The Wii, Xbox, GC and PSP versions of Madden 08 – combined - accounted for fewer than 10% of the 1.6 million units sold while 360 version sold them most and 4 times the PS3 version.

I thought VGChartz was pretty accurate at the US numbers. I looked at NexGenWars and those numbers are way messed up. They say the Wii is about a million behind the Xbox (which isnt true).

I guess we have to wait for the real number to come out to see for sure.

I understand that the times have really changed for gamers, but all over this site & others, all I see is talk of sales numbers. Consoles sold, games sold.....does anyone just play the games anymore? Playing video games was better overall, when it was considered a kiddie or geeky thing to do. Gaming is almost too commercial now. Concerns over who sells more than who...what developer signs exclusive rights to who.....this is almost worse than the music industry is now. (primarily hip-hop) Things should be simple again. Developers should go back to creating good games simply out of the love for the craft. Us folks should just continue to buy what we like & not pray for the competition to fail.

These are indeed exciting times for all true gamers. If you don't care about who created what systems, and care about actual gaming, then you really do need to own both the 360 and the PS3.

It is also great that the two systems are looking as good as they are, since they adds some well needed (and really unpresidented) competition on the console market. Prices go down, and no producer can survive on hype alone, the actual product needs to deliver.

Madden on 360 sold 889,072 units!! The only game this year that can match seems to be Halo 3. I never understoon why people love Madden so much. 1.6 million units total! More than Halo 3 pre-orders. Halo 3 is a great and award-winning FPS while Madden is just another yearly EA cash cow update.

If you are taking VG charts as your official source of Sales Stats...You really have no clue.

The xbox 360 has sold over 6 million consoles in the US....compared to the Ps3's 1.3 million.

The xbox 360 has sold over 4.5 million in Europe...compared to the Ps3's 1.3 million.

The xbox 360 has sold 500k in Japan...compared to the ps3's 1.5 million.

Totaling over 11 million for the xbox 360 and a tad over 4 million for the Ps3.

So while in Antartica the ps3 sells 1000 more units than the xbox 360 for the week....That does very little for the Ps3's sluggish overall sales. You can name 10 small countries that the ps3 sells under 1000 units more than the xbox 360....but those totals aren't helping the ps3 catch up. See thats the point. When will the Ps3 catch up? At the rate they are going....1000 here....1000 there....it won't be till after the next console war has started...LOL.....You see....when the ps3 launched back in November...the xbox 360 was at 6 million sales to the ps3's 0.

The xbox 360 has since then sold just about 6 more million. While the Ps3 in its Launch period till now has only sold 4 million. How do you explain that? Thats not how the ps3 will catch up...they have to drastically sell more than the 360....and with Halo 3, Bio Shock, Madden 08, Mass Effect, and GTA 4....There is no way that can happen...Especially with the worldwide price drops....and extended warranty with hardware improvements....HDMI standard in all units...and memory saving included in all units...via hard drive or 256 memory card.....Sony is fighting an uphill battle my friend. And the sad things the games aren't helping them. So far there hasn't been any games showing the quality of what you would expect paying 600 dollars for a console. I too do believe PS3 will eventually surpass X360 because of broad library and brand recognition but i doubt it will be the end of this year. The PS3 and 360 might tie in 2007 eventually. The 360 recovered pretty nicely, and it surprisingly had not a real effect on PS3 sales. Both increased about 13% (360) and 15% (PS3, while the PS3 was the smaller absolute value).
Anyhow, the price will play a role. Sony might be OK with the number so far. They can keep up and might wait and see what the stronger fall line up might do compared to the blockbuster Halo3. If it can keep up (and I believe nobody seriously expects the PS3 doing better the the 360/Halo bundle), it will probably waiting for a price cut. Which means it will possible come later then many would hope for. I still think the sweetspot for the PS3 will be $399 (and then lower). If Sony really want's to "beat" the 360, the price needs to go down. Or they leave it at a long time goal of $399 (or with inflation at $499), but brush up a new PS2+ for $99 (PS2, double clock, 720p and HDMI). I am wondering what will happen, if later the PS2 will brake away on the low end, and there is no way the PS3 can cover that segment - they'll loose it completely to Wii - which most people think (incl. me), it might break down as soon as HD takes off.

