Wanna See What Donkey Kong Looks Like In 1080p?

The good people at the Dolphin emulating forum are at it again! Here, we can see Donkey Kong Returns running at 1920x1080 with AA. Suffice to say, it looks tremendous -- but if you're at all curious, the shots speak for themselves. Check out all the screens after the jump.

Not really, Wii hardly has 3-4 games a year worth playing. Dolphin is awesome to play those games. Now unless Nintendo can promise 3rd party support and a good number of exclusives then it might be worth considering the platform, until then id rather buy nintendo games but use Dolphin to play them. Besides that saves up precious space too. Who needs multiple devices all across the living room.

NecrumSlavery4928d ago

Wow this game is so cool. The WiiHD is a great idea, obviously. But all I really want is truly solid online. This should have an online co-op, like New Super Mario should of.

Yi-Long4928d ago

What kind a PC do you need to run Wii games through Dolphin smoothly!?

And how do you solve the problem of not having any Wii-remote for the PC?

Thecraft19894928d ago

Yi-Long I would say good duel core 2gb ram ATI 4xxx series or an comparable NIvdia card

Blue tooth adapter will allow you use the WII mote Its like playing a Wii but with nice looking graphics

Yi-Long4928d ago

... thanks :)

I now have an 2-3 year old, 4 core PC with 4GB of RAM and an GT8800 Nvidia card, so I should look into upgrading that sometime soon.

There are a couple of games I would LOVE to play that are on the Wii, but the non-HD and the lack of HDMI and proper 3rd party support, has put me off.

My girlfriend has one, so at times I can play when I'm visiting her, but it would obviously be great to just have a powerfull PC hooked up to the plasma which runs Dolphin and other emulators flawlessly in gorgeous HD :)

mrcash4928d ago

the same can be said about the ps3 or xbox for that matter, The only ps exclusive I enjoyed this year was Heavy Rain, gow 3 disappointed me and they didnt release anything else that I was hoping for like socom.
On xbox I played ME2,AW,SCC,and Fable3.

N4Great4928d ago (Edited 4928d ago )

Who can disagree with facts ?

wiihd+++++ already exist, it's called ps3.

by the way, that kind of screenshots are just proof to the donkey pc trollboyz that resolution =/= graphic quality.

Yep been using the Dolphin Emulator for a while now. Well actually it has been gathering virtual dust as the Wii seriously lacks games.

Metroid Other M looks great in HD with 4xAA. There really needs to be a Wii HD and with a more focus on Core games that incorporate the Wii mote as Nintendo does have some innovative developers.

Emulation is a nice perk when you got a PC with some muscle.

Substance1014928d ago (Edited 4928d ago )

Its the ultimate gaming machine mate. I been playing around with PCSX2 and Dolphin lately both run silky smooth.

Having a midrange PC these days means having :

A multiplatform game monster (90% games out today are multiplat)

Tons of PC games from the Past

Built in, HD PS1 & 2, Wii along with all the other emulations.

Would be silly for anyone today not to own a gaming PC. Overall PC is the platform with the largest games library today, be it : RTS, FPS, MMO, Hack and slash, Racing, Platforming, PC has it all.

I don't want a Wii HD, bring on a whole new console creation that will make PS3/360 follow them once again.

matey4928d ago

It looks just as good at 480p Ninty/Myamoto said an upscaller sounds good i hope they bring a HDMI upscaller 4 wii or even add it in the wii sku 4 576p/720p/1080p an official HDMI upscaller would work devs could still make games at 480p no problem i mean so many games would look exact like 360

Thecraft19894928d ago (Edited 4928d ago )

This Is not just a up-scaling. you can already buy HDMi up scaling for the wii but nothing compared to playing it in dolphin.

Thecraft19894928d ago

What can't you understand ?

ct034927d ago

This was in response to matey who made no sense.

Seferoth754928d ago

Thecraft, I have to lol at your desperate attempts..Seriously you act you alone are some how going to affect the sales of these games if you let everyone know they can sorta be played in HD.

No upscaling 480p does not give you true 1080p.

Funniest part is you trolls always seem to forget that 99% of HD games are not even 1080p. SO a Wii and a PC can do something even the mighty PS3 cannot.

Oh but I am sure when enough people point that out to you suddenly 480p wont be HD any more.

poopface14928d ago (Edited 4928d ago )

360 up-scales every game to 1080P already, and most games are around native 720P.

Not to mention the 360 is just way more powerful, the wii cant get close to the textures and effects of 360/ps3.

I would look only a little better with up scaling, just like a native 720P game upscaled to 1080P on 360 only looks a little better, its almost the same since the native resolution doesnt change.

Wii games will look alot better on an emulator tho, vs just being upscaled.

Flashwave_UK4928d ago

lol noob no 360 game exeeds 720p on ps3 does

poopface14928d ago (Edited 4928d ago )

but most games on both ps3 and 360 are native 720p(or close), like I said. Upscaling to 1080p doesnt make that much of a difference.

And the 360 does upscale every game to 1080p, like I said. Nowhere did I say that upscaling was 1080p native.

Playing on a 1080P tv and the 360 will upscale to 1080p from what ever the native resolution is.

If you dont know that most retail games on both the PS3 and 360 are almost always around 720p native resolution, then you are the noob my friend.

This isnt about Ps3 vs 360, this is about native resolution vs upscaling.

Seferoth754928d ago

Sure I would like to see DKC in 1080p. Along with MGS. WKS, Killzone, GT5, and tons of other games. But it isnt going to happen. 480p upscaled is not HD. SD models for the game upscaled do not suddenly become HD Models.

The ignorance of this assumption is amusing and has to be coming from a Sony fanboy. Only they lack the knowledge to see how what they are saying isnt possible.

It is like saying running GT4 from the PS2 on a PC suddenly gives you 1080p GT.

King-Leonidas4928d ago

duuude what do fanboys have to do with this... leve them alone or you'll just start another pointless internet war

Eamon4928d ago

Is Seferoth's first paragraph a quote from someone? I don't see it anywhere.

But yeah, I don't get what fanboys have got to do with this.

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

FinalFantasyFanatic21d ago

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.
