Resolution's Steve K Peacock writes: It's a difficult task, a Multiverse crossover. You’ve got to balance the need for a central protagonist with the necessity of making his alternate versions looks just as strong. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is one of the rare breed that seems to do this rather well, crafting a story that originates in the mainstream universe while roping in three other entire universes without any significant subordination on their part.
TW: “With the recent release of the sequel film, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, I’ve been revisiting the astounding world of the Spider-Verse, enjoying both the prequel and the new sequel film in all their glory; and it’s led me to ask one question — why the hell isn’t there a Spider-Verse game?”
I too would like a whole game with the entire world looking like the animated movie. It could be awesome
Sometimes, companies feel they have to add a little star power to their games. So, they call in actual stars. Take a look at ten times where pulling in celebrities was a great idea.
Before Insomniac, there was Beenox; the studio reminisces on Shattered Dimensions, Edge of Time, and more
"I only wish we had five years on any one of the Spider-Man games we made!"
Well, you don't have to work for Activision ya know. But yeah, they did a fair job considering the limited resources and well....Activision.
TASM2 was like the last superhero movie that had a movie tie-in game accompanying it
Overall, solid scores. Its still LO W on myh Gamefly...:(
I hadn't bought a game since Kane and Lynch 2 and hadn't bought a game that didn't make me want to kill myself for a long time so I picked this up, it's actually really good fun. Basically no story to speak of but the webslinging is perfect and the combat is far deeper than videos suggest, it's not just button mashing.
Anyone on the fence about this should pick it up. it's no GOTY winner but you'll definitely enjoy it. It's also worth checking out the comics of Spiderman noir and 2099 to help familiarise yourself with the character. Like I said, the story of the game is barely there but the comics are a good read and will make you want to play as the characters you're reading.
