IGN UK: Fallout New Vegas Review

Fallout: New Vegas is the game that many wanted Fallout 3 to be. It's harder, more ruthless, better written and more morally ambiguous. It's a game we’ve been wanting to play for more than a decade, a real modern re-imagining of the Fallout series, complete with that deliciously black humour. But it's also more of the same, aesthetically and technically identical to Fallout 3, wonky facial animation and all. The ever-so-slightly ageing technology only marginally detracts from what is otherwise an expansive, fulfilling and ambitious game, unmatched in scope and maturity. If Obsidian were to make another Fallout game, we certainly wouldn't say no.

It is both first and third person. I usually like third person better in most games, but in Fallout's case first person is the best choice.

The character animations in Fallout are pretty fugly, so I got tired of it fairly quick. Also, you tend to explore pretty cramped environments.

It also switches to third person when VATS has been activated (VATS is essentially a mode where you freeze time and select the targets you wish to hit with whatever weapon you have equipped. It kind of melds turn based rpg elements into traditional FPS, but you don't have to use it.)

I got this baby already and started playing it. I am not sure if it is a bug or something but Easy Pete's basically dead and he isn't supposed to be dead cuz well, I need his dynamite. I think I will have to start all over again and NO! I did NOT spoil anything. It's just an optional quest that you do in Goodsprings :)

And yes, it is excellent. I have already stolen enough stuff to go to prison for the rest of my life, laid waste to a vendor who had a lot of stuff I couldn't afford (shotty to the face) and have seen some creepy things in the hills that I am avoiding like the plague.

As much as it is killing me, I HAVE NOT gone to New Vegas yet. I am hitting the surrounding areas and trying to get as many caps as I can.

The graphics are the same BUT there is a lot of neon now. COLOR! Stores have neon signs hanging on them, work benches have crisp blue vices on them and vegas is awash in color hues even from a distance. I can't take 5 steps without running into some stony old fart or some crazy creature, I am hoarding ammo and guns and am having a blast. I went to a midnight release and took today off from work. IT WAS WORTH IT!

This game is going to suck 200 hours outta my life.

I'm a guy who never picked up FO3. To the people who have both, would you say I should try FO3 first or just go straight to New Vegas?

You don't have to play FO3 first, but why not since I am sure you can get it at a good price these days, plus FO3 is excellent. Just be ready to invest a lot of hours, because the game is long and very addictive. Plus you have to play through it twice once good and once evil, to get the most out of it. Enjoy.

You should defenitely go for FO3 not because it is connected to New Vegas or anything because it is NOT but the fact that you can get it real cheap (go for GOTY edition if you can) and because it is a great game. The graphics suck! I mean compare it to ME3, Killzone, GOW, Uncharted and you'll simply hate the graphics and then there are glitches and some extremely bizzare stuff like slide walks and weird jumps but then again, you don't play Fallout for all that. You play it because there is tons and I mean TONS to do in that game and you'll get easily addicted to it.

I was going to pass on it, but I love F1 and 2, and thought F3 was pretty boring.

If you look at Fallout 3 without comparing it to Fallout 1 or 2, you have to say it's a great game.

I can understand the disappointment in hardcore fans but for the masses it was a huge hit. I know a ton of people who never played Fallout 1 or 2 and loved 3.

New Vegas looks awesome and I can't wait to go home and play it.

this review reflects my personal feelings about F:NV more closely than any of the other reviews I've read. If you love Fallout 1,2, and 3 then you will love this.

For the past few months whenever I thought of this game I thought 'Please be as good as Fallout 3, pleeeease be as good as Fallout 3' (all while not thinking really it would be so trying not to get my hopes up).

After reading that it's exactly like Fallout 3 but, "It's harder, more ruthless, better written and more morally ambiguous." That pretty much everything I hadn't dared hope for. Man, I'm so excited for this game, first time I've been excited for a a pre 2011 game in a long time.

IT seems to me like all the small or unknown sites are giving this game bad reviews. The bigger sites like gamepro, gameinformer and ign are giving good scores. I'll trust them over "attack of the fanboy".

It don't talk about almost anything. It's a good game with hardcore system (impementet in F3 by fans (lol)) some good quests (there is no destcripcion of any) and that is all...

I got the 360 version and so far its froze on me once and I have put about 5 hours init. I hope that's not a sign but its fairly decent and enjoyable. Its a little more aggressive then fallout 3 in spots and the graphics don't look any better. If you like the last one then you will like Vegas. I live in Vegas and its really cool to see the actual towns and citys that exist in real life in the game. I did not like them making fun of the primm rollercoaster which in real life is the desperado as its a great coaster. I hit cedar point and kings island on vacation this summer and they have some fantastic roller coasters. All in all enjoying the game. I also picked up vanquish but have not tried it yet.

Man, I am so tired now after playing Fallout NV for almost 11 hours straight.

The PC version of this game crashed me to the desktop twice.So it is for sure hell less bugged then FO3.

it is a bit soon for me to consider this game better or worst then FO3 but so far itis as good and addicting as the previous Fallout game .
