IGN: Netflix on PS3 Impressions

After quite a long wait, Netflix has finally made it past the U.S. border and into Canada – that's right people not paying attention to movie-watching conditions in the rest of the world, Canada didn't have Netflix before today. Crazy.

Interestingly enough, this initial launch only includes the Netflix streaming service, with the DVDs-by-mail service being promised sometime in the near future.

and was somewhat surprised to see that the netflix interface was exactly the same as the ps3. Then again, I think it was MS that made their own for netflix on the 360.

Also, why is this netflix on the ps3 when it could just be netflix impressions in general considering this is new to canada?

It shouldnt matter the interface because it is the service being tried out.

MS makes most of their own apps for Xbox Live.

I like the fact that you stay signed into the XMB. Means you can get messages/requests while watching TV.

Yes, under Video you will see the Netflix icon. You must download it but it takes 3 seconds.

when NF was first offered on the 360 I did the trial and quickly realized IV was a bunch of old and crusty movies already out on DVD or Cable re-runs.... that killed NF for me right there.. We have cable + DVR.. dont need NF

Using it now but I haven't really found a lot of stuff there.. I'm sure more will be available over time but I don't know if I want to pay 8$ for this just yet.

I absolutely love Netflix on my PS3. I've never even had them ship me a DVD. I always use the streaming.

dude, you can stream and get new movies (even in blue-ray) man. Put netflix to good use. I stream all on xlive and rent new movie on blue-ray and play it on PS3.

"If you want this early in the US, try this. I did this and it worked like a charm. Let me know if you try it and it works.

Go to Settings>Network Settings>Internet Connection Settings>Custom>Choose how ever you connect, then keep going til you get to the Proxy Server page.

Select Use and put in the following: for Address put 216.48.80.12 for Port Number put 3127.

If it doesn't show up under Video, try logging into a Canadian PSN account, I just made one. It should work.

Once you downloaded it, you can use it on your US PSN or any PSN.

If you get the 400 error like I did when dling, just take off the proxy and you should still be able to download it no problem."

EDIT:

I can confirm that you can download the update, but I get a message thanking me for my interest, but it's not available in my location. I haven't tried the proxy yet, but if it works I wonder if my netflix will be gimped since Canadian Netflix sucks..
