story are sumptuous, it's the GAMEPLAY that's atrocious.

deafwing4864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

ahh SE has a lot of work to win back rpg fans ... and this time, not just in the East but in the West to.

As for XIII, it had solid gameplay (battle system was great but it could have been deeper). The story seemed like a pre-cursor of things to come and yes, there weren't enough people and towns but you can blame that on the plot (abandoned planet and all).

So perhaps the story writers are really to blame? Never the less, I hope they continue the path of action type ABS and make it deeper, and for God Sake get someone else to write the story.

DevilsJoker4864d ago

Make a FF9 style game with beautifull colours and HD graphics. Just do THAT, that's all it needs!

PsERSONA4864d ago

Did I just read that you think the gameplay is "atrocious" after you typed that you will give it a go on the PS3 release?

Is it safe to assume you haven't played XIV before?

Kee4864d ago

@deafwing you might be on to something there, the story was written so that it took place somewhere with no people. The whole game actually kinda felt monotonous because of this. It was just this path they put you on with no pit stops along the way where you can interact with the locals, do side missions and trigger important events.
I think that's the key thing XIII was missing.

Chris3994864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

Yes, you read that correctly. But if you've been following XIV at all, you'd know that the new development team recently issued a player questionnaire that mentioned "radical changes" to the game and whether or not that would be welcomed. (I said "yes")

I have played the game, and it is lovely to look at but a chore to play. They can fix the "chore" part (the mechanics, which I already mentioned in my first post) and keep the assets, I'm sure. Considering that they said that the PS3 version wouldn't be released until all the new changes/ fixes had been implemented, reason would dictate it wise to wait for that version.

Capiche?

nickjkl4864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

"with no people:

wait what

there were people you just didnt have to go up to each one and press x to hear them say something random

you just walk by them as they ramble on about their problems

its upto you to stop and listen

does anyone else find it weird that people want mini games in their game

yo dawg i heard you like games so i put a mini game in your game so you can game while you game

deafwing4864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

don't confuse the sun with the moon

we don't mean that there were no people, just lack there of from previous titles in the series and the game itself, and the path you take (@Kee), is somewhat ... lonely.

rockleex4864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

@nick:

That's like saying you don't need to go to the club in order to dance. You can just dance at home by yourself.

But the whole point of the club is so you can dance with tons of strangers, and you never know what kind of experience you might find.

Anyways, here's why I feel FFXIII failed so hard gameplay-wise:

Heres what to do, but lost odyssey, enjoy the real ff 13. Seriously though, i loved 7-12 excluding 11, even like 13 but it lacked in places. Either make it turn based w controll of everybody or a ff12 type system which i also loved. 13 had a great story but needed stuff to break up the mononotony, minigames, exploration, sidequests with npcs, towns, hidden summons exc. Lost odyssey had all this and the great long cgi scenes so theres no reason square cant do it. I believe vs 13 will rock and i have faith that they can make 15 awesome as well.

RedDead4864d ago

May aswell call versus FF15

AndrewRyan4864d ago

I agree. Final Fantasy versus XIII is the stupidest title I have ever heard. With new characters and a new setting. "Oh but it's in the same galaxy!!" Shut the fuck up, looks nothing like XIII, why call it Versus XIII?

visualb4863d ago

who knows. Might have some tie in, we need to wait for the game for that.

Eamon4863d ago

Well, every FF game has a different Mythos and in every FF game its mythos is very deep. So, save money and time creating a whole new mythos and just use the same mythos as FF13?

rufioho4864d ago

dang, 15 FF? That's a lot. Im bored with em

cemelc4864d ago

Why? the only thing the have in common is the name. Everything else is different with each iteration of the game.

StillGray4864d ago

It had better be superior to FF13, though Versus may well be that... assuming it ever comes out.

Godmars2904864d ago

If Square maintains to its preference of CG over gameplay for the franchise, simplifying it for everyone, there likely wont be a FFXV. No one - sensible - will buy the $60 CG movie.

Eamon4864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

I honestly don't give a shit about casuals getting turned off. S-E need to go back to their roots.

Menu-orientated ATB gameplay with no auto-battle, paradigm and stagger bullshit.

Otherwise, you're through S-E.

Godmars2904864d ago (Edited 4864d ago )

They started disliking - accepted negative public opinion of it at least - ATB since FFX. That's why they went with a MMO style for XII.

What they need to do is go back and look at Chrono Trigger. The damn CG trailer for FFXIV for that matter when the magic user charged the archer's attack with fire. Make a combat system that allows players to figure out and create combos like that on their own and design monster accordingly.

Of course at this point they'll never figure that out even though we have.

Zuriel4864d ago

Completely agree with this, the old FFs were all about you having control over the battle and being able to tailor your strategy depending on what the enemy/boss did. With all the new stuff you have to conform to their system and worse off just mash x for the stupid auto-battle thing. It's like controlling an 'interactive' movie.

Hope XV goes in a better direction...

maniacmayhem4864d ago

Anyone play Rogue Galaxy for PS2? To me that had one of the best fighting systems in an RPG.

I wish that fighting system was in the next FF.

Glad that I absolutely can't stand subscription services.

Petebloodyonion16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

I don't recall Sony forcing you to subscribe like nobody forced you to go to Blockbuster to rent games instead of buying them.

SonyStyled16d ago

Pay-per-view was almost cheaper than the cost of gas and rental fee from Blockbuster. Blockbuster doesn’t exist today. Are you being sarcastic?

Final Fantasy XV Review – A Royal Road Trip

Gary Green said: With my fondness for (most) Final Fantasy games and my side goal of finishing off games in my collection with loose ends, a return to Final Fantasy XV seemed inevitable. It also serves as my third Final Fantasy platinum trophy after VII and VIII, a reasonable substitute since Final Fantasy IX is nigh on impossible to master.

Final Fantasy 15 director reveals why he left Square Enix, and announces he's working on 2 new JRPGs

Final Fantasy 15's director has revealed why he left Square Enix back in 2018.

Hajime Tabata famously resigned from Square Enix two years after Final Fantasy 15 shipped in 2016. In a special livestream at the time, Tabata announced his decision to resign from the company, cancelling three of four new story-focused DLC episodes for Final Fantasy 15 in the process.

FF15 is like FF13 its subjective people either like it or hate it.

raWfodog148d ago

I liked it. I haven’t played the royale edition yet but I’ll get around to it one day.

gold_drake148d ago

no no, 15 wasnt trash.

15 had a tremendous difficult development.

FinalFantasyFanatic146d ago

I really believe 13 was better put together and more complete than 15 ever was.

EternalTitan147d ago

Found the pathetic troll.
How is your jobless life going?
Dot worry, you will never get a job or a girlfriend haha!

Hofstaderman148d ago

Man inherited a train wreck and was expected to release this game in under two years after it spent a better part of a decade in development hell. At one point there was even plans to make FFXIII Versus a musical. He did what he could.

TheColbertinator148d ago

I didn't care much for XV and I always wanted the original vision of Versus XIII but I think the dev team did what they could to salvage the project

Inverno147d ago

And yet people still blame him for the game turning out the way it did, rather than SE for the horrible mismanagement of 13 and Namura for being overly ambitious.

Dwarrior148d ago

Whatever the behind-the-scenes went on over the many years, at the end of the day it was a radical change in direction that I could not go along with. Also why I never bought 16.

gold_drake148d ago

this is also why Sakaguchi (spelling) left.