I was afraid that people weren't paying attention to the reviews. The 360 version really is the best...it still has some significant issues based off some videos I've seen, but it definitely has the best performance out of all the other versions.

This is exactly what most experts expected, the 360 to outsell PS3 with in NA with all EA's Xbox publicity lately. Although I believe a lot of people including myself thought Microsoft would move more systems with Madden and Bioshock.

But really, the conclusion I'm coming to, the majority of people these games appeal to(along with Halo3 and Mass Effect)already own a 360 for these types of games, or in Halo's case, that game me being one of the people buying a 360 at launch mostly for this(among other great titles).

360 is failing to attract more consumers to their console with these great new titles, hopefully their sales improve more this holiday, I personally expected inflated level of sales for at least the next couple months.

I know a couple of people who are waiting for Halo 3 to buy Xbox 360. In fact, they ONLY want to play Halo, and they are not even real gamers. I personally don't like the Halo series, so I don't understand the appeal. My guess is that there are a lot of people like my friends out there, who are not real gamers but would still buy Xbox 360 for Halo 3.

Then there are others who are strictly Bioware fans, and they are waiting for Mass Effect before they will put down their money for Xbox 360.

The point here is PS1 and PS2 dominated the market. PS3 won't for this generation. For PS3 to dominate this generation, it should have been selling 3 to 4 times better than PS2... like Wii.

I think regardless of what fanboys say, Wii is here to stay and dominate for this generation. My guess is that Xbox 360 and PS3 will end up splitting the remaining market shares -- probably near to 50/50. The downside to that 50/50 split is that we'll be hearing and reading from all these fanboys arguing and fighting for the rest of this generation.

These numbers could be indicative on how GTA4 will sell 360s and PS3s. PS3 #s grew higher than 360 #s at 15% to 13%. And Madden was clearly worser on PS3. And you also have to account that the 360 just had price drop and the hdmi port. Lets say GTA4 was identical, forget that PS3 is lead platform and 360 has the downloable content, so I can conclude that GTA4 will sell more PS3s than it will sell more 360s. Also you have to consider that PS3's price will get closer to 360 at the launch of GTA4. At launch the difference was $200, now $150, by then $100. Then you have to put blu-ray into that factor since it will become more mainstream.

It won't be USA only. We'll see the same in Europe. One month (July, PS3 sold well because of the pricedrop), the 6 months before the 360 outsold the PS3, april/may/june even double the number of units world wide.

The other 5 months of 2007, the 360 will outsell the PS3 again.

Well, simple. Content and games. As I said before, from what I've seen, maybe only Uncharted will get AAA status, over 90% average reviewscore. Heavenly Sword about an 8 average, Ratchet&Clank between 7.5 and 8, Warhawk around 6 to 7, as Lair also will end up.

And after yesterday I am pretty, pretty sure about it. Been on the Leipzig Games Convention. I must say, the Sony stand looked impressive. They did spend much money on the look of it. But then we played the games... My God. Ratchet & Clank, much doesn't looks sharp, pixels could be counted in many parts, the many railed and fixed gameplay wasn't fun as it should be. I would recommend a PS2 for about 100 Dollars/Euro to kids with the last gen R&C. Because this one was just a last gen version with some new paint on it. From a distance it seems good, but we sat up close and played... meh

Haze. OMG Haze. Been playing it so much on the Ubisoft stand. They had so much problems with the game running, no AA, and much strange suddenly upcoming blur, it almost looked if the programmer drunk to much when making the game, in the distance they graphics looked like waterwaves. Heavenly Sword I played before in the demo and too bad the Sony stand closed for playing after 16.00 so I couldn't get to Uncharted.

