Bungie: 'Nothing's holding us back now'

Bungie has told CVG that it is in a better position than ever now it's moved fully into cross-platform development - and that its new project can even out-do the firm's classic Halo games.

I'm excited to see what they will do now that they are done with Halo. I'm still eagerly anticipating Halo Reach, but I think by E3 2011, we will get a glimpse of the new game. I think ps3 owners will finally realize what a great developer Bungie is especially in terms of community.

Except for Square-Enix on FF XIV. They seem to be working to overcome an issue with insufficient memory on the PS3. It's delayed the PS3 version until March.

I hope that they can bring out another great IP for all platforms. Maybe they already have tons of ideas written down everytime they finish making a Halo game. First game I want from them is not an FPS and I think they will also want that, though I wouldn't mind another FPS from them if it is revolutionary.

It will be very interesting to see what they come up with and how well it works. I mean HALO is HUGE and there are many people that will just buy it because it's HALO and for no other reason. I admit i dont know much about bungie other than the HALO series so i look forward to seeing what they can come up with, no matter what hardware it is on.

See I have to disagree with you there. People buy Halo because it has MADE a name for it's self by being at the top of it's game. If it sucked and people bought it for just it's name only, then there wouldn’t be 100's of thousands of people playing daily years after release. If people bought it for the name only wouldn't ODST and Halo Wars have done bigger numbers? I know it's fun for the fanboy to make excuses for its success, but the factual numbers speak louder than fanboy's opinions.
I do agree with you on the fact I can't wait to see something new from then regardless of the system. Also I wasn't directly calling you a fanboy, I was just stating it is a popular fanyboy excuse.

Yeah, surely if the Infinity Ward debacle had happened earlier, while Bungie was looking around for a publisher, they may have taken a different view on the 'freedom' Activision affords them.

Or maybe the pay cheque was high enough that it was worth the top guys at Bungie putting the company at the mercy of Kotick and co.

They don't work for them at all. Bungie managed to strike a VERY RARE deal in the gaming industry, Activision agreed to publish the game while letting Bungie keep ALL RIGHTS to the IP. So Activision really is doing nothing but publishing it, nothing more nothing less.

You make a good point, but we don't know the fine print of that agreement.

Activision could still have creative input, or be able to dictate the genre of game (I doubt we'll be seeing an RTS from Bungie for example!!), or time frame for release and so on.

I'm sure the Infinity Ward guys thought they were on to a good thing when they signed with Activision!

Yeah the PS3 is a piece of shit. What else would you call a console with a 54.2% failure rate, according to Game Informer(or a 42% according to Destrutoid). Thankfully they make up for it by charging to go online, where I can talk to people who say witty things like "you're a fag!", or tossing the "n" word around. Also who takes 5 years to make a game where you wave a flashlight around at the same bad guys for about 4 to 5 hours. Oh and if you want to upgrade your hard drive to, lets say 250 gb, it's gonna cost you 139.99! The nerve of Sony, I hope there spending that money on 1st part development. Instead of going out and buying rites to DLC or something.

Will it prove that it was Microsoft marketing dollars that pushed Halo to such stratospheric heights; or can Bungie really produce the goods again??

Funny, fanboys crucified Ninja Theory for basically the same thing when they bacame able to develop for Xbox, now they're celebrating Bungie for saying the same thing because now they are free to develop for PS3. How old are we?

If the game is multiplatform that statment is untrue. The 360 would holding back the visuals of the next game. I guess what they meant is that nothing is holding them back from maximizing profits now that they will be on both consoles.

I'm pretty sure Bungie are referring to Microsoft here...it's common knowledge that Halo 1 was only supposed to be one game, but after it's success MS made Bungie create additional Halo games. That's fair enough. You're not going to let the opportunity to make a lot of money go by, are you? I think Bungie was in a situation where they wanted to make other games but the fans kept demanding more. Rightly so. But now they have free rein to create a new game from scratch, hence they aren't being held back from doing so.

Since they'll be doing a multiplat game, the Xbox 360 shouldn't hold them back at all. If anything, the 360 version may be better than the PS3's in some sense, since they've been producing games for the 360 for much longer and will have more expertise.

As fans we should be happy; 343 industries are going to continue with Halo for the 360 users and Halo fans, and Bungie are gonna start something new for everyone to enjoy on all platforms.

I think what Bungie means is that they're don't have a specific contract to work with one IP in XX years. Now they can make many more IP's as long as they have a contract with Activision.