Played Naruto for 360, the demolevel of COD4, seen the single player Halo 3, Bioshock and all those games... The 360 just gets the better content.

Im not interested in buying a Blu-Ray Player. I have a HD-DVD Player, so PS3 Fans Give me a good reason to go out there and buy me a PS3 for the price of $500-$600. Because theres a console out there for $250-$450 that looks equal or better than the PS3. Theres nothing in the PS3 to convince me to buy 1(Metal Gear? I dont care!, Final Fantasy RPGs I dont care either!), oh and i have a good job so i can afford 1 but im not convinced to give sony my money just because theres some people who have 1 im not a monkey - Monkey see Monkey do remember.

1. Well by this time next year your HD-DVD will prob. be dead and if u wanna continue watch High-Def Movies Blu-Ray is the way.

If the PS3 is redundant because you have other things to cover its extras, and you don't want the games, don't buy it.

That's the nice thing about choices. You can send a message to Sony by not buying the PS3, telling them its far too expensive for what you need. So I would say, DON'T buy a PS3. Buy the console(s) that have the games and features you want.

Some people will always buy magic beans. PS3 gamers are buying into a lie, a promise and a hope that the most powerful machine ever created which still hands out messed up ports with stuff missing from them will magically make a game that they can play for years like HALO 2. Except ps3 has the worst games and controller that is pretty weak and stupid compared to good old rumble and begging for games to be released sooner. Some ps3 gamers are actually content with waiting until 2008, 2009 and 2010. And way beyond that. I truly beleive there are smarter consumers in the world but there is a sucker born every minute and sony has everyone of them. lol. I can just see your bubbles going away and your disagrees adding up right now. First of all PS3 already has a unique line-up of games and there is so much more to come. And by the holiday season PS3 will have so many new titles and exclusives PS3 owners will have a buffet of different and unique exclusive games to sink their teeth into. So you can just shut your mouth real nice. 360 has a nice library of games and thats a good thing, people can say what they want but MS did raise the bar with several of their titles. I for one thank them for doing so because it forced Sony to step it up and they are doing so. MS and Nintendo put the flame under Sony's but and now Sony is hot like fire, and they are about to outsell everything as soon as its exclusive drop. its a great time to be a gamer with such a massive next-gen race, whos side am I on, the side that makes the kind of games that I like and right now every system has something to offer me! Although I prefer RPG's and fighters to FPS's, I do own every next gen system and I will have al the AAA games. I just want to share that I bought my son a 360 PRO system with the HDMI out put and it has the 2nd heat sink and the new quiter DVD drive, U can see the 2nd heat sink if U take a flash light and look thru the vent holes oppsite the HD. Its on the left hand side if front of the DVD drive.

Just like last week (if I'm not mixing the weeks in my head) where the PS3 was outsold in US for the 360 about 11k. Then I said to some fanboy that 11k was not enough, cause 360 made it's numbers in US (about 70%), but Sony make only about 35-40% of its numbers on US, so PS3 would outsell 360 worldwide...

So, I'll just say again the exact same thing. PS3 will outsold 360 on worldwide numbers. This isn't enough (make the math if you wish)... Then I'll have tons of disagrees... And, then, I'll come back and say "I told you so"...

I just got a new 40" Samsung LCD 1080P HDTV and 60GB PS3 this weekend. My wifey bought them for me. Now I have both a 360 and a PS3. Now I can have the complete high definition videogame experience. If a multiplatform game is better on 1 console vs the other then I just choose which console to buy it for. Now I have access to all the "exclusives" I want. I know in the past I have argued about 1 console vs the other. But they are both good consoles. Since I didnt overpay for a PS3 (My wife did), I wont miss out on any games. Brand loyalty wont reward any of us gamers. Multi-Console gaming is the way to go.
